    Really enjoying your trip, very beautiful!

    I thru-hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) last September. The TRT joins the PCT at Meiss Meadow. It's nice to see some familiar scenery! I hate to tell you, but there are more rocks that are the size you dislike after you leave Echo Lake. But when you get to the top (and drop down to kiss the glorious dirt), the Desolation Wilderness makes it totally worth it! It is so beautiful.

    Ha, ha. You sir, are hiking my trails. Ten years ago my wife and I got married down below Frog Lake (Hope Valley) and then the entourage hiked to Frog Lake for a picnic reception. My advice.......Fritos

      Cool... congrats. I have been eating Fritos since they contain a lot of oil.

    Hey Dan. Catching up on your journey. Told Will you were around 170 & concerned. He said the same as I thought, "isn't that about what he was in Australia?" I think you are now a lean, green, walking machine and it will stabilize. I am jealous.

    • @CaptainDansWanderings
      @CaptainDansWanderings  9 лет назад

      Carl! It's great to hear from ya. Hope you're doing well. I don't have access to my ncognit email in case you've written me there. I don't recall what I weighed in Australia... might have been 170-ish.

    got to love the false peaks/ and uh, yeah that was quite the butchering... it's mock-el-um-knee// hehhehe /// that's where all my water comes from.. another great video, very interesting terrain.. you can catch trout, but you have to release them, and use hooks that wont tear them up. It's because they dont stock that area very well.

      potatothorn I found this, which may or may not help much: news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1755&dat=19790722&id=g0k1AAAAIBAJ&sjid=qGcEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6878,2815740&hl=en

    An overall mileage update every once in awhile would be appreciated. The last I remember, you passed 1000 miles but that was SEVERAL videos back. I am enjoying your hike!

      I think you can track Capt. Dan here: trackleaders.com/pcti.php?name=Capt_Dan. Sometimes it doesn't update for a while though.

      James Ince-Scott I follow that link, but I'm also interested in trail miles as well.

    • @DashScott
      @DashScott 9 лет назад

      OK. Yeah, the tracking app is a bit lacking in features. I guess I'm just amazed we can follow along as well as we are.

    Another possibility for increasing calories would be to have a friend send you a few supplemental food boxes at your next 10 resupply points. Or you could just load up on more food when you come across a local grocery store.

    I wouldn't worry about the lost weight, as long as your energy level is OK. You are just getting back to the weight you are supposed to be at. Just imaging trying to carry that 47 lbs. of fat in your pack. As a society, we tend to accept weights that are much higher than is healthy, or normal. You are carrying your pack and hiking 20-mile days, at altitude, in mountainous terrain. That sounds like you are getting all the calories you need.
    Trust me: I am a retired sergeant major and master fitness trainer. Keep up the great work. Your weight will stabilize where it ought to be.

    Love your videos! I would add powdered cheese and a dollop of olive oil to those dinners.

  • @skippylippy547
    @skippylippy547 9 лет назад +1

    Holy cow. You started at 220 lbs?
    I thought I was seeing things as you dropped all that weight.
    We all watched you getting very lean, strong, and fast.
    I could tell that the cadence of your footsteps got a lot faster. :)

    Hey Capt Dan, On the fishing. what that sign meant was you can fish using artificial lures (including flies) but not live bait like worms. You can fish, but you can't retain any trout you catch....catch and release only for the specified period of time.

  • @PatKithiraj
    @PatKithiraj 9 лет назад +1

    lol, snowmobile sign out in the middle of nowhere. Awesome colorful flowers and singing too. You looked like you got a lot of energy and stronger. I think you will be fine, a lot of thru hikers lose up to 40lbs. Like you said, Just have to eat more calories(A 100-gram serving of Nutella has 541 calories). Get a smoothie drink when in town, 600-700 calories. You know all this stuff already, don't mean to tell you. lol. Thanks for the awesome views again.

    we where told to add olive oil to all your meals, it is tasteless and will help add the pounds and tuna fish.?

    Up until this video, there was 1 mysterious "dislike" on seemingly all your PCT videos. I guess the "Winamucka" song finally won them over?

    • @CaptainDansWanderings
      @CaptainDansWanderings  3 года назад

      Who knows? Maybe my singing caused them to doze off and they forgot to dislike it.

    Peanut butter has a good calorie/protein ratio, one tablespoon of peanut butter has 94 calories and 8 grams of fat and 4 grams of protein.

  • @MECowgo

    Add olive oil and protein powder to your meals.

    What is this, cabin number eight? :-)
    If you've ever been to Winnemucca, Nevada, you'll probably stop singing its praises. :-)

      Yep - apparently so. And Johnny Cash has been to at least one of them.

    I second the olive oil suggestion. 248 calories per ounce! (instant potatoes is 110 cal/oz) just add it to all your meals

      +ncognit02 A lot of hikers that I've watched their videos say they add extra virgin olive oil to their meals. that and real butter. than they pignut in town. But I think as you loose weight, your body burns less calories moving your lighter body around. Like someone else wrote, I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you have the strength to do what you're doing. As a diabetic type II, I'd be very happy with what you're doing. If you;re not eating too many sweets, but are eating nabs and crackers with peanut butter, you;rte eating fairly healthy. Wild green vegetables would be nice, but knowing which ones are eatable and having the time to gather them along the trail might slow you down. so again, don;t worry about it.

    capt have you tried gaia gps app I have been using on my hikes and work very good in finding the right trail after you add your route to it. stay strong.

      Have seen Gaia but not tried it. I use two PCT- specific apps currently and they do the job.

    been catching up with your videos and really enjoy them. couple of questions though, which jacket by Columbia are you wearing and who makes your hat?

    • @CaptainDansWanderings
      @CaptainDansWanderings  9 лет назад

      It's a rain jacket with no apparent name. It's waterproof and breathable with Omni - tech as a possible name. It's not considered ultralight. The hat is made by REI and it's a Tilley style hat.

    • @DonP_is_lostagain
      @DonP_is_lostagain 9 лет назад

      Thanks! I have the same jacket, I just wasn't sure it was the same one. I've seen you wearing it whenever it was cold out and I thought 'if that's the same jacket I have, it'll definitely keep you warm with a couple of layers underneath'. Love Columbia products.

    • @CaptainDansWanderings
      @CaptainDansWanderings  9 лет назад

      good2go201 I didn't buy it for the hike. It's a jacket I've always had and liked.
