Massive salutes 👋👏✊to you for using an old metal Skaven model Dana! Old metal models seem to have more character and feel like the detail is more crisp to me. I'm probably totally wrong about that and it makes no difference but you know... it's one of those things where I pribably want locking up because I'm a bit too un hinged and off my rocker. That’s not a Tommyknockers cover, it looks like a piece from Troy Paiva’s insanely cool series Lost America. He was an OG painting with light photographer, and each roll took him hundreds of hours to shoot and develop. His work is incredible.

Im going to be starting AoS this edition, and honestly though im still choosing between skaven and nighthaunt, this color scheme is tempting me. Either way, ill be coming back to one of your painting tutorials. Great stuff as always and good luck with your rats!!

I legit just bought a skaven pack on sale. Gonna start an albino skaven army, and will paint all their warpstones into yellow cheese.
Their lore is that they're not trying to take over the world, but instead they just want all the world's cheese.

This was such a fun paint scheme to watch you develop. I found it enjoyable seeing you go back and forth on colors, wondering what was next. I think you pulled off what you were inspired by and cant wait to see more! Also yes!! Great choice on such an old model, I wasnt even alive when this came out haha. I honestly believe that any persons introduction to a new army should be to start with a really old model. Theres just something about the antiquity of old pewter and finecast models that allows you to appreciate the history of a faction through the editions and it lets you know how far they have come. Especially in this case with Skaven who are about to get brand new models

Yesss, you're finally painting Skaven! I haven't touched them myself in over a decade (like all warhammer), but the little jerks certainly still live rent-free in my heart. Have fun with all their weird machinery, monstery, backstabby! And I can't wait to see how your treatment affects their looks!

Yessss! I love Skaven, but have always been a 40k girl and resisted pulling the trigger on a Skaven army partially due to the dated models, needless to say that is changing soon 😅

Tommyknockers is worth a read / listen imo. Plenty of King's books kinda fall apart in the third act, but its third act is among his best. The story overall is consistently tense, with ever-escalating stakes.
Also thanks for this tutorial. I started an OSL piece, got as far as the blue and green, and then found your vid. You saved me a lot of head scratching and potential heartbreak! :)

I'm *SO* here for this! I cant wait to see how you paint up those new Skaven when they release! I'm also quite excited about the new Stormcast, but I didn't really take the plunge with Skaven because their kits were too old. Knowing theyre going to get a *massive* update(being one of the first two factions in the new edition) has me *very* excited for these funny lil' rats.

Also used all my light colors like pallid flesh,browns,etc..then went dark..turned out pretty good..
I wonder how this would look if you first base coated the different surfaces in realistic colours and then glaze over the light source with the airbrush?
pack of cheap tea lights and stick the leds under each base :) it looks so cool with the underglow!
if not individual then at least a display case for them with light!

Love Skaven. I have tons of old plastic and metals models. Never plan on playing them but love the models. Also have a huge Stormcast army. Guess I will be in on this set if it doesn't sell out in minutes! That base with the green glow is a great idea!

Gorgeous old model! I think the colour scheme will be more suitable to the larger modern Skaven models.

I really like the end result but ngl for the majority of this video I could not help but think of thermal camera footage with this colour scheme. Doesn't help that when I was little my local museum used thermal camera footage to visualise how some snakes hunt rodents lol

Hi Dana I just commissioned a skaven army.. I used a neon green/yellow on any skaven waist if there's any kind of or weapons to give them that warp stone look!!..lol

i've finally realised what makes dana's "squaaaaaaaarespaaaaaace" so satisfying to my (definitely human, not ratkin) ears: it has the same inflection as the gutter runner from the intro cinematic of _shadow of the horned rat_ saying "waaaaaaarpstoooonnnneeee"!
