No. This just doesn't make sense. If the delegate gave him the extra he should have had the extra. And they could fix this rule after this record and not take it away.
what justifies the disqualification to my eyes is that yiheng has an unfair advantage : the option to keep the fifth OR ask for the sixth. If he didn't have the choice and that the fifth one would've been removed anyways, then it should be counted imo.
i completely agree with the WRC decision to keep the original attempt for solve 5. yes the judge lifted the cover early, but by yiheng continuing with the solve he basically accepted that the incident didn’t affect him. a very similar situation happened to me once in clock (judge lifted cover early, i picked up the clock to inspect and solved it) and i didnt ask for an extra because that would have been completely unfair.
i think this was fair. you can't just ask for the extra after you do the solve. ik this is a wr and very important, but the rule does not change for anyone or anything. there's a chance that he wouldn't have asked for an extra if he got a sub 1 average with the original solve 5.
its on a much different scale but it kinda reminds me of the moment from that chiefs game where they did a crazy TD play and it got rolled back bc of an offsides, and the quarterback was like "man that was a dope play and you guys took it away bc of a silly penalty?"
I agree, ‘cause by doing the solve and then asking for a delegate after the solve, it’s basically just getting two chances to do one solve. This is not the judge’s fault.
@@Aerolite_FPS Maybe. But I think they're pretty evenly matched right now. Its just a matter of who gets it first. Zayn has been practicing for the longest time.
Even though im conflicted i think it will be a good ruling in the long run bc having a world record that people are divided on just wouldn’t hit the same. I feel like he’s already so close to getting it it’s only a matter of time
Yeah there was just too much stuff happening these past couple of weeks for me to cover everything. Wish I could’ve made a video on Tymon’s 3.66 as well
Yeah, that doesn't feel right. Even if the judge actually messed up yiheng's solve badly, there's always a non-zero chance that you can WR on that scramble, so actually playing it out feels unfair. Cracked Bo6 avg though
When Yiheng broke the WR I felt bad for Zayn, but now I feel bad for him 😢 They both are amazing, I'm sure they will break sub1 barrier really really soon

Haha thank you so much man. I’ve seen you specifically on the channel a lot since the very beginning, and I really appreciate your support. Means the world
In my opinion, Yiheng's record should count. The judge broke the WCA regulations and Yiheng probably was nervous during the solve, so he just went into it anyway.
i've had this once where i got a scramble that i had already gotten and i just did it to like see if it was actually the same scramble and i did a different solution, but still got a really good time, but i just told a delegate and i got the right scramble this time, which was 2 seconds slower, making me get wpa, but this is ofc a completely different situation, because here i could have just let it go and be like nice now i have an even better avg, but i still had a pr avg lol
I mean, Yiheng's way to go about it is nothing less id expect from any other kid his age, at 10 I wouldnt have reacted differently, so while its not officially a sub 1 avg, Id still count it unofficially
I think the average being invalidated is the right choice, but Yiheng really is cracked, I mean cubing is really gonna be over like you said in another video.
I think the ruling is fair. If he was a first time competitor or someone who was less experienced, the extra could be argued for since he might not be familiar with the regs. But if I'm not mistaken, something like this has already happened before for him, so he should no the regulations about this. Absolutely should be keep the fifth and not count the extra. WCA does need to do something to minimize incidents like this.
I'm curious about the clip of the "5th" solve though. Jayden Kai Yang's video didn't show that solve (2:05 in your video is his 4th solve, not the 5th, despite your editing could kind of suggest that, but it's actually the 4th one, 0:44 in Jayden's video)
Yeah the actual 5th solve that ended up counting was not recorded. At 1:55 and a couple of other moments I bring it up I just played the 4th one in its place.
I think the removal of the record is the correct thing to do. Think about this, if Yiheng did a 0.79 at the 5th solve, would he have asked for an extra to replace it? Of course not. So why did it ask for the extra? Because he's unhappy with the 1.29 or whatever. So it's clear that his intention was to get another chance because he was not happy with the one he did, which is definitely not "innocent". The ruling is the correct move, and the regulation should be modified to be even more specific if needed.
It was delegate's fault to give him an extra when he didn't have the right to, but regs let it really clear that nobody should ever get unfair advantage so what they is is tecnicly the right thing to do
I think it was fair because Yiheng asked for an extra after seeing that it was a bad time. But I think he's gonna get that sub 1 pretty soon. Maybe Zayn gets it first but Yiheng will get it. Thanks for these really nice videos. I have a good time watching them, especially remembering that a six year old is WAY faster than me lol
Hey Stu, I just uploaded my first ever cubing video and I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on what I could improve on and how good the overall video was?
Besides what I mentioned in my comment under your video, I’d say improvement wise, especially during the intro, you have room to make the music louder and then slowly decrease it. Seems counter intuitive but same thing goes for transitions and sound effects, just gives it more weight and makes it feel more life-like. There’s a good in between tho. But yeah, editing’s good and you’ll improve as you go so I’d say just keep trying to make your scripts as compelling and engaging as possible. Good job tho!
RIP McWorldRecord - This was a really tough call for the WCA. I'm still not sure which side of that fence I'm on but my hat is tipped to those who have to make those tough decisions.
This is kinda similar to another cubing RUclipsr I watch were a runner dropped his cube and broke it but didn’t realize it until a little bit into inspection but instead of stopping and getting a delegate he got a delegate after the solve so the solve was kept and he didn’t get an extra
I think the ruling was fair, but what I see a lot of is people saying Yiheng is at fault, which I disagree with. If he felt like something outside of his control negatively affected his time, of course he would ask for an extra. The real issue is that the delegate decided to give it to him imo.
Personally I think anyone world class (or just breaking records at the continental/national/regional or state level) should just get a delegate or at least an experienced cuber to judge. I understand that it's technically not fair treatment but you don't really see people arguing with a delegate over a 15 sec 3x3 solver for a reason.
I can't even fault the judge for lifting the cover early, Yiheng moves his hands towards the box, almost like he was ready to pick up a cube. Especially since this is solve five, and Yiheng and this judge could have established a routine before every solve. "every time he takes a deep breath, then he's ready, so I'll lift it after his breath" sort of thing.
One thing I will add. Even if Yiheng was trying to "finesse" the system, he's totally entitled to, anyone can push all the rules inside and out of solving to their limits, and at the top level this is expected and even necessaray. If you could get the record by doing something *within* the rules, would you?
What haha, IT'S NOT OUT OF NOWHERE. His 1.08 had potential to tie the WR on 5th solve (and even better on 4th solve). Since start of 2023 his mean of AO5s is better than Zayn's (1.42 vs 1.44)
I think he just solved it without even thinking about it and then after the solve it occurred to him that he could get this extra solve. I don't think there was anything malicious about what he did, but It was definitely justified in being disqualified. Truth is, if he can get the world record average once, then he can certainly get it again.
your quality of videos is so good that i don't believe that you have only 8 k subs love your content and it is a good quality summary for all the cubing news, keep going
I said it once in a previous video and I’ll say it again, I hate cubing in 2024 now. I mean seriously, the chances of getting a wr now is practically impossible for cubers who average above 7 seconds.
Was the ruling fair? Why or why not? ⬇️
No. This just doesn't make sense. If the delegate gave him the extra he should have had the extra. And they could fix this rule after this record and not take it away.
i agree@@bonthecuber
He got it with the extra that he didnt ask for
imo the delegate should have given a provisional extra instead of just an extra
Yes very fair, it’s unfair to do extra after knowing what the 5 solve would be.
what justifies the disqualification to my eyes is that yiheng has an unfair advantage : the option to keep the fifth OR ask for the sixth. If he didn't have the choice and that the fifth one would've been removed anyways, then it should be counted imo.

yup, the 1.07 was held at NYU Winter 2024. His BPA Would've been sub-1, but he choked and got a 1 second solve. He also +2ed a 0.76.

Nice video! I was in the middle of making a video about Yiheng’s average and then I found out it was disqualified so I had to scrap the video😂
The WR has been reinstated.
Unknown why, the WCA hasn't posted an explanation. It just suddenly showed up on Yiheng's wca profile, 0.93 and WR.
It’s a fair ruling. Any top cuber would know to ask for an extra, but Yiheng exploited it.
i actually did not know this, good thing i was subbed to you
This is actually great for Yiheng. 0.93 was just so fast. Now he can get a few extra WRs.
