Cream - Madison Square Garden - 11/2/1968 Complete Concert
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 июл 2024
- Using 4 different audio sources, (many thanks to Sunny Paul and Ryan Hull for the new sources) I have compiled the most complete version of Cream’s November 2, 1968 appearance Madison Square Garden to date. This new version contains each song in its entirety, as most circulating bootlegs contain most songs in varying degrees of completeness. The sound quality has been much improved thanks to the new, cleaner audio sources, and in most cases the sound fluctuations are due to the revolving stage at the center of the arena. Set to as many photos as I could find from this concert, I hope this somewhat recreates what it might have felt like being in the audience that evening. For all the Cream fanatics, enjoy!

Wow. does this ever bring back memories!! I was 19, a huge Clapton fan, and lucky to get tickets. I was up high in the yellow seats, with no Jumbotron in those days, and no binoculars. But I remember the revolving stage and the screaming guitars, and Eric apologizing for having to re-tune so often. What a crowd response. I still have my ticket stub somewhere, it was such an event in my young life. Thank you so much for posting this.
I was there also first thing that hit me ....how much better was on the recorded version than live ,as far as the singing went
Yeah I was there as well, way up in the bleachers... Great band. Great show. So sad to find out years later that it was Baker (who was so talented) who couldnt control himself and screwed up that band... That it was he according to Eric that forced the other two to flee him. Psycho. Too bad. And then he did it again in 2005. Guy just was a slave to his psychopathy.
Right there with you in the nose bleed seats. And it sounded just like this.
That is such a beating thing to hear we plan on bringing the cream back to the forefront people have forgotten the power of the cream, truly my biggest influence
im 19 now and im in love with cream and theyre an inspiration for the music im starting to make now
The greatest band of all time
And the first Super Group as well.
This band is the most unfilmed super band of all time I don't understand it where were the cameras back then with this particular group
Real good point!
Best film is where Bruce has a kind of fur hat and Clapton is playing a painted up Gibson . Im not sure where it was filmed . They do all their main songs . The camera was close enough that you can see Baker's great skills .
@@jameskennedy721 I think you're talking about the rehearsal they did at the Revolution club. Jacks wife was filming it.
@@mitch7222 Never knew that - thanks
My two favs bands cream & the allman bros w/ duane, its a real tragedy they barely have any films
A bass, a guitar and a drum kit and three true blue REAL muscians
Doesn't get any better than CREAM
Jack and Ginger were playing Jazz don't tell Eric
4/2024: Good Day. Truly Bitter-Sweet. Wonderful and Sad. Jack and Ginger are with us no more. One of the Greatest Bands Ever. The best times for music and remarkable musicians. Eric forever.
Thank You for this wonderful piece of music history.
Peace & Best Regards 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Cream forever
The mighty Cream & its legion of fans say OH HELL YEAH !!!!!!! Great job & post !!!!
Super post. How great to have the COMPLETE concert after making due with pieces for all these years. I really think these 3 Masters were playing Jazz-Rock before it had a name.
My favorite band of all time!!!!
@TheCream14 I couldn’t tell lolol
I had never heard these performances before today and I must say: "Holy Sh*t!" Truly inspired playing from all; and Bruce's vocals were titanic, just totally mental. Blows the doors off the '68 Albert Hall gig, imho...!!!
Jacks voice in 25:30 is so amazing such a great singer and bassist one of my absolute heroes
Years later Mr. Clapton distinguished himself on vocals which carried across his modern songs very well, but nothing could ever come remotely close to the haunting voice of Mr. Bruce.
First rock concert at Madison Square Garden in history
It was the first rock concert at the current MSG. The arena was built in 1968. There were actually three Madison Square Gardens before this one.
I was there ..Terry Reid opened the show, Next Buddy Miles Express ..My first real concert as well. Cream was beyond amazing
Wrong Saw Hendrix there 2/68.
Baker's legs were phenomenal. The man played *rudiments*on his bass drums! And keep in mind that he used only basic Ludwig Speed King pedals to accomplish this feat of the feet! (Pun intended. ) Baker's footwork was more complex than most drummers could achieve with their hands!
😮
Baker's ability to play his bass drums so well was probably due, in part, at least, to his having been a competitive cyclist during part of his teenage years.
he got that silver ludwig double bass kit in 1965. he had never played double bass before that. more so, if u listen to live versions of toad from 1966-1967, his double bass playing was not quite at this level. but something must have clicked in 1968 because his technique sky rocketed out of nowhere.
Baker and Keith Moon attended a Count Basie big band concert, in which a drummer named Woodward or Woodyard played two bass drums, which he had to do because Count Basie had spoken with the great Louie Belson, after which he accompanied Duke as he played a tune on a piano. That did it; the Duke was sold! Thereafter, any drummer who played in his band had to use double bass drums. (It's safe to say that Duke didn't expect them to play double bass drums as well as the great Louie Belson. )
So, that marked the beginning of the two bass-drum kits being used in rock 'n roll. Being a "jazzer," Ginger quickly developed his astonishing playing on a double bass drum kit because he was a "jazzer" with great coordination and fast legs. Moon never mastered this setup, in my opinion.
Sittin on Top sounds great, one of their best performances
What a solo in Sitting on top of the planet
I was there great show...find memories they were great
MIKE this is excellent! My great pleasure to have known JACK BRUCE & worked as GINGER's agent when he lived in L.A. I saw the L.A. . shows october 1968 , now many moons ago. Thanks for this epic download!
That’s so cool! Very nice to meet you and really glad you like the new edit!
And when is your book coming out?
UNDER FILMED AND UNDER RECORDED, ITS MINDBOGGLING!
Once again Mike - the Creamster Community is in your debt!! :¬)
I was there & this brings it all back.
❤ my top band !
OMG!!! Would I love to bring this concert back just once...before I die !! Absolutely great ....
Wow …. Clapton was just so good back then 😮 🎸 🔥
they all were it was a competition they pushed each other to greatness they were never as good as this time in their lives
He was better in the days he was smacked.
Brings back good memories ! This was my first concert 14 years old !
Remember going down from our seats to take some photos with my friend Artie .
And the crazy revolving stage !
Also my 1st concert - 14 years old. Didn't think to take any pictures. Wish I had.
my first in NYC too!
age 14
This is amazing: also my first concert, age 12--a pretty good start. I later saw Clapton in Newcastle England in '77, and ended up at the hotel reception afterwards, drinking beer with Patty Harrison (Layla) and Yvonne Elliman. Clapton was drinking hard at the bar with Ronnie Lane, who had opened; I went to shake his hand and tell him I'd seen him in '68, but he was far gone by then.
Well what ever happened to Artie ?
Good God. No mics or monitors! The mighty CREAM. Thank you sooooo much for this!!
I saw Cream a few weeks before this concert in Detroit in Oct 1968. My tickets cost $6.00 and I was in the 6th row right in front of Eric Clapton who played so loud I could not even ear Jack Bruce playing bass. I could just feel a low rumble of the bass, A night I will never forget

Man i missed this upgrade. This is now fave Cream boot. What an A+ performance
Excellent tone from the bass, and Jack also has the best time of the three.. marvelous

I’m so glad this night was like a runaway train!!
The Cream alway rises to the top. #GOAT
Thank you for this, Mike ! I was a senior in high school when I was watching a NY Rangers game on WOR-9. In between periods or during a commercial break, I hear the play by play announcer saying "...and tickets for The Cream Farewell Concert at MSG are...sold out", before I even had time to get out of my chair for a pen & paper to jot down any info. I was bummed. Didn't miss Blind Faith the next summer...or the reunion in Oct 2005 !

thanx, big time ,Mike. can't believe only 23,000 folks have seen this. CREAM lives.
Cream fans know a good video when we see one. 64,000 views as at Nov, 2021.
Thank you for this compilation. It's a labor of love and greatly appreciated. A towering performance by one of the greatest bands of all time. All three of them are great, but for me the standout is Jack's singing, which is superb.
Thank you so much for your amazing efforts. Unbelievable result. I'm sitting on top of the world right now.
awesome cream✌️👍‼️
Thanks for taking the time to find the complete sources and share. Most noticeable of past versions that circulated, Sunshine Of Your Love was not from the start of the song.
great recording for the atmosphere!
Great stuff! Turned 15 night of this show. If I remember correctly, Cream did not take the stage until around 11:30pm. Terry Reid then the Buddy Miles Express opened.
That crazee revolving stage indeed. Thanks for posting this.
Yep -- you remember how the crowd cut into poor Buddy, shouting for cream.... real loud! Buddy's band had to leave the stage.
Thanks. Never heard this show before...and what great photos too.🎶👌🎵
i forgot to thank you for all the wonderful photographs !
Thank you so much, Mike 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
CREAM 4 EVER
I was there
a THOUSAND thanks for this! sound quality an an order of magnitude better than the old bootleg - An awesome epic performance, Toad and Spoonful alone worth the price of admission. - I hope you are able to do some more Cream remixes, such as the April 1968 Boston performance and the Brandeis show. - again, thank you for all your work and dedication on this gift
Felix Pappalardi receives his platinum award and we hear the cowbell kicking off I'm So Glad...
So nice to compare ,claptons leads, bakers polyrythyms...jacks vocal inflections....to what was released, and overdubbed!..
Awesome job creating this video. 👏 Thanks!
I was at SIU Carbondale, IL in 68 and Cream was there. A broken drum stick flew out and we got it. Got it Signed but it has been lost over the years. We had no idea what we had just heard but it was nuts.
Cream is my favorite power trio from when I first. heard sunshine of your love back in high school to now and to see these photos is Great a big thank you
"Jack Bruce on the harmonica" !!!
I WAS THERE !!!! AMAZING SHOW !!!!
Crossroads..... Bow to Ginger going back snd forth on his syncopation. Incredible.ty. Great band. Great stuff. Best I ever heard jack sing.
VERY cool Mike !!! Thanx bro !!!
Wonderful, thanks!
Is that Mary Ann from Brooklyn telling people to sit down before the show even started? The greatest band in the World for that brief fleeting moment. It occurred to me recently that the band Rush wanted to be Cream when they grew up. What musician didn’t want to be one of those 3 guys.
ZZ TOP TOO
Thank you very much I was 16/ first big concert at the Garden That revolving stage ?? still loved it Of course slow hand was amazing they all were when they were facing you haha A life-changing experience
Those were the days!
Thanks for this it's a treat to see these photos and listen to the greatest power trio of all time
3 masters
Absolutely great stuff. Thanks for posting. Jimi was live in Minneapolis on the same night.
Thanks!!!!
Thank you!
That was me telling them to get the camera out of the way. Back when I was a 17 year old girl
That’s awesome, glad to hear from you! Anything you remember from the concert other than the annoying camera? Lol
"Siddown " ..." get that camrah outta hee--ah ?
so that's why there is no film of this it's àll your fault lol.
This is an epic one !!!
Yeah, sit down already !!!
Hope you make more "remasters" in the future, cheers
Great effort & quite enjoyable... peace....
I was 13 and had seats close to the revolving stage. Almost caught a broken drum stick flung out into the crowd by Ginger. Immediately went out and bought Wheels of Fire.
How cool is this! Awesome pics, hardly seen any of them. And the music...I believe they were headed to Providence RI for their final US gig then on to the RAH for final farewell. Thanks so much!
Actually it was Baltimore the next night, followed by Providence and then RAH! Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
@@MikeLeftonMusic Thanks for the correction Mike!
Moody blues opening in Baltimore not sure who else....would love that whole concert if it existed
So the Yardbirds shaped this 'rave up' sort of jam style, these three became the best proponents because of the raw talent. The notion that the Yardbirds weren't 'trad' enough for Clapton seems such a ruse. Here in Cream he plays with the abandon of Jeff Beck. Jack and Ginger gave him canvas on which to paint. The single pickup Firebird is so perfect for this, and Jack and Ginger have never been equaled. Thanks for this,
I missed them at the Grande, but my step mother worked at a trendy sporting goods store in Birmingham just north of Detroit. These fellows came shopping and she asked them to leave because they looked like ner'do wells. Someone else working at the shop said, "Do you know who you just tossed out?" She didn't.
I was 15 years old and had traveled from Pawcatuck, Connecticut to get there. Maybe I was on a school trip my memory .
One of my all time favorites Got to see the reunion tour at MSG!!
Me too! Second night, Oct 25.. it was an unforgettable experience!
Imagine what it might have been to see the last of RAH 68...and then in May 2005!!! The significance of the TIME MACHINE
Me 3!! Was sooo happy they came to the States for those 2 reunion shows.
@@MikeLeftonMusic Yes thats when i was there ...Picked up tix in a bar after buying them from some agency and thats how it worked thought i was geetiin ripped off thank god it worked out
@@pabloperez4063 wow I know Clapton high back then was a wild man....
Every one of these old bootleg concerts from NYC that I've listened to feature members of the audience yelling "sit down!!"
That run Clapton plays at 1:09:00 is sick.
Това е първата супер група!
They had a revolving stage for the MSG shows, their last in America.
Mike, great find. I don't think they've used any of these performances from MSG on any Live Cream collections. I always love to hear new versions of their classics.
Nice job, Mike! Thanks for pulling this together.
Abe Union pride I was there one of the best shows I have ever seen all three were in top form that's why they were called cream there music will never die live on forever
Awesome work dude, thank you very much for this. I can take LSD now and just listen this master piece.
I did copy guitar of the Crossroads of the Eric Clapton in this concert. and i think this Clapton's Improvisation is pretty good.
You didn't ask me about my other tracks. the pics are super fabulous !
Would of loved to be there.
고마워요 ~~~^^👍👍
Looking forward to this I was in the Second row
i was there the first rock sellout @ "the new MSG"
Was at this show 😂
This jazz band was Ginger's idea. As Jack tells it, Eric was playing the role of Eric Dolphy, but they never told him.
TWO WORDS ....
" THE BEST " !!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Great Greatest
I was going to buy tickets to the last show - could not de-mob fast enough, missed by one day
Pretty murky ... but damn obscure . Thanks !
the reverse Firebird! TU for your devotion! I am a Jimi devotee myself but No one touches the heights this trio do LIVE in 1968. There were so many heavy live acts in '68 & then Led Zep shows up in Denver, CO on 26 December 1968 so them too, lol.
Saw led at Newport jazz festival they were so bad thought they would never make it lol
OMG
"Mr. Clapton's silvery lightning guitar
flights were incredible in their economy, speed and directioning." -Robert Shelton, NYTimes, 11/68
Very nice! The best version of this concert I heard so far. Is there a link for a lossless files?
Clapton can play so good, fucked up, all the great ones can.
I love and respect Cream very much.Amen Clapton is God.
Thanks God for the last show guys don't have nothing more to show and they now
