This is a fantastic find, and THANK YOU so much for sharing it. This was Cream at the peak of their enormous powers. It just doesn't get any better than this, and this---like Wheels of Fire---sends shivers down my spine. To this very day, more than a half-century later. They didn't play. They flat roared.
This is a cracking audience recording for the time and an amazing performance. Well done to the original tapers and for all the detective work in unearthing and sharing .

Anyone who says Jack Bruce is not rock music's greatest bassist just needs to listen "N.S.U" here. There is also a furious version of "I'm So Glad" on their MSG shows in November 1968, where all of them just shine.

I saw Cream the Spring of 1968. Actually, I had not seen any rock band so I didn't have a frame of reference. Bruce and Clapton had two Marshall stacks and Ginger Baker literally had his drums nailed to the stage. Bands back then didn't have much of front end for sound so the mics were pretty much for the. vocals and probably for the drums. Tales of Brave Ulysses was memorable as Clapton was using a wah wah and through the Marshalls it was out of this world. I guess you had to be there.
Is this the bootleg where Eric says this one's dedicated to Jack's wife Janet, before doing 'Sweet Wine '.I still have it,it cost me a fiver in 68/9.They do 'Stepping Out' as well.

Thanks Edoardo. I can see that the tapes were a Shamrock 051 and Scotch 203. Out of curiosity, what speed were the March 3 & March 10 recorded at? That is assuming that they were mastered on these tapes as opposed to these tapes being safety copies.
What is the point of this sort of shitty recording ? I think it dishonors the band and the producers, engineers, etc. who collaborated to make high quality recordings. This is not a rhetorical question. I really want to know what the point is ?
Shut your trap. This audience recording isn't half bad and it's a real joy to listen to if you put on those headphones and just groove. It doesn't do any dishonor. If anything, it magnifies further just how great a jam band Cream was!
Because it shows MASTERS at work and some of us appreciate it no matter what the quality. If you shut out all the things that were recorded to perfection, you lose all that brought them to that point. And often, that is better than what was played in the studio.
There are a lot of recordings of Charlie Parker in circulation that sound far worse, but with certain artists, their big fans want to hear ***anything*** they haven't heard before. If the recording quality bothers you, no one is forcing you to listen to it. I'm listening to Cream improvise on NSU right now, and it's a revelation!
it's like any rare finds ie. early zz top bootlegs - you're listening for the musicianship/tone from the gear; and have to set aside the recording itself. if this thing was pro recorded [like if most of cream's shows] it would kill. also, this is a pre-FB [4/68] tape so it's the Fool LP/SG.

That's correct. They had come from their famous salute concert to the Haight on their flatbed truck. It was Sunday March 3.

It was actually 8 shows over 2 weeks, with two sets per night. I was there on 2/29/68.

If he hadn't stopped using heroin, he would be dead now.
