Another abandoned exploration, featuring a few of my favourite things - Old mills, tiny houses and a forest!
In this video I go exploring the valley of Jumble Hole and visit the ruins that remain there. There was a working mill in here for about 100 years, I have no idea how they built it or maintained it as the landscape is pretty unforgiving. It is currently being knocked down but there was a little bit left to see.
I also go visit a tiny abandoned house which I have been coming to for years. It has a hobbit like quality to it, and is in probably one of the most tranquil locations on earth. Every time I visit I think how amazing it would be to live there.
A big thank to Jack Walsh at norternexposure.uk for the great work
Also, thanks to Adrian Waterhouse for the ace pictures of the mill before the demolition began.

I've got a funny feeling this channels gonna grow and grow, mega likeable chap, interesting content and infectious enthusiasm. 👍👍
Hey thanks I really appreciate it. Keeps me wanting to make videos with nice comments like this 😀
Good points.
Spot on. Couldn't agree more
Well he has drawn me in.....
I so loved this video. Thank you. I have watched others of yours but liked this best. And your dog is adorable. I wish you success
David, that’s a great place. I’m sure you would live very well there, if you could get your hands on it. I’m the girl from Essex, I now live in Perth Australia. Unfortunately I’m battling breast cancer, I don’t have much time left. I so enjoy listening to your story’s and knowledge of the history. Thank you Kung Fu Sue
Hey thanks for watching. What year did you leave England?
I’m so sorry to hear about your current situation.
Thanks for the support, it really means a lot
Hi I left when I was 13 years old. I came back when I was 17 and been backwards and forwards. I work as a nurse. My accent is still very Essex. I have always been fascinated with historical old buildings.
What a wonderful, haunting, winter landscape - which you capture beautifully (both visually and descriptively) 👍🏻
Thanks you I really appreciate it 😀
Here here 💯❗🌳
I'd ❤ to live in Yorkshire Forest..
Away from the madness that's taken over now.
Once again Dave you have excelled. Love your little companion. Thank you for freezing to bring us pleasure. Stay safe.
I know why you love places like this ,you get a feeling of inner peace ,there's a little Glen near my home and I spent so many days taking my kids to explore there ,they loved it .Nature at its best ,New years day was good ,kids always grabbed an icicle just like you did ,wonderful wandering with you 😊 thanks ,brought back many memories 👍 Bonnie little dog 😍
You mentioned in another video you wanted to be an actor and it couldn't be. But I think it's because the universe had a bigger plan for you: to show us people around the world the wonders of abandoned places, and incredible tours and stories. And I hope your channel grows and grows.
The atmosphere is amazing - Ted is a star in the making careful he doesn't take the limelight😀
He’s great isn’t he 😀
I stumbled on your channel a few days ago when I watched the abandoned pub trail one....I've subscribed because your content is fascinating and I love how excited you get whilst exploring and looking, then ultimately finding things...your commentary skills are brilliant.....I'll be sticking around for more :) keep up the great work :)
Ahh thanks for this. I really appreciate it. Spurs me on to make more films when I get comments like this 😀😀
@@wanderingturnip Ohh yeahhh keep them coming...I've binge watched most of yours, I'm running out! haha...and you're very welcome, credit where it's due :)
Wandering Turnip is certainly entertaining... makes you want to watch until the end!
@@thedarklandsmusic Absolutely :)
yes he is a very clever and positive chap.
When we lived in Dumfries, there was a place almost identical up the valley behind our house. It really was magical, right on edge of Forest of Ay. Like you, I spent many happy hours dreaming about, sorting it out & living there.
Just found your channel today, where you were looking at places in London & then the £12,000 house!
Its a national scandel - ALL successive governments since the 2nd World War have allowed huge swathes of perfectly descent homes/houses to stagnate & end up in the state you were showing. Claiming money pits are worth £20/30+ thousand, when they uninhabitable without full restoration, starting with new roofs?!
They ripped the hearts out of all those community's and blamed it on unfortunate individuals who never stood a chance, while greedy corrupt councillors/local MPsetc take bungs ,whilst doing NOTHING on a practical level.
I'm 59 ,I've had a blessed life growing up all around the world, seeing Germany,Japan and even Italy, I have to seriously wonder who really won that despicable 2nd world war!
I grew up in Chelsea,London & have always had a base in this area my whole life; its SO easy to loose perspective on the state of the rest of the country.pariculary when you don't drive.
Many of thise derelict homes you show shoukd be conficated from councils/suppoed land lords & sold of for £5,with intrest free grants to help first time/new owners to revamp them,on condition they AND THEY ALONE ,live in them for minimum of 10 years; to incentives the establishment of new neighbourhoods - SAFE,,place for owners to live?
They have similar schemes in other places in Europe, which prove it works.
Your programs are areal eye openers, keep up the fight/good work.
With very best wishes to you & yours - including that sweet dog - and thank you for the time /energy that you put into the production of your posts.
Very best wishes to you&yours💥👊👏👏👏❤️💯🏚🛠🪛🪚🪜🧰🔜🏠👋⭐️💯✌️
Thanks for taking us along on this great ramble. Best wishes that your ambitions work out 💚
Thanks for joining 😀
As a northerner around Christmas/this time of year, I miss going for walks in this weather during the winter, thanks for this video, seeing you and Battlecat go on a adventure through the enchanted forest has really made my day. Your videos are getting better and better 👍
Yeah this weather is the absolute perfect for walks in Yorkshire. I love it! Cheers for watching 😀
"Battlecat?" I thought he was called Ted!????
Beautiful winter walk with a good dash of historical wonder, love it, thank you ❤
Hey thank you for the nice words 😀
Aww Ted is adorable 🐾🐾great video..Ty for sharing Mr WT🎉
Such a great video! I work in construction and always marvel at the skill, knowledge and sheer graft that goes into old buildings like this, and get lost thinking about the lives and families they supported
Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks pal! I’m totally with you. I find it amazing how in places like this they even got the stone there to build.
@@wanderingturnip I would say some of those were 2 ton stones. Unreal!
The skill & graft is incredible to imagine, such different times. Love it
I always wanted to be a dry stone waller when I was young but could not find anywhere to get to learn the traid nobody could help gutted wish i persevered
@@Rub10617 no time like the present!
Wow what a gem! I hope someone will put some love into it and make it a cozy house.
LOVE THIS VIDEO , NATURE , DOG , SNOW , BEAUTIFUL
Love your videos, feel like I'm going off on an adventure with each one. Keep them coming!
Thanks Dan 😀
Hi Ted the dog 🐾🐾🐕🐾🐾 new sub here 🌟💖🌟 great video 💖🥰💖
That was a beautiful walk. I'm definitely going to go and visit your tiny little house.
You should, but be warned, you will want to move in 😂
Where exactly is that place, can you please post a link to Google maps with a tag? Thanks
Be cool doing a wild camp in that little house! Great video!
It really would
There's some massive round backed spiders with jagged legs and a red mark on them that live there. They used to inhabit the box outside the door. Proper nasty looking things! That's would be on my mind all night!
@@RideBikes_Walkplaces Sounds even more interesting then! I love spiders!
Loved going with you on your ramble to the ruined mill and tiny house. In my younger days, I did the same in the mountains and valleys of Vermont (USA). There's something remarkably peaceful about such places, the rugged scenery (and the day was perfect), that cleanses the soul and nourishes the spirit. I just discovered your channel, and hope to share in more of your interesting adventures! Thanks 😊!
Thanks for this Gary! Hopefully lots more videos to come 👍👍
Maybe he needs to do some US based content
Your videos cheer me up when I'm feeling down. Thank you.
I love Ted. He is adorable. Your inthusiasm is amazing. Great video. Great channel
I appreciate it thank you for watching 😀😀
Thanks again for another enjoyable watch, you have one of the most interesting channels on RUclips, Best Regards
Hey thanks for this Peter. I really appreciate your kind words, and it spurs me on to keep making videos so cheers 😃
Bit of a walk in middle of night for the bog lmao I love Teddy he was a typical dog looking at you saying sod this im cold im going back lol
Ahah he actually loves weather like this. What he hates, is summer. Far too bushy for that heat 😂
It's great to see people who have a passion for something and yours is really infectious mate. Subscribed!
Hey cheers Ryan I appreciate it!
The scenery is very enchanting.
Little Ted truly had his little legs walked off 😅.... Brilliant as always x
Absolutely love your videos! You give an authentic view of hidden gems we would it ever know about. This particular video of the woods is gorgeous- I love the serene and mystical landscape so much! Thank you for letting us join you on your walk if only virtually, sooo refreshing! BTW, your little dog is adorable 🥰
Hey thanks so much for this. Lovely to have nice feedback like this.
Lots more to come 😀
I’m with you, hate grey and rainy. Awesome scenery and love the abandoned house!makes you want to rebuild it and move in. With a little bit of work that would be a fabulous bothy. Andy UK
Yeah that’s what it would need to be. A bothy. I would never want to take the magic from that place, somewhere where people can find it accidentally and explore like it do.
Absolutely stunning landscape. Thank you so much for showing us all this. ❤
Ace that mate, keep enjoying our great outdoors i do whenever i can 👍
Thank you pal! And I shall for as long as I can
That’s beautiful. I’m jealous. I’m in a flat boring place with no seasons to speak of. Only hot and not quite so hot. One day I will leave. Thanks for a glimpse of something nicer.
Stunningly beautiful snowy landscape, fantastic natural unscripted commentary and little Ted trotting along in his jacket - so freakin' cute!!!
Love this channel 🙌💕
What a great channel this is! Nature is just so beautiful. Very enjoyable here & relaxing. I keep looking for Ted. I hope you protect his little feet with something. ❤❤❤
Love the vids bro 👍 keepin northwest history alive 💪
Cheers Dan! I appreciate it
Yes, a connection to a past life, I felt that prior to you saying it.
Keep em coming. What perfectly eerie weather for that mission.
So many memories .As a child we used to go for walks up there and then onto old Nazebottom Church. Shame but understandable that the walls are being brought down. But thanks for sharing your walk with us.
I love your Videos, so informatative......keep the great work up 👍👍
I just found you and I’m glad I did. You’ve got great content and I could listen to your accent for hours. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧🇬🇧
Only recently found your site, really enjoying your videos, keep them coming, such engaging content, loved this one, in the mist and snow, and what a beautiful place. Thank you x

Love your perspective on all things beautiful and hidden x
I absolutely loved this video, made me home sick with all the snow and that beautiful valley.. thankyou.
Hey cheers for this I appreciate it!
I love your content and so agree with you about living in the woods and the ensuing happiness it brings to one’s soul!
Such a magical place. Thank you.
Just love all of your videos but this one is brilliant! Ted is a star 🌟
He really is 😀
I would love to visit this place 😍 and camp out overnight
Yeah would be amazing wouldn’t it
Just started ,1st time watching your very interesting channel. Keep up the great content. You’ve got me hooked already. 👏👏👍👍
Dave, you are amazing! Love the little house in the woods.
Another fantastic video, the old house was the cherry on the cake, keep it up my man great work 👍
Yeah thanks for this 👍
I enjoy watching your RUclips clip it looks like that small little home was some type of Forest keepers home years ago and it's got into disrepair and I doubt it anybody will repair it and make it in use again but it's been enjoyable listening to you and watching what you're doing in the forest I think it was marvellous and very entertainment thank you very much
Hey I appreciate it Daniel cheers for watching!
Another great explore! Nice to have Ted with you out in the snow! Glad I found your channel a couple of weeks ago, some interesting visits! Looking forward to visiting Yorkshire in April
Thanks for this. Ah nice you will have a great time visiting 👍
Awesome video and spot🤩🏡💚
I want that little house too🏡😁💚🌴
Thank you🙏☀️🥰
I was in the 'light' valley forest at Hebden Bridge.
I walked to the other side way above Hebden when I came across a ruined old farmhouse.
Like you I took a wee look inside, found some cellar stone steps and began to go down when I heard a sound that stopped me dead !
Large wild cat !!!! No mistaking that sound !!!!
I backed off slowly up the steps and made it back to Hebden park alot lot quicker than I went up ...
' so be careful '
Thanks for the fascinating winter walk, especially as I am not able to get out walking myself at the moment (broken foot) and we’ve had no snow down south. I would love to live in a tiny house in the woods.
Hey thank you for this! Sorry to hear about the foot, that first walk about is going to be ace though 😀
Lovely video, thank you! I really hope you get the money and the opportunity to buy your little hideaway house one day and write your bestselling book!
How cool would that be! Cheers for watching 😀
Your super funny too 🤣🤣🤣🤣 i just love Ted waddling along dutifully great little guy bless him...great explore it was truly refreshing xxx
Thanks for taking us on your adventures. I have always spotted little nooks and crannies and imagined living in them. Love your meanderings.
Absolutely stunning wee place in a gorgeous location ❤ Wonderful, engaging approach to things and brilliant enthusiasm, what a lovely channel 😊
What a beautiful area, must have been glorious out there that day with your adorable wee Ted ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely love TED, your tiny companion, may be he should have his own channel 🤣🐕🐕😂👍
If I ever won the lottery....
Lovely video
P.S. What would that mill have been used for so high up?
So it used to be a cotton mill. But I don’t know why it was built in such a mad location. I guess the top of the valleys was much more prosperous back in the day, and it is high up
Just stumbled across your video Where ever you are it's just beautiful I love places like that. Thank you for sharing this
Thank you for watching 😀
Another Awesome video. Such a beautiful part of the world you live in.
lovely little hideaway and so much hidden history
great videos mate n great to see hidden bits of my beloved Yorkshire
Thanks mate! 😀
Awwa so magical another gem my friend at last someone doing a professional video so happy I've found you, hard to find dedication like yours for things of past beauty .
❤ not many of us that do xx
Yup keep doing more stuff, love abandoned stuff. There's loads of it in Wales as well, I've often wondered if you could buy one as a project and make it into a an affordable home. I'd much rather spend time making a home I love than spend my time earning money to buy one.
I’ll have to come check out Wales at some point, I keep hearing about good stuff there
love your videos, your commentary and your enthusiasm.
Great walk on a day like that..Great little house u found there. I was up on the cliffs recently on East Coast of isle of man n found an old stone fire place, last remains of a dwelling from donkeys year. Keep up the good work pal👍🙂
Oh nice that sounds ace. Did you get any photos?
@@wanderingturnip no I left phone car , schoolboy error😔
Really enjoyed your London Video recently, The comparison between a 500k home in London and 500k Home Up North, proves big cities are done for , as the price of everything becomes out of reach sadly.
Accidentally came across one of your videos when you filmed housing in Burnley. Being a Burnley girl I had to watch 🙈. It’s not all that bad you know 😆. Love watching your videos, keep them coming 🙂 x
Haha yeah that was only tiny parts of Burnley, lots of it is great! But thanks for watching a few of my films I appreciate it 😀
What an enjoyable video!
Content aside (and I do love discovering old ruins when I'm and about), your character is very endearing to being a presenter and your humour is appreciated.
Gorgeous little Ted
Enjoyed your Video and love your Doggie
Enjoyable video and a fascinating location, so a comment for the algorithm. 🖖
Hey thanks for this I appreciate it 😀
Lovley dog. Enjoy your walks great fantastic
Thank you!
Beautiful place , hope it never gets knocked down
I live not far from there but I’ve never walked up there. Will have to have a wander it’s beautiful and I love finding old ruins too.
Great videos 👌
Well Turnip, that is some snow...kind of. Wish I could send you a pic of what we are dealing with north of Lake Superior. Love your doggie. Great video !
Ooo send me some pics - wanderingturnip2022@gmail.com
What a great forest for walking your dog !
I went back today, it looked ace, completely covered in bluebells
The terracing is elaborate and contains a number of niches that were used for skeps (portable beehives made out of rope or wicker). Other than that, we have no further information about its history
You need to come to Canada in winter. 😊
I've recently found your channel and your presence on camera is just awesome!
I’ve always wanted to, hopefully I’ll be able to get across soon. If you have any cool tips or place I should check out over there do let me know 👍
I'd suggest coming in the fall and either go to the east coast (Nova Scotia) or come to Ontario to see the gorgeous fall colours we have here. 🙂
Love your videos fella .Im now planning a few walks this year off the back of them. Also theres not many folk who appreciate old buildings and imagine what they were like in their day.
I’ve been doing a few urban exploring in the last year it’s absolutely cathartic I always try to get a feel for the building I’m exploring
Hey thanks pal! Really cool to see you’ve got some walks planned, I really recommend some of the mill chimneys 👍👍
It really is cathartic
@@sammiecichockyj7326 I love rundown old buildings, But i don't like stately homes there's something sinister about them. I get weird vibes while im in them .
I’ve been to coco Chanel’s pad isle of sky and Hampton court Hampton court feels a bit like that
Another peculiar subject I also love, very under valued today
😀
Just discovered your channel today and really enjoying your videos. I like your little dog Ted too, what a cutie 💓
