I have been iron deficient since 8 yrs old. Now 44 annd symptoms ate a bit more problematic. Had blood transfusion and recently iron infusion. I needed this video desperately. I want to turn this around with diet and stay out of doctors office over this issue.. thank u kindly for. This content❤️ Ps. A very very mild , non constipating over the counter iron pill is called SLO-FE ... Found at Walgreens , Walmart, cvc etc
My doctor put me on slow fe and I ended up having so much menstrual bleeding that I had to stop the supplement. It's not for everyone and can lead to iron toxicity. But if your doctor recommends it then do as they say
1 cup a day of beet juice for 7 days can quickly bring up your iron levels. Keeping it up there requires a strong healthy diet. Ive experienced this on myself. It really helps. Doesn't taste good-but then almost every food that is good for your body doesnt taste good..
I started a Keto diet in March 2021 I just recently discovered that my iron level has been shot to pieces on 8/october I have to go to the hospital for an iron infusion. Today 27/9/21I started to prepare half-cup carrots half a cup of beetroot half a cup of pomegranate fruit 6/7 dates 2 tbsp grated coconut 2 cups water and blend separate in half drink half one day then drink the second half alternate days.
Ty for this!!! I just went to my physical doc today and he says that my face looks super tired and uncolored than the rest of my body. He told me my iron was very low than it's supposed to be.
I'm hoping some of these will work for me (hate fish and spinach so that is a no, as is liver, yuck!) I have had anemia foreverrrrr and I can't take it in pill form because it gives me excruciating stomach aches. Had multiple infusions over the years but it's too expensive for me to continue. So changing my diet is my last hope. I am so tired of being tired! Thanks for sharing this!
I could never stomach liver either, but the doctor suggested to my mother that she might try sandwiches made with Oscar Mayer liver sausage. It's made with pork liver instead of beef and has bacon added. She would add a thin layer of butter to plain white bread before spreading it on. I loved them ice cold! That awful smell and taste of bile is non-existent, that would literally make me sick and race for the bathroom as a youngster.
ive been suffering with pain at the back. of my neck, and seems like i was having an iron deffeciency, i'll try some of these enfo, glad to have seen this
I needed this video. I donate plasma because I need the extra money and it’s nice to know I’m helping others. They said my iron was alittle low but wasn’t low enough to not donate but I’m gonna be eating a lot of oatmeal cereal and rice 😂I’m broke asf trying to rent a place to live so gotta stay on a budget💯
The food richest in iron that I know of is Chlorella. Chlorella comes mostly in powder form, but can also be found in capsules. The iron content is absolutely insane! In a teaspoon you get 5mg of iron, if you do the math, it's around 15-16 times more iron than in chicken liver! Please check that out, all of those who needs a good natural source of iron.
Chlorella is an algae that is not available in most stores or eaten as a food. The amount of iron varies with the type of algae. Even chlorella supplements can be a good or a poor source of iron and it is non-heme iron so you need more of it to obtain the RDA.
Thank you for this.. I've been so dizzy lately. I have been wondering if it's because of not getting enough iron. I've always had really low iron levels.
Who knew iron would be so important as you age. Never even considered I might be deficient in my 70’s. Was strong in my 60’s. Now not so much. Need more Iron.
You are correct. I've not found any data that states eating high tannin foods, like dark chocolate, reduces iron absorption enough to make it a low or no iron food.
I think im lack of iron....hair loss n back pain under my neck....chase pain weakness....i thought its becz of gastric n cheak up for more then 6 time...but still my pain is not heal.....i eat soft food but no relief....now i know its all becz. Of lack of oron in my body..thanks you doctor 🙏🏿
Thanks alot!! I've been low hemoglobin level so doctor recommended me to eat Fe contained food I was searching for em' so yeah it will be good die plan
You're welcome. Most fruit has very little iron. Vegetables, legumes and grains are better sources but it is nonheme iron. So 2 mg of nonheme plant food iron does not provide the same amount of absorbable iron as 2 mg of animal heme iron.
Hello, thank you, this is helpful for someone that has anemia. Should one eat these types of food and take special medication for iron increasment or is food enough ? 🤗
Hello Val, It depends on what is causing anemia. Iron rich foods are best for dietary iron deficiency. Taking too much supplemental iron can cause iron overload. If you're taking prescription iron, your doctor will check for iron overload. Most healthy people can obtain enough iron from their diet.
I have had low iron ( ferritin levels) for a few years now. I’ve been taking iron supplements and trying to eat an iron rich diet although I don’t want to eat beef. Doctors believe the anemia results in invisible but steady blood loss due to a hiatal hernia. The pills plus diet help me to keep my ferritin to an acceptable level medical level according to doctors but i believe its not enough because I’m always tired and get out of breath climbing stairs. I’ve had a few iron infusions and I felt great afterwards but now the doctors won’t agree to it because my levels are not in the anemic level yet. I also feel that the hernia blocks some of the iron rich food to get absorbed. Frustrating Thanks for the tips.
Eating an iron rich diet may help if low ferritin is causing iron deficiency anemia. The fact you feel tired and out of breath without being anemic could indicate a blood, respiratory or heart condition. If you have not done so already, consider seeing a hematologist, cardiologist or pulmonologist. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you feel better soon.
From what I understand, the oxalate in Spinach and other vegetables can create as little as only 1-2% iron absorption. eating fish, red meat and eggs is supposed to be far better and will help in absorbing iron when eating vegetables that have iron in them.
According to one research study, oxalic acid does not reduce nonheme iron absorption. Absorbing too much iron from animal foods can be lead to iron overload and heart, kidney, and liver damage.
fyi: Iron absorption is often *significantly* impaired by unsuspecting food combinations, for example, Calcium in particular is implicated in competing with Iron for absorption into the body; the result, eating 1oz of cheese with a meal could nullify or destroy much of the bioavailable Iron before absorption can take place in the body. Another lesser known (but arguably more important) variable is a chemical found in seeds called "Phytic Acid", there are many, many studies demonstrating that high consumption of Phytic Acid [grains, nuts, legumes, seeds] significantly* impairs the absorption of vital minerals like Iron, Magnesium, and Zinc. You will find that people often report difficulty recovering from Iron-Deficiency Anemia and considering the overrepresentation of these offending foods within our American diets then it **does not** surprise me whatsoever that many find themselves in an impossible long-war scenario... In other news, Vitamin C is highly capable of both increasing uptake of Iron and also competing with Phytic Acid to facilitate absorption [Vitamin A too]. Non-heme Iron sources are far, far less bioavailable to the body [Spinach, Grains, etc.] than animal-based Iron sources [Beef, chicken hearts, etc.]. Therefore, if you have Iron-Deficiency Anemia the most efficient escape route would be a meal like this: 6oz ground beef burger, topped with spinach, a generous serving of broccoli on the side, and some cooked carrots in a side dish.
You are quite correct about foods that improve and inhibit iron absorption. Although it is beyond the scope of this video, I am working on videos about iron absorption. Thanks for sharing.
18.4 is a little high and may not be due to your diet. The Mayo Clinic website discusses high hemoglobin count: www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/high-hemoglobin-count/basics/causes/sym-20050862
They said that I am very low on iron and they want to give me infusion ivy for my lack of irons Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Monday and Wednesday for five days of infusion but I prefer natural method of moringa do you have any suggestions. They said that I have Anemia
okay so actually red meat is pretty low on the list and bran flakes and beans (basically a vegan diet) can provide a greater source or iron. I'll do that then. I'm not even vegan but i was ready to spend money on steak (which is expensive) - luckily beans are much cheaper.
Red meat, poultry, and fish have heme iron that is more absorbable than nonheme iron in fortified foods like cereal. The risk of iron overload is lower eating foods with nonheme iron.
According to my information, heavy periods could be due to hormone imbalance and other causes not related to iron. Here is information that may help you. www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menorrhagia/symptoms-causes/syc-20352829
Increasing iron will help replace all the iron you're losing through heavy periods but it won't cure the problem of having heavy periods, many birth control methods from the dr can dramatically reduce periods and the associated pain though. either way starting eating right can likely improve your general health.
Yeah I have heavy periods but when I come on I stay wayyyy longer then 5-7 min use to go into the next cycle so I started taking vitex to control my regular cycles and slow my heavy periods and it worked but now that I have iron deficiency I have not had a period since Jan and I was told by my herbalist that I'm anemic my hair coming out no periods I'm extremely fatigue I have all the symptoms of anemia but I'm taking herbs it takes its time working but I slowly see a change
In the U.S., the nutrition label must list iron. Manufactures can change the amount of enrichment at any time so it is best to check the nutrition label.
Cereal manufacturers are not required to fortify breakfast cereals with iron and other minerals so the amount can vary by country. Bran cereals, plain and with raisins, can be a good source if they are fortified.
@@shelbysagoe does malto meal work? I have low iron now than I used to and I thinks it’s messing up my cycle, I donate my blood so I have to watch it more now
According to several research studies dietary calcium and low dose calcium supplements have a small effect on iron absorption. Taking high dose calcium supplements (1,000 mg) could have an effect. One large eggs has about 28 mg and 4 oz (113 g) of broccoli 45 mg.
Cow's milk is high in calcium that binds with iron reducing available iron for absorption. People with iron deficiency anemia should not drink milk with high iron foods.
Jaggery is a good source of Iron. When taken with roasted groundnuts, it helps in increasing the Hemoglobin tremendously. Any extra sources of Iron for a vegetarian?
You can try changing your diet by replacing meat heme iron with plant non-heme iron, reducing high iron foods, and drinking tea with high iron foods to reduce iron absorption. If that does not work, there are medications that reduce the amount of iron (ferritin) in your blood.
I have an iron overload and ferritin overload Latest iron studies in Lab My blood iron became normal but my ferritin level is still high Can you advice me what to do to lower my ferritin level Thank you
Your doctor or a hematologist need to determine what is causing your high ferritin level. There are several disease that can cause higher than normal ferritin.
Oats, whole grains, broccoli, dark chocolate, chickpeas, pasta, spinach, leafy greens, lentils, tofu, white beans, fortified breakfast cereals.
Thanks

Figs are a good source of iron, but most U.S. grocers do not stock them.
You have to take iron with vitamin C for your body to absorb it.
Vitamin C does appear to increase nonheme plant food iron absorption. Many plant foods are goods sources of vitamin C.
Sir please reply what about cow milk is it good or bad for anemic
Cow's milk is high in calcium that binds with iron reducing available iron for absorption. People with iron deficiency anemia should not drink milk with high iron foods.
@@DiTuroProductions thanks sir, please suggest foods to fight anemia
Assuming you mean iron deficiency anemia, animal foods (beef, lamb, goat, pork, poultry) are the best source of easily absorbed heme iron.
@@DiTuroProductions thank you sir beef if good option
Jaggery is a good source of Iron. When taken with roasted groundnuts, it helps in increasing the Hemoglobin tremendously. Any extra sources of Iron for a vegetarian?
Thank you for sharing.
Pls tell me how to reduce iron in the body..
You can try changing your diet by replacing meat heme iron with plant non-heme iron, reducing high iron foods, and drinking tea with high iron foods to reduce iron absorption. If that does not work, there are medications that reduce the amount of iron (ferritin) in your blood.
Ok.. thank you.. but tell me what r all the iron reducing foods.. pls ..
Low iron foods include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans.
