      I think if these sell well, we'll most likely get it. RacingBrick did a video with the designer and he talks about how Lego have done TV/movie cars in the past like the Mystery Machine, the Batmobiles, etc. but they wanted to do a theme/subtheme of them and that's what they're hoping to do with Speed Champions. I feel like we'll probably get more cars like the Delorean, KITT and hopefully many more

    It would be cool if LEGO added opening bonnets and boots. I'm able to do it on MOCS of 6 wide cars. So, they should definitely be able to do it on 8 wide cars.

    Absolutely love this thing. I just love both classic and modern muscle cars and I'm amazed on how far the designers went for this one. Looks great alongside the Challenger from last year but that's to be expected. Also, Speed Champions getting a 2nd wave is such a treat especially movie cars even if there's only two sets.

    This is a pretty cool representation of the 70 Dodge Charger! I'm not sure how they could make the other cars we saw in the Fast & Furious movies without the side graphics, it would not translate well in Lego form, and you don't want to overlap stickers on multiple bricks! Otherwise, pretty cool build!

    The 8-wide looks more accurate to the real vehicle but I can't get over the scaling. Sure, scale with minifigs will never be perfect due to their different proportions, but the 8-wide cars are distractingly huge in comparison.

    • @J3TF1RE
      @J3TF1RE 2 года назад +4

      I love the 8 wides for the detail but they can be scaled down quite well back to 6 wide. I’ve done the Jesko and the Lambo (black and gold one)

    • @experimentsininsanity4478
      @experimentsininsanity4478 2 года назад +10

      I mean each option here comes with disadvantages:
      - 6 wide, old speed champions standard? Better scale, but only fits one minifig, which to me puts it in an uncanny valley where it looks more like a toy than a car. (Also a lot of them look too long to me)
      - 8 wide, new speed champions? More detail, fits two across, but looks oversized compared to a lot of other LEGO things
      - 6 wide, but modified to fit 2 across? Kind of a best of both worlds approach, but it forces the car to use the thin doors and you have to do things to the arms to get them to fit.

    • @pewpewdragon4483
      @pewpewdragon4483 2 года назад +5

      I agree and I personally find more charm in vehicles that are scaled to minifigures rather than optimized for detail and accuracy,. At the very least, the proportion of the lego parts need to matchup decently to the real thing, which in the case of 8-wide often fails with the wheels being undersized.

    I haven't built a LEGO set in 4 years and this was the entry back for me and I gotta say as a Fast and Furious fan I'm incredibly happy with this set its so cool. I bought it before the price increase luckily it's good value for 20$. 8 studs wide is so much better, but the 6 stud one represents the overall look which is also decent. The door handles are a very innovative solution definately better than a sticker like on the Aston Martin. Only slight disappointment is the license plate if that would be a print it would be perfect for me, but the taillight prints are a good compromise. Great review, Jang 👍👍

  • @Bucketroo
    @Bucketroo 2 года назад +6

    You got me all excited when you mentioned the door hinges and I thought maybe this car had opening doors. After all, why use all these plates on the sides of the car instead of vertical tiles? But nope, no doors, just lots of ugly plates stacked on top of each other.
    The back end looks really good though, and I like the printed plates.
    I might pick it up. Need the DB5 first though.

    In my eyes, 8-wide Speed Champions are comparable to Tamiya's customizable motorized track racing cars in terms of scale and displayability, which I had as a kid and continue to be popular today. To that end, the preference towards displayability pays off very well in the looks and level of detail I see in these new sets. Sure, they look out of place in City settings, but they were never really designed with that use case in mind to begin with, even in the 6-wide days (where fitting in a City setting was a bonus IMO). There isn't a first-party theme that hits the sweet spot of 5- and 6-wide cars that look good on roads anymore, and that's unfortunate.

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B 2 года назад +3

    Got into the Speed Champions sets a bit late in the game "for my kid" who was 2 or 3 at the time, and have a couple years of the 6 stud wide and thought they were cool and really didn't think anything of it because "hey it's Lego" but then the year the 8 stud wide came out (I want to say there was a Ferrari of some sort) I was absolutely blown away how much better it looked and then the short comings of the 6 stud wide ones really were apparent as they look fine from the side but if you look down the length of them they really are skinny "hot dog" cars and immediately wanted Lego to reboot all their vehicles to this 8 stud wide feel, I can image any sort of semi truck, ice cream truck, or camper van would just look so much better... I knew that wasn't going to happen but still a man can dream... for his kid :)

    @JANG's LEGO Reviews I noticed that there is two 1x1 black tile pieces before the rear begins at end of rear window shaping maybe if you remove the one by where the gas sticker goes and replace it with a black stud 1x1square and add a 1x1 grey round flat tile as the filler cap? The moving of filler cap location is a small price to pay by one stud though

  • @carumsarene

    Minifig scale cars are so finicky to make. Proper minifig scale is 3.5 studs to 1 meter, and Lego bricks are really thick compared to walls of an actual vehicle. So you either have a car that's too big, or an interior that's too small. Making a perfect in-between is definitely tricky.

    I really love the look of this car as well as the new James Bond Aston Martin
    However I have to say despite the increase in detail I really don’t like the decision to switch to8 Wide
    Even after some time to adjust to this change I still find it to be a bad decision from LEGO‘s side
    The cars look phenomenal as standalone items with a lot off detail due to the increase in size
    but they do not fit in any city Setting with other Regular minifig scaled stuff
    Another side effect of this decision is that they don’t fit with the earliest speed champions sets either
    Kind of forcing you to restart your collection
    or pick between one design style or the other

    Lego is putting prints on such weird parts sometimes but cannot do a brand sign print on the front grill? :(
    Also the 6 studs charger had the 1x1 printed tiles, why they didnt re-use them here? Especially for the back there is exact that one 1x1 black tile.
    But even those new Speed Champions prices for 25€ (in Europe) I really like, what they are doing. More interior, more details more prints (just lets remember those big sticker sheets for the 6 wide cars! lol), a license, interesting builds. I hope they keep that quality for the next Speed Champions:)

    It’d be really cool if they built a set of Brian’s orange Supra to go with it

    Question, that someone here might be able to answer for me, as I'm not really a rev-head and have only ever seen the first F&F movie years ago.
    The grey handle piece inside, is that suppose to represent a gear stick, lever or some other standard part of a Charger, or is it suppose to represent part of the nitro system (the red cylinder)?

      T-bar shift lever for the automatic transmission.

      @@JANGsLEGOreviews Sweet, thanks.
      I wanna do up a couple of versions as regular Chargers, ie without the nitro system and I wasn't sure if I should remove or keep the handle.
