    In a lot of old houses the downstairs spaces used for entertaining would have fancier, more expensive finishes than the private areas that only the family would see, so I actually love the transition to a simpler board and batten upstairs!

    • @circleofleaves2676
      @circleofleaves2676 Месяц назад +59

      I also think the simpler board and batten suits the smaller space that is the upstairs hallway, and the trim downstairs suits the bigger space.

      I love wallpaper But if she does that, the gallery wall won't look good. It would be art and color on art and color! A gallery wall of art needs a blach bland plain non color background😢! But perhaps the gallery wall can go somewhere else😮?

    • @halleyorion
      @halleyorion Месяц назад +3

      @@circleofleaves2676 I completely agree; the board and batten is so simple and calming, and it suits such a tiny space - especially one with a reading nook! I strongly prefer it to the trim.

      I like the Board and Batten because it's more in keeping with the period of the home, and adds a original look to the hallway. You did a great job on the stairway railing, and the flooring. Obviously you have more fixing to do but you've accomplished a lot already, and it is a tremendous improvement. I agree that the Cathedral window with the reading nook is beautiful. I'd like to know how that window got there, and if there were anymore in the original setup.
      I watch DIY Housewife here on RUclips and she's doing Board and Batten all over her home and it looks great. She's a workhorse and must have some Viking in her bloodline, because she makes me tired just watching her do a man's amount of labor in one day or so. Her husband films which is hilarious.

      I think it makes sense given that the owners knew it was temporary. Either the next owner was going to renovate the house and rip it out right away, or else the whole building was getting torn down. It was one step up from putting up some plastic sheeting for insulation.

      Which I've seen! A friend inherited from grand parents & it has a Big sheet of MDF wrapped in Thick plastic laying down on the opening, to block air/cold & cover the second floor off like it's the attic. As far as I know she's not been up there because they have no kids so don't need the extra rooms. I wonder if she has any antiques up there😮!!!

    It was such a relief to finish a stressful day at work and get onto the Good Screen (my not-work laptop) and see a video from you, Ariel! Commenting so I can come back and edit later, but I'm loving the summery hair so much! I am in the thick of my own full renovation and it's seriously comforting to see someone else renovating SLOWLY. Not everyone has the time or money to do a full reno in one go... I watched too much HGTV with my mom as a kid.
    Edit: Okay, I would be SO HAPPY to find studs in such great condition to use for other stuff. 😂 Sadly all the studs in my old house are needed... and I could really use more! The paint color you used for the board and batten hall is SO nice and airy, I really want to do something similar in my kitchen. I've been a big fan of Backwoods from Benjamin Moore slightly tinted lighter with white paint. I got a sample pint and added it to a gallon of white exterior paint and used it in my sad basement and it made such a huge difference.

    one super duper easy way to improve your board and batten would be to add a deep cap along the top of the panels to act as a shallow baby shelf. it would improve the order so visually it would look appealing but also u could put little knick knacks on it and like garland for christmas time and stuff like that!

    i feel like a spring-y nature motif for the wall paper would look so good in the hallway, maybe using the yellows and greens from van gogh’s sunflowers. and i think a small vintage-style chandelier would be so cute for the light fixture above the stairs! something that mimics old chandeliers that held candles.
