There are still some episodes yet to be released so this is just a theory, but I think the story reason that the shatter spaces only have the same 8 characters is because they were all in close proximity to the shatter crystal when it burst. That’s why theres no alternate reality versions of Shadow, who avoided the blast with chaos control, or Sonic who was in the epicenter of the explosion.
Shadow didn't completely avoid the blast. That's why he's in shatterspace. Right when Sonic caused the blast he chaos controled. My theory is that Sonic is going to use the prism to bring back green hill. I think the prism has more power than even the chaos emeralds so there might be a new form thats just for sonic prime. Just a theory tho.
I like what they’re doing with Sonics character in this, and the lessons he learns from how he impacts others. Deven Mack’s voice captures the energy of each scene very well, and the character interaction is solid. Missed opportunity for me so far is not giving Rusty Rose a voice filter like Gamma or Omega. It should go without saying that the animation is really good and works perfectly for Sonic. For what we have so far I’m enjoying Prime, and I’m looking forward to what comes next.
My only real issue with Sonic’s character in prime is that sometimes he’s kinda…dumb? Reminded me of how he was written in lost world a little, but I guess they did that to give sonic an arc, so I kinda forgave it. Also Devan is now my new favourite voice for sonic. He captures the cool 90s energy Drummond did back in the adventure games and I’d LOVE to see him in future sonic projects beyond prime (maybe not the main games tho, considering Roger’s finally starting to get really good now)
I'm just curious what happens when two characters like Rusty Rose and Black Rose touch, do they merge? Do the world's merge when their respective shards combine? Lots of mysteries I would like answered.
@@miaswapp it is interesting for sure. With the Rusty and Black Rose scene in mind it seems like Rusty became more emotionally expressive after they locked eyes. Oh shit you used my GIF. I made that GIF. It was made for some school work when I was in senior school (uk equivalents to high school) I was either year 9 or 10 (8th or 9th grade for you americans). I was rushed for time and not taught how motion tweaning worked, I assuming I needed to manually shift the motions and didn't know how to have something move downwards in a straight line thus i was eyeballing the jumping and falling motions, Note how jiggly the motion of falling or raising objects are. The reason mario moves and grows like that is because my ICT class was 1 hour and after that lesson was over i wouldn't get the chance to work on it again. I wanted to properly animate the movements with the sprite actually being replaced but again i didn't have time. My choice mario sprite was supposed to be mario 3 (i like that one best) but i couldn't in the rushed time find a large enough transparent one that would work. Same goes for the floor and the pipe. I couldn't find good looking pipes consistent with the style in a short rushed "whats the first row of images look like" time span. If you have any more questions just ask? Thanks nick for using it and making it a funny joke.
I love after these first 8 episodes i still have several questions that will likely be learned with further episodes like where the original sonic crew went after the shatter or what the chaos councils whole ordeal is with how they met for example
My theory is that all the worlds are fragments of the prime world Sonic shattered. The characters in each of them are also fragments of who they used to be, but with altered memories. This idea comes from the scene when something malfunctioned on Rusty Rose when she spotted Black Rose. 2 fragments of the same person. 1 missing piece. We'll see if it's true, when new episodes come out.
Easily an incredible serious that seriously got deep and deadly serious at times. I was impressed with the trailer and my hunch was correct, it was a great show with tons of fun moments and callbacks to the source material. I thought the story was great, though ended abruptly, and definitely need season 2 asap. Still a great show with fun characters and story arcs, enjoyed it thoroughly.
My two problems with this show is that the pirate and jungle world were kinda generic, and the same characters every time. There’s no reason we can’t go crazy here and do concepts like What if Chaos won, or why can’t Mighty or blaze show up for example.
Jungle universe felt like a side quest in a video game, aside from Amy there was no relevance or anything that stood out the episodes that took place there.
It’s the same characters because they’re the ones who got caught in the blast and realistically, the most recognizable in the franchise / are important to Sonic’s character. The series is more so geared towards new fans of sonic while still trying to throw in Easter Eggs here and there for older fans.
I say the limited number of characters is down the the mechanics of CGI animation as the more expensive part of these shows is always to make new high quality 3d assets. Reusing the other characters is just far far cheaper as this way they only need to add pre-existing models rather than having to make all new ones.
I liked how much Sonic got beat up honestly. It's not anything crazy but a lot of Sonic media goes the "hehe he's too fast to ever get hit or be anything but cool!" route. I like Sonic Prime for showing him trip and fall, get punched, be awkward, make mistakes- and keep going at it. You never feel like Sonic is untouchable, because he's not portrayed as cool because he's a cocky jerk with superpowers- he's cool because he's a real freedom fighter and keeps getting back up. It's a more realistic character who really reminds me of getting Game Over in Sonic 1 and still pressing start for a new game right after.
One thing i think bothers me most is that despite the references Sonic acts like a Sonic, but not exactly like THE Sonic from the games, like you said, dissonance between this and Sonic Heroes for instance. But the thing that is weirdest to me actually is how Sonic acts like he's almost never been in a city when he HAS been in many, just found that sorta weird. Also the fact that Green Hill is established as the deafult location is a tad strange, but I can roll with it The show is still great though in my opinion, very very enjoyable!!! And I'm going to paraphrase someone I know named Dr. Mechano here: if the show really is supposed to be canon I think we as well as some people on the inside know of the weird stuff between this show and the games, so let's just treat is as loosely canon and not litearly canon I just think thatd be for the best
I just turned off the TV as of finishing the series right now, and I swear I will find and throw hands at anyone who says the animation sucks. I was nearly left jawdropping at how astonishing the animation is!!!! Especially with the glitch-ish effects they do with the shoes/the crystals. It’s just crazy!!!!!! Seriously the animators deserve all the credit and recognition they can get!
10:37-11:04 Aside from Deven Mack this show, has all Vancouver voice talent alumni from MLP FiM. Including Deven all of them were in Dragalia Lost, which is now lost in the video game ether. Tails is voiced by Ashleigh Ball, who was Rainbow Dash and Applejack and other incidental voices, Amy is voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent who was Silver Spoon and Pinkie Pie's usual singing voice, Rogue is voiced by Kazumi Evans who was popular show characters including Octavia Melody and Moondancer and Adagio Dazzle from Equestria Girls as well as Rarity's singing voice, Shadow is voiced by Ian Hanlin who was Sunburst and various incidentals, Eggman prime and old Eggman are voiced by Brian Drummond who was many characters on MLP including Mr. Cake, and the other three Eggman plus alternate universe Knuckles are voiced by Vincent Tong who was many characters including Featherbangs, Garble and Flash Sentry from Equestria Girls.
Also gonna add that this isn’t the first time that Vincent Tong and Deven Mack worked together: Earlier this year (heck the last 2 years roughly) both of them voiced characters in the show Lego Ninjago (this year it was Ninjago Crystalized) and Deven voiced Skull Sourcerer and Vincent voiced Kai (and a few others but mostly Kai)
Great job with making the video on Sonic Prime Shattered My Expectations also can you make a video talking about the smurfs 2021 cartoon Season 1 and also may be updated review on Season 2?
It's a bit odd for a show to start off with this kind of premise rather than something done later in after establishing itself. Still it mostly works so far, although New Yolk feels far more thought out than the other universes we saw. We'll have to wait and see ? number of months to see where it goes from here.
My best guess is that we get 1 more shatterspace, and Shadow might be a new character to come along Sonic for some of the Shatterspaces, perhaps even as opponent against Rusty Rose
I feel like Netflix release schedule hurts the pacing of this show. Prime was written as a 24 episode season, so the plot moves rather slowly in just eight episodes.
I'm loving the show. I hope we end up getting a mario series next. Especially a crash bandicoot one. Crash is the most cartoony out of the three and has yet to come out with a cartoon. Activision needs to get it together.
Love the video, but I've spent weeks trying to keep everything Sonic Frontiers related out of my sight for when I actually play the game. Yet, you gave no spoilers warning and just revealed a whole name drop that links the IDW comics and the game together. Now I just know that, it won't be a "wait, I know that character" moment.
10:53 You do realize Season 1 is still going, right? And that this was just Act 1? No really. The first season is 24 episodes dropped in 3 segments of 8 episodes. The season AIN'T OVER.
As someone who is a sucker for multiverse stuff, I do really enjoy this show. Also anytime Shadow is being used by something other than “lol brooding edgeman” I’m game. And it seems like he’s going to have an actual good role in season 2, so I’m excited. Of course, all the series has to do at this point for me to not want to scream is be somewhat enjoyable. God I’m so happy we got Frontiers. That was such a good game.
The Daniel Spellbound name drop was so funny to me cuz I haven’t heard a single world spoken about it at all. Even though it was a pretty fun and easy watch
Although we didn’t see much of Shadow I really like the direction their going with his character. I understand why Rouge was put with the main cast but I was hoping she was paired up with Shadow as a set up for Team Dark. I don’t really feel like her personality matches well with the Sonics crew since she was more of an anti hero and she seemed really toned down in order to fit in although I do like that her and knuckles interact more.
As someone who doesn't really consider himself a Sonic fan (I have fun playing some of the more recent games except Frontiers, struggle to enjoy anything pre-Colors that isn't Rush, find the 2 films a bit boring, and enjoy watching some of the old cartoons) Sonic Prime is an absolute blast from beginning to end. I love the writing a lot and the action scenes are extremely exciting to watch, which is all I really want from this show. I hope we get more from this team after the 24 episodes are out.
The show is actually really good. IDC what anyone else thinks. My son is 3 and loves it, I'm 24 and loved sonic x and all the games growing up, and I feel like they did a great job with this. The story for prime feels more real for a sonic title, sonic x just kinda felt repetitive and too farfetched. Also did you really point rouge not having cleavage as a negative even though it's a kids show in the end? Just because it fits all ages doesn't mean it shouldnt be family friendly. They already did a bunch of redesigns so why not.
The only complaint I have about Sonic Prime is how the fight scenes feel like a kid playing with their Sonic action figures. "Sonic knocks them down! Then they get back up, then they get knocked down again!" The fight at pirate world is the worst offender of this.
There are five settings not four. Sunken hill, New Yoke City, The Forest and the Grim. I think there will be another one in future episodes, because if you look closely off five prism colors are in different shatter spaces
I thought the 8-bit portrayal of Tails/Nine's backstory was well done enough, but once the sprites started bantering in the Knuckles flashback it all fell apart. I legitimately thought to myself, "Didn't Dorkly figure out how to do this a decade ago or something?" Though, I never was aware that the former scene is connected to Sonic Origins. I looked at the bullies and thought "ah, yes, typical Sonic Prime extras"
If you told me three years ago that the Halo franchise would become the new Sonic 2006 and Shadow The Hedgehog, and that Sonic as a franchise with Sonic Frontiers, Generations, Mania and Prime would bring the franchise Sonic 70% back to Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 levels of quality and excellence I would have laughed in your face! I’ve never been so overjoyed and clinically depressed simultaneously before.
5:05 and this connects with the fact EVERYONE has been writing Amy as Sally in official games beside that, i think the series is pretty fun and the constant flashback joke never gets old but Netflix realising batch of episodes is... ugh
There are only Eggmans in one universe maybe because they are all from different universes and they gathered in one. Shadow escaped the shard explosion, but the rest of them didn't so I guess that explains it.
Well. I all honesty I was disappointed when I learned this series was not "Sonic meets all his past versions" like Spiderman. But after finishing the last of all the available episodes I'm pretty satisfied a looking forward the next ones. What kind of universe will he travel in? A wild west universe where Knuckles wears his cowboy hat again? A transylvanian universe where Rouge is a vampire, Tails is a kitsune and Amy is grim reaper with a sickle instead of a hammer? A human universe where Sonic looks like his human version in that famous old picture? A Rule 63 universe where everyone, including Sonic, has their gender inverted? A retro universe where all the characters looks like their original concept arts and Sonic is a rabbit? The possibilities are endless. One thing is for sure: The next universes will be focused on Rouge and on Big.
That completely makes sense. Also Rogue is probably going to get an arc along with Shadow in Season 2.

This is amazing. I had no idea the gif has such deep lore. Thank you for watching! Was not expecting to ever meet the person behind the gif.
Orbot in Sonic Boom predicted the future! 😱
Absolutely loved it! The fights were unexpected hype!

Considering how prisms work and the fact that Shadow said how "home does not exist anymore." I'd say it is the most likely scenario.
I really like the show so far, especially the fight scenes. Those are really impressive
Bro, Sonic Underground was so good even if it was just a spin-off. Like holy crap.
I love how you refer to the boring scene in the second Sonic movie as a bathroom break, because that's exactly what I use it for!
Well that's prime.
That was *fast*
@@doctorspiders right place right time I guess
My two problems with this show is that the pirate and jungle world were kinda generic, and the same characters every time. There’s no reason we can’t go crazy here and do concepts like What if Chaos won, or why can’t Mighty or blaze show up for example.
Jungle universe felt like a side quest in a video game, aside from Amy there was no relevance or anything that stood out the episodes that took place there.
@@FanSeitz And the Flicky replaced with a chocobo.
Idk why they act like they can’t touch the adventure lore it’s annoying lol if this is GAME SONIC i want GAME LORE
Sonic Prime is so full of action and fight scenes, one my favorite aspects of the show
God this was such a great sonic cartoon! Sonic has been awesome this year
I knew New Yoke City was giving me Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension vibes!
Also the fact that Green Hill is established as the deafult location is a tad strange, but I can roll with it
The show is still great though in my opinion, very very enjoyable!!! And I'm going to paraphrase someone I know named Dr. Mechano here: if the show really is supposed to be canon I think we as well as some people on the inside know of the weird stuff between this show and the games, so let's just treat is as loosely canon and not litearly canon
I just think thatd be for the best
I hope they get a season two. I think they will be able to do more when they are sure they will get more.
I doubt they ordered just one season.
@@Raximus3000 fuck netflix.
Wow some of my favorite va’s from a show I watched with my sister then watched on my own when I realized when good it was.
Also gonna add that this isn’t the first time that Vincent Tong and Deven Mack worked together:
Earlier this year (heck the last 2 years roughly) both of them voiced characters in the show Lego Ninjago (this year it was Ninjago Crystalized) and Deven voiced Skull Sourcerer and Vincent voiced Kai (and a few others but mostly Kai)
@@moonbased7796 Yup that's true, and Vincent is a big part of Ninjago.
Shattered like crystals, so fire it melts ice, so good it sends sonic booms.
Same here, the future is looking amazing for Sonic fans
Great job with making the video on Sonic Prime Shattered My Expectations also can you make a video talking about the smurfs 2021 cartoon Season 1 and also may be updated review on Season 2?
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU PASS ON THAT?! A Sonic Mania show would've been fantastic
*My favorite part of Sonic Prime is the free, 2-day shipping!*
the grapes. ARE delicious. so true knuckles
3 seasons it is then🫥
Because that’s what it feels like and I multiplied of 8
I'm loving the show. I hope we end up getting a mario series next. Especially a crash bandicoot one. Crash is the most cartoony out of the three and has yet to come out with a cartoon. Activision needs to get it together.
Fun fact: Knuckles has 2 voice actors, one for Prime Knuckles and another for the the Shatter Space Knuckles'es.
Not even 15 seconds in, and I discovered that Nick has a letterboxd account, that I now follow
cross-promotion babyyyyy
10:53 You do realize Season 1 is still going, right? And that this was just Act 1?
No really. The first season is 24 episodes dropped in 3 segments of 8 episodes. The season AIN'T OVER.
I do. Netflix calls the first 8 episodes Season. 1 so that’s what I called it for the sake of simplicity.
The amount of flashbacks in this series destroyed my brain, nonetheless its amazing and I LOVE the use of angles
Love your sonic videos. Hope to see you cover the next batch of episodes when they release!
This show is amazing can’t wait to see season 2 ❤🎉
So we had the Future World (New Yoke City), the Pirate World and the Jungle world so far
Omg that hutsumi miko reference
Well this sure is pretty rad and I'm excited to watch this.
Also this video was pretty dope :)
I just assumed that silver and blaze probably are shattered too, but are in the future of the shatter spaces-
“Maybe I’ll cover the old Archie comics.”
Good freaking luck.
Although we didn’t see much of Shadow I really like the direction their going with his character. I understand why Rouge was put with the main cast but I was hoping she was paired up with Shadow as a set up for Team Dark. I don’t really feel like her personality matches well with the Sonics crew since she was more of an anti hero and she seemed really toned down in order to fit in although I do like that her and knuckles interact more.
jeez sega needs to take a break im worried about them at this point
I also can't stop but hearing Knux sounding like Rapheal from TMNT.
This reminds me so much of the recent spongebob game, and I feel disturbed.
I hope we get more from this team after the 24 episodes are out.
i laughed so loud at tails get trolled joke
Grapes
Don't let the Jungle world see them
The crew will bite you
the Grapes, are delicious
Something to point out is Gamma the Flicky being in this
I'll wait when the rest of the eps release
The show is actually really good. IDC what anyone else thinks. My son is 3 and loves it, I'm 24 and loved sonic x and all the games growing up, and I feel like they did a great job with this. The story for prime feels more real for a sonic title, sonic x just kinda felt repetitive and too farfetched. Also did you really point rouge not having cleavage as a negative even though it's a kids show in the end? Just because it fits all ages doesn't mean it shouldnt be family friendly. They already did a bunch of redesigns so why not.
12:06 bro what happened tosonic in the back💀
I love how Tails becomes Dr. Octopus
It sure is an awesome show. I love it. It’s awesome
Bro hopefully Sonic reunites with his friends at some point I don’t want every season or episode to be sonic going through every shard
Glad that Sonic is finally stepping outside of "the norm" for his type of media.
I remember watching the freedom fighters series as a kid, shame it's not on Netflix anymore.
Man i wanted blaze as well also the gekko
I prefer rouge's old voice tbh she doesn't feel like rouge in this new season.
She does and a whole lot better
I'm hoping for more episodes I truly enjoy
I would have liked to see more of South Island.
finally the greenhill sweeeeeep
That mario gif was so good
It just Came out on December 15!!!!!
I thought the 8-bit portrayal of Tails/Nine's backstory was well done enough, but once the sprites started bantering in the Knuckles flashback it all fell apart. I legitimately thought to myself, "Didn't Dorkly figure out how to do this a decade ago or something?"
Though, I never was aware that the former scene is connected to Sonic Origins. I looked at the bullies and thought "ah, yes, typical Sonic Prime extras"
"Whoa, what are these?" Do you mean....what are thoooooooooose?
If you told me three years ago that the Halo franchise would become the new Sonic 2006 and Shadow The Hedgehog, and that Sonic as a franchise with Sonic Frontiers, Generations, Mania and Prime would bring the franchise Sonic 70% back to Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 levels of quality and excellence I would have laughed in your face!
I’ve never been so overjoyed and clinically depressed simultaneously before.
Maybe someone should make a review on Mixels. That would be fun
I can finally hear what Shadow is saying
5:05 and this connects with the fact EVERYONE has been writing Amy as Sally in official games
beside that, i think the series is pretty fun and the constant flashback joke never gets old but Netflix realising batch of episodes is...
5:33 FURRIES EVERYWHERE IN SONIC.
Sonic -Prime- : Shattered Dimensions
This show will sell one green hillillion dollars
0:06 No you didn't!!! 😂
Idk if Shattered was a pun to reference the name of the first episode. But if it was then it was a witty one indeed.
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, Amy, Shadow, Big and Gamma's Soul Birdie? Someone here is fan of the Adventure cast
Good catch! Even green hill zone was in SA2, it all fits.
How. Puke you forget froggy and eggman lol
Hi Nick! Are You Still Working On FOP Retrospective Part 3 With A Team? I Think You Would Be Great At Covering Later Seasons & Live Action Movies.
