But that was not how it was used. Tactics is a strength or weakness of ships design as well. In this case the fighters could do nothing to defend the Venator's weak spots as the Jedi's tactics was to face palm the Separatist's fleets with this ship which was a job the more suited for the Victory class star destroyer.
The venator was so miss used. It was a carrier, not a frontline ship. It was designed to support from the back with its enormous fighter count and take out enemy fighters with its large array of point defence lasers. The Victory or the Acclamator would server as better front line ships then the Venator.
Geetsly: There was nothing this ship couldn't do as the acclamator's armor is strong enough against the CIS warship. In EAW vanilla: gets rekt by rebel starships.
Aren’t they pushing twenty years old at that point and the Alliance are using starfighters primarily designed in the years after the end of the Clone Wars? The Y-Wing is the only ship of a similar age the Alliance used and they had them stripped to the bone and upgraded compared to the Republic’s Y-Wings. Edit: In the new cannon there’s been only one post-Clone Wars Acclamator, the _Lodestar_ under Hera Syndulla. The _Lodestar_ was destroyed over Troithe in the novel _Shadowfall_ trying to hold off an Imperial Star Destroyer. The _Edict_ and her flight of TIE fighters pinned down the _Lodestar_ and she broke up. Troithe’s planetary defences brought down the _Edict_ and she crashed into the planetary shield, destroying it.
Thing is the Venators "weakspot" was almost NEVER exploited. The big ventral hanger never opened when it went into direct combat, instead before being within range of any Seperatist ships, it would release its fighters and then engage once the hangar was closed. I don't think we've ever seen any Venators fall due to this "weakness" and instead lose from overwhelming enemy firepower, superweapons, incompetent leaders, sabotage or Anakin breaking fhe Geneva convention
Besides, do you see how thick those hanger doors are? From the shots inside the hanger as the doors are closing or from the outside as they are open they have to be several meters thick at least. I think people focus on the big open doors so much because there aren't many other major problems that haven't been talked to death about as it's a Kuat design. The exposed Command Towers, the lack of heavy guns on the ventral hull, the criminal lack of point-defense guns... you get my point. Hell the Harrower-class Dreadnought from the Old Republic actually does have said 'Massive weakness' considering its primary hanger is only protected by the armored prongs of the ships prow and open directly into space.
@@geraldapollyon655 the only weakness the Venator had was 1. Being used as a Frontline ship , like a cruiser or battleship , while it was a carrier , a very good and independent carrier with armour and weapons 2. It didn't have Superior Starfighters except the Y wings , imagine if it had X wings , A wings , fock , imagine.a Venator with atleast a 100 B Wings , the Imperials would surrender immediately and throw a red carpet for the Rebel pilots to land , V 19 torrents , Z 95s were very ,good Starfighters , but Not against the swarms of advanced droid Starfighters only the V wings , as a swarm could counter the enemy swarm , and that too , they didn't have hyperdrive (palpatine escort v wings had hyperdrive) so the Venator had to jump in system instead of like , Sending it's 200-409 Starfighters with Corvettes , Arquitens and some SAR shuttles
I quite love the acclamator. It was the second ship shown in the prequel trilogy. It’s an underdog of the republic navy. Plus I like calling it a weaponized Dorito.
The Victory-class series of ships scare the shit out of me. Not only can they hold their own against must larger vessels for a good bit of time - their firepower is uncanny. Plus, due to their smaller size relative to most capital ships, even the Victory-1 can output more firepower than larger vessels in a more versatile fashion. They scary.
The Republic Venator won the Clone Wars for the Republic Navy, and while the Victory Class Star Destroyer kick so much ass that the Galactic Empire led the design for all future Star Destroyers within its Navy, but the Venator capacity to carry so many Star Fighters within its hangers allowed the Republic Navy to match the innumerable CIS droid fighters in pitch battles. The Venators were also able to operate by themselves deep within enemy territory, and do so many deep strikes in Confederacy’s territory that it prove vital for the continue fighting against a innumerable droid armies that the Republic was facing.
I agree and I think it's unfair to say they weren't used right. Because if the other ships were used right they would have been defending the Venators thereby forcing it's proper use. So when it isn't used right none of them are. It seems like a cheap way of knocking the Venator.
well not exactly. palpatines influence won the war for the republic navy. i love the venator but it was used improperly by the republic navy. it should have been used as a dedicated carrier along side victory classes acting as the battle ships but instead the venator was used as both a carrier and battle ship. because of this the cis navy heavily outmatched the republics navy and the republic navy would have fallen if it was not for the inane industrial capacity of the core worlds pumping out ships faster than the cis could destroy them, remember the core worlds had correllia, kuat, rendilli, and mon calamari just to name a few on their side. their ship building power far surpassed that of the cis. and palpatines influence. again i dont think this is the venators fault as it is an excellently designed ship. rather its the republics fault for using the venator as a battle ship instead of using it as a dedicated carrier in conjunction with the victory classes. hell you could have scrapped the acclimator line all together had they done that since venators are more than capable enough of transporting and landing troops/vehicles on planets thanks to their large array of gunships and walkers they carry. not as good at it as an acclimator mind you but more than capable enough.
I second you cant handle my name! If the victory was in play it would have supplemented the venator. Even without the victory if you used acclimators and arquitens to keep a decent front line supported by a venator it would have been 10x better than 3 venators for a planetary strike force. Plus once you've dealt with a blockade you can then move the arquitens to ferry supplies/troops/and other objective based items to parts of the planet that need support but dont need a whole venator. Also please excuse what I assume is awful spelling for these ships
For me the victory class will always be my favorite star destroyer type ship.smaller and more economic than its larger cousin yet still has immense fire power and presence
As someone who played TIE Fighter, I always hated fighting Victories far more than ISD's. Their dual concussion missile launchers could cover each other, making it effectively impossible to defang it from range with your own warheads. The ISD in the game only had a single warhead launcher in the nose, but the two flanking the bridge of the Victory were a royal pain in the butt.
I think the Arquitens is insanely underrated. Yes on paper it was “undergunned”, but if you look into it that wasn’t true at all- it simply had an efficient gun layout. Looking at the design, the Arquitens had a very effective firing arc for a Star Wars ship at all angles (besides behind) and all the guns were on turrets, unlike those of the nebulon b you compared it to. That means it could bring all its guns to bear on a forward facing target instead of risking a broadside so you could fire merely ~40% of your guns at an enemy. There’s a reason this ship was used from the start of the clone wars to the end of the empire.
There's a reason RL ships went for less and less guns as time went on. The Arquitens was a screening and patrol vessel, it didn't need to fire at all times in all directions. It needed to outmanouvre larger foes, hunt down and focus on its weight class, provide high resolution sensor data etcetera.
To be fair, the Arquitens does fulfillsl its role as a "picket ship" or a light cruiser. It was never meant to be the frontline capital ship anyways. That was for the larger ships : )
I'd add proton torpedoes , ton of them , and a starfighter hanger somewhere external , like on the engines behind the Bridge with 12 or 24 Tie Defenders and Scimitar assault bombers , it should focus on anti capital ships while it's ties focus on star fighters,
The Republic fleets had ships that were designed to fit a specific role in the fleet. Acclamators were unstoppable on their way to planetside to deploy thousands of troops and heavy walkers, and provide heavy turboloader fire support vs CIS Tanks. Venators with their fighters/bombers could knock out repurposed CIS Freighter Battleships before they are even in range of their guns.
The issue is Thrawn is the only one in star wars smart enough to use a mixed fleet with multiroll ships. I mean seriously the Jedi treat the Venator like an attack ship and they don't even do it smart and go broad side but instead gun the engines and go face forward limiting the amount of guns that can fire. As for the imperials well one of thrawns idiot subordinates took an interdictor suport ship our of formation to use it like an ISD and charge the rebel fleet. And the rebels sure they use a mixed fleet but not because there smart but because all they have is random shit.
The issue is simple: they didn't have a diverse fleet. They did not have the dozens or hundreds of new, yet throughly tested, solid designs, a true Navy would need in war. They had patrol cruisers with more guns bolted on, ludicrously upscaled troop transports with more guns bolted on, and finally what were most definitely designed as faster Lucrehulks, mobile patrol bases to hunt down pirates. Ships take years to design, and the Republic had to take what little they had available, mass produce it, and hope it held the line long enough for proper warships to be designed. Without Palpatine manipulations, they wouldn't have lasted long enough either.
@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 They did though. They had the Venator, Acclimator I and II, Consular, Arquitens, Victory I and II, CR90, Dreadnaught, Pelta... They had a ton of different ships.
It's sort of a reflection of WWII and modern carrier groups; after the U.S. Pacific fleet was mostly wiped out and things turned to an island-hopping land war, all they had left were aircraft carriers and little to no combat support ships... But that, some really good strategy, and lucking out on a Zero crashing mostly intact in the Aleutians to finally give accurate info on what their fighters needed to be capable of, was enough to bring the fight all the way across the ocean. At least until some of the ships that were being constructed were finished and hauled ass to join up with them. At that point they barely even engaged in direct ship to ship combat anymore, battleships became more of artillery batteries for the island wars. The issue is that aircraft carriers back then could become essentially useless for potentially days with the right targeted strikes to the flight deck, just like how the Venator's giant dorsal hatch, one of its biggest advantages, was also its weakness. I think the best sort of carrier group the Republic could have would be like 3 Venators acting as dedicated carriers, 3-4 Acclamators modified with a mix of at least interceptor or escort fighter bays and troop space to be able to play the rolls of frigates or destroyers (in naval terms, not SDs) and still act as assault cruisers, a Victory to act like a battleship, handling artillery and missile bombardment, plus additional anti-starfighter support, and a couple Arquitens acting as skirmishy light cruisers/corvettes for ambushing pincer movements and transporting specialized units quickly and quietly. Perhaps with some escort fighters that could handle being out with them alone for a while, like some dedicated ARC-170's that hitch rides with other carriers when back in the main group.
But I think the Republic should have invested in even more advanced starfighters. for example the V-wing is a great design and is priced at 120,000 credits, maybe if the republic had invested more money in interceptor fighters or fighter-bombers that are not slow like the ARC-170, maybe the republic would be even better.
@@Imporridge *Same.* For the longest time, I thought the Acclamator had no guns or very limited side guns and that it was mainly a transport and nothing more. It wasn't until I started watching a few channels like this one and "Spacedock" that I suddenly learned that *it outgunned the fucking Venator.* 🤯 *My mind was just BLOWN when I learned that.* Them Kaminoans knew what they were doing when they employed this ABSOLUTE UNIT as the Republic Navy's very first ship!
Woo! Love the Acclimator! Had an idea for a modified version that replaces all internal storage space with a large hospital ship setup. A small fleet of them could serve as a hospital station that could run away when attacked, with combat ships staying behind to buy time. Or they could land on a planet to do relief work. Hell, with their massive fuel capacity (able to travel the length of the galaxy twice on one tank!) they could provide power to huge swaths of land devastated by war and disaster.
In defense of the Venator it’s hangars and other openings could be used by republic tanks, like how they used artillery tank and the laser tank in revenge of the sith and the laser especially was shown to be quite powerful
*And this is another testament as to why my "dream/go-to" fleet would have Acclamators and Victories as it's core (with then a number of support ships). Wonderful video. Thanks lots.*
The Acclamator class and Victory class ships will always be my personal favorite cruisers. I would definitely have them as troop carriers or the back bone of my fleet, if I commanded one. Also they can be used as cargo ships as well. But that's just my opinion.
If the Republic wasn't so concerned with purely spamming venators I'd say the best star destroyer would be a combined fleet of all such vessels, Acclamators and Arquitens forming a screen while Victory Is and IIs cover Venators in the rear. Often a single ship is no more useful than the sum of its parts. Something the CIS and later New Republic (legends) was keenly aware of.
Yeah, you don't make a fleet out of pure carriers. Just imagine, each ship covering each other weaknesses on a combined fleet. you know, just like we do irl with real combined fleets.
I agree, the Republic shouldn't have been so quick to switch production over to just Venators...as fantastic as that ship is, they need the Acclamators, because logistics is what wins them the war. If they need a pure warship, the Victory-class could shine, given appropriate engines (Victory II-class rectified this issue)
The first Tector or Imperator star destroyer landing in between a CIS formation with a fock ton of V wings (400) for fighter cover from a off system venator ISD: Hello Mothafockers , I wish you a very bad day , starting now (turbolaser pew pew noises intensify) CIS fleet : What the Fock , what the fock , Aaaæægghh-&aaa
I like that the Arquitens-class command cruiser was a thing, giving the hull a second life under the empire in an upgraded vessel and a role that suited it. That it managed to be one of the last of these vessels produced for service proves that there was value in the design, even if it wasn't instantly apparent.
this misuses of space ships only makes me realize how genius Palpatine actually was. He placed bad ships on both sides to be good enough to prolong the war, but be bad enough so they don't make one side win easily, making each side needing new allies, expend more money and, eventually, the banking clan falling in the hands of the republican/soon to be empire
I love how in-depth you go into each of these core ships! It truly gives one more respect and an appreciation for the battle tactics of the clone wars than one already had! You should do more stuff analyzing the best core vehicles in the same format as this; not just the capital ships and not just the vehicles of the clone wars!
“While I was in between some tasks, we used one of those Consular-class cruisers, one that wouldn’t be assumed to be a target in The grand scheme of the Navy. It seems like the light armament was a liability when we got attacked while I was getting transferred back to my unit in the 442nd after helping support with some odd wetwork in the middle of unknown space, collecting information about hyper space lanes near the unknown regions. These operations were actually pretty extensive, utilizing a large amount of probes as well as these ships. I don’t know how they found us, but they caught us off guard so fast, we weren’t particularly able to identify who attacked. Despite losing my arm, my eye, and half of my brain, they had me back in a month after I got a prosthetic arm, a prosthetic eye, a whole lot of bacta and some therapy, but things always felt weird after that. I suppose I literally still carry pieces of that ship wherever I go.” -CS/CT-8711-12 “Cheng”, Former Captain and Scout of the 442nd Siege Battalion
I love how you narrowed it down and explained everything so well. I love the visuals too. This video was so awesome. I can’t wait to check out the one about the CIS next. I think this was very accurate for what the ships could offer.
It's spelled with an a (Acclamator) - that means "one who expresses loud or enthusiastic approval to welcome or honor something". It's more of a sign of really vocal, undying loyalty, which shows in its weapons and complement.
Tbh, Victory was a good start at better, legitimate ship-to-ship Star Destroyers. And the Acclamator was easily refitted if needed, so even if the base design doesn't have fighters, they have Venators for that specific reason.
My only problem with the acclamator is that during the siege of ryloth one got shot down with one shot of a ground canon that was basically a high powered tank. Like, every laser battery and missile on a proper battleship or even lesser craft would be more than capable of delivering that kind of firepower.
I wouldn't call the arquitens undergunned really. Two broadside twin turbolasers and a pair of missile tubes per side against captial ships and the well laid out quad lasercannon turrets for all round "AA" seem like a lot for the size. it's just a bit of everything, great for an escort or patrol cruiser but maybe a bit wasted in a battle line.
When I saw the venator I fell in love with the design, look, and use. I did notice that it was basically always fighting above its weight class and intended purpose. Also why were the republic ship so crew heavy? Weren't droids a thing to help with managing the ship.
there you have your answer also the droid hatred of the OT distrusted heavily droids . also the CIS probably had several tries to take over republic ships that way
@@laisphinto6372 You know what that's fair. I can see how easy it would be to have a couple of droids take over or cripple a ship. They still used droids tho. Also plenty of times bording droids still took over ships so I kinda feel that it was pointless.
I would just like to mention he pointed out how the big hanger going down the middle of the venator was terrible but he forgot to mention the acclamator had the same hanger. Saying that though, I do agree the victory class star destroyer would have done a much better job as a frontline ship. I don't think it ever even appears in the clone wars show.
I would like to put the Imperator-class Star Destroyer (aka the Imperial-I) in the list as an honorable mention. It’s like everything you’d love about the Victory-class, but bigger and more powerful. There’s a good reason the later Galactic Empire used this as their mainline battleship over the Venator.
i wonder if the republic had a dedicated flak barge. a ship dedicated to preventing fighter and bombercraft that is covered head to toe in point defense and light-medium turbolaser turrets.
Few issues- First off, I think you might be overestimating the combat abilities of the Acclimator. All the lore I’ve ever seen indicates that it was only good in direct combat with some specialized refits, and without that it was highly vulnerable in capital ship combat. Second I think the Victory 2 only came out after the Empire
I honestly think you got it wrong, because the Acclamator could only carry starfighters at the expense of its primary mission. It was superb in its primary role a troop carrier and maybe was a good starfighter carrier when configured as such, but it could not do both at once. The Victory was a powerful brawler that could still carry a respectable number of starfighters, and didn't have to be modified / sacrifice its primary role to do so. It was the most versatile by far.
I feel like I say this a lot but I'm gonna do it again. The Venator doesn't need heavy arms when it has an air force of fighters and bombers on board. The small craft act as it's weapons and shields when used right I know someone will say it wasn't used properly and that's true, but also applies to the rest of the ships. If they were used properly then the Venator would have been used properly as well because they would have been protecting it from enemy ships. So the Venator still wins for me. Basically a Venator can win a battle alone with it's fighters but a Victory or Acculamtor can't beat the Venator. As the almost 200 fighters it deploys will wreck them. And while not as tough, the Venator is tough enough to last through the fight and help break the enemy with it's few cannons.
@@angelic_disappointment7889lmao ,no remember the phantom when 1 kid in a starfighter annihilated an entire neimodian warship ... The only good CIS ship was the malevolent and its peers, but the rest were mid ,the planet looking warship was terrible junk
@@nightlord8756 anytime the republic fleet is going up against anything other than munificents they get outright butt-fucked, keep riding that clone train though 😂🤡
I feel that each of these ships weren't meant to fight alone, kinda like modern real life ships, each ship serves a prepose, and when put together, they form one of the best fighting group, the Victory being the equivalent of a battleship, the Venator a carrier, the Acclamator a troop transport, and the Arquitens a Cruiser, the ships are used in those roles fairly often as well on screen, just that the Victory-class hadn't been really concepted, so they had to use the Venator for that.
If you think about it, once the Victory Class was out, you'd have a solid core fleet. Acclimator's refit for from being transports at all to being heavy hitters that still have the speed to hit and run while Starfighters and Arquiten's ran escort on them, preventing them from being overwhelmed by any enemy ships fast enough to keep up with them, then the Starfighters stay behind to waylay and destroy some enemy craft before returning to home. And if the enemy tried anything to assault their Venator's, the Venator has some of the fastest sublight engines around and powerful hyperdrives so it can outrun a lot and get out of dodge when it needs to, not that it would with the Victory 1's you've kept in reserve due to their slower speed puppy guarding the home base for all those irritating Starfighters. This would have been a very bad day for even the best CIG fleets in my less then humble opinion.
1:34-1:39: Oh there were Acclemators present at the Second Battle of Geonosis. I kind of never noticed that despite how many times I watch that episode. Now in my defense, at a distance, they look very similar to Ventors. Still, now I wonder how many other important battles they were at. I also wonder if I should have included some in all those Clone Wars fanfics I wrote. 2:35-2:39: Wait, those Light Cruisers come in blue!? Yes, I love blue, it's my favorite color, that makes up for their less than impressiveness when compared to the Acclemator. I've always been a Ventor fan, but the Acclemator is a very close second, followed by the Arcatens, then lastly the Victory Star Destroys sure there cool with all that artillery but there to similar to Imperial Star Destroys for my liking and I'm loyal to the Republic to the end so I can't favor these Victory ships too much despite all they've got going for them.
The Republic should have invested in Star Dreadnoughts like The Pride Of The Core to be the frontline ships supported by Light Cruisers and Acclamators while the Venator sits behind the battle supporting the line ships with Starfighters and etc.
5:26 It's armor was thick, and its shields were... Gimli: Broad? Geetsly: Extremely Powerful. Gimli: *Smashes this channel like he tried to do to The Ring with his axe* This is no rabble of teethless Venators, THESE ARE VICTORYS! Their armor is thick, their shields BROAD!
I really loved the Acclimator class ship, being pretty heavily armored, having a fast hyperdrive, able to land directly on ground for troop embarkation/disembarking operations. The Venator really only needed a little more amor on its bottom side & more resilient shields to fend off incoming enemy fire. The Venator's heavy crew requirements would be needed for the starfighter pilots, fighter craft maintenance, main ship gunnery & engine crew, etc.. The Victory class was cool, especially in facing off against other capital warships.
Not sure I woulda put the Acclamator in the top spot as easily. Yes it has all the aforementioned- except firepower. 12 Quad Turbolasers are nothing to sneeze at yeah, but is far outstripped by even the Muunificent. The Venator was only as widely used because its 8 Heavy DBY-827 Turbolasers not only had punch but also longevity; meaning it is able to throw down continuous amounts of fire without burning up as quick. Not to mention it’s supported with its 2 Medium Turbolasers and AV-7 Broadside cannons. It may not be as armed as the Victory (which would have been number 1 for me) but it was far more armed than the Acclamator with just the Heavy Turbolasers. And it’s weakness is only a weakness when the shields go down. Otherwise, the Ventral hangar for launching fighters is fine.
The Venator really shines brightest when it can just hang back and fart out a gorillion starfighters, but the fact that it could operate in multiple other roles with a substantial degree of competency is a point in its favor rather than against it. As for the Arquitens, there is something to be said about a speedy interdiction ship that can keep fighting way after most other light vessels have been knocked out of commission. Yes, it is undergunned, but it wasn't going to brawl with a Providence anyway - it's weaponry is perfectly fine for protecting a Venator by shredding bombers, corvettes and the like.
The Venator always rubbed me wrong. If you look at it straight on 6:11 , it looks like Jar Jar. Thanks for the detailed information. I'm always impressed with all the work you do. 👍
So, from what I've seen from various channels and discussions a more ideal Republic Navy would be built around one to three Victory Class Star Destroyers (depending on the size of the engagement) with a mix of standard and carrier versions of the Acclimator as escort/support with possibly some Arquitens and/or some C-70 Chargers working as wolf-packs with some of the starfighter wings to wreck enemy starfighters as well as finish off any injured vessels or use their superior sub-light speeds to cut off their retreat. Would probably do away with most of the ARC-170's as well only keeping a few around to scout out systems before the main fleet arrives or to shadow the enemy to co-ordinate ambushes etc.
Task Group Plan (all tech possible): 2 or 4 Acclimators for general purpose. Equip 1 or 2 with gravity well generators, 1 as a fighter carrier. 1 Vic I as an 'I will end you' ship. 4 'Arquitens/Lancer hybrids', with their heavier guns supplemented by 10-20 quad cannon for anti-starfighter duty. 0-1 Venators. I think they're the prettiest, but unless you need a massive starfighter carrier, they're not worth the effort. -Arquitens & Acclimators decant from hyperspace for an engagement, deploy fighters and begin the slug-fest. -After opponents begin to cluster around the group, power up the gravity generator. -Victory is waiting just outside the system. It sees the new gravity mass, powers up weapons, and jumps at it. -The Victory pulls a Thrawn, emerges from hyperspace in spitting distance of the enemy, and annihilates them. -Proceed on your merry way.
*looks at thumbnail* Doesn't the Acclamator have fighters and gunships in its arsenal? (Says so at 2:02.) Anyways, I kinda prefer the Victory. Cluster missile spam potential, for one reason.
What I've noticed is that republic ships usually specialize in a role of which they excel at but are made flexible enough that they can take on secondary roles if need be, albeit with less effectives then a specialized ship. 1# Venator Your carrier but can also fill the role as a capital ship if need be 2# Victory Your frontline combat ship but it's missile swarms can also screen fighters 3# Imperator Your command ship but can function as a heavy destroyer 4# Arquitens Your corvette hunter and harasser 5# Carrack Your gunship/fighter screener ( since it has 2 loadouts ) 6# Gladiator Your escort cruiser 7# Mandator Your dreadnought 8# Praetor Your battleship 9# C70 Your corvette and fighter screener 10# Acclamator Invasion/landing ship but can function as a heavy cruiser and fire support ship. Put them together in a combined fleet and your have a very effective and efficient fighting force. All in all the Republics naval doctrine was pretty solid and if you take all the ships above and put them together in a fleet you'd have a pretty solid fleet with no real notable weakness's. I'd also argue that the fighter craft of the republic make up for a lack of firepower given that that a large majority of the republics fightercraft were pretty heavily armed.
The venator deployed it's star fighters before it was in battle, this allowed the star fighters to give it protection. Also as we see Ahsoka defend against this weakness, by having the venator put it's heavily armored hull towards separatist battleships.
My imaginary imperial fleet always comprises of all 4 ships with Tector SD and Lancer frigate. Tector and VSD form the main battle line with Lancer support, Venator in the rear, Acclamator for ground operations and sometimes combining with Arquitens to start a flanking maneuver.
I feel like the Arquitens-class light cruiser would only need one Acclamator to destroy it while the Venator would just need two Acclamators for it's destruction, three to be safe. And for the Victory class, I estimate it would need around 3 Acclamators, maybe 4 -5 just to be safe.
I think your ranking is perfect...I love Acclamators and have one as a ship in a Star Wars Rp...and getting that much data from all 4 core ships at once was awesome
Imagine fleet of a bunch of Acclamators in the following formation: -ships with more shield generators, armor and maybe a couple of SPHA-Ts stuck on for the first line -ships with more torpedoes, missiles and turbo lasers for the second line -ships in a carrier configuration with better sensors and command abilities for the third line -ships with giant frontal cannons integrated into the hull like that on the Munificent to be long-range artillery as a fourth line -not sure where the troop/assault variants would fit here, they could be near the carriers for more fighter screening or behind the artillery ships to be out of the way until the space battle is mostly over. Also, you could sprinkle in some support variants that carried extra supplies and repair equipment to help keep the other ships in optimal condition. The Frontline variants and bombers of the carrier variants should carry extra ion weaponry in order to overwhelm the shields of enemy ships quickly so that they can use their firepower to take advantage of most CIS ships'(Munificents & Recusants) relative structural fragility. For more powerful enemy ships like the Lucrehulk and Providence classes, use the same methods but just overwhelm them with superior firepower. If you encounter something like a Subjugator class, best bet is to attack at long range with artillery ships, missile spam and fighter/bomber waves. You could slowly and methodically wear it down that way while other fleets deal with the CIS support elements, or you could do something crazy like get a single Acclamator, stuff it full of explosives, skeleton crew it with droids and ram it at maximum speed into wherever weakspot you want to target on the ship, like the rear engine block or the Ion superweapon as it's charging up. Would using fighters to do the same thing be more efficient for the latter option? Yes, as provided you can keep enough of them alive to reach the spot, as happened in canon. But, I mean, come in, a single Acclamator full of explosives and no casualties compared to a Subjugator class? That's still a pretty solid return on your credits. The best part about this is due to the cheapness and relatively tiny crew requirements of the Acclamators, combined with their ludicrous hyperdrive ratings, you could build up an obscene number of balanced task forces to spend as rapid-response defense/patrol fleets and as forward harassment and blitz formations, doing damage and disrupting infrastructure before the CIS can send in reinforcements from our of the local area.
Every significant battle in Star Wars is decided by Starfighters. Battle of Naboo: decided by a single N1. Battle of Coruscant: decided by 2 Jedi Starfighters. Scarif: Y-Wings disable ISD. Yavin: Obvious Endor: A-Wing destroys Executer, others destroy Death Star II. Starkiller base: X-wings blow it up. Last Jedi: Single X-wing disables all the point defense on the dreadnought. Ties destroy both the hanger ans bridge of the Raddus. Exogul: Resistance force of mostly Starfighters destroys dozens of Xyston class. With that in mind you would be mad not to pick the Venator. In an era where most Starfighters dont have hyperdrives carriers are the king.
The Acclamator is one of the best multi-role capital ships ever designed by the Republic. Minimal crew cost, crazy fast hyperdrive for its size, quad turbolasers and heavy proton torpedoes allow it to engage effectively in ship-to-ship combat, while its laser cannons defend it from fighters and bombers. Also, it can be modified to be used as a starfighter carrier, as it does have a ventral launch bay. It can fight, it can land troops and vehicles directly on the planet's surface, it can even engage in planetary bombardment. It's truly a solid capital ship design, one of my absolute faves! 🥰
I can't help but imagine a Battlestar class ship built with Star Wars technology, if you wanted a multipurpose ship then Battlestars really have it going on.
In reality the Venator should never of been used as a frontline ship it's role should of been a support/carrier I believe that the Republic frontline Star Destroyer was the Victory Class
Acclamator is my absolute favorite because it can be modified to be able to carry fighters as well as military units and it be well enough balanced to take on larger ships until it can dip out.
>completely ignoring the Arquitens it's way more versatile the the Acclamator, it's only shortfall is that is not a capital ship, but it is an excellent light cruiser even in canon, it was modified to make it more sensible, putting an actual hangar in it though with a bit of remodeling you can easy turn it a combat monster, put proton torpedoes into the hole in the prow, remove the quad laser cannons and add point defense, add 2 ion cannon batteries, one top, one under and maybe put in a slightly larger reactor and better hyperdrive in it, and now you have a cruiser that can pick it's engagements as it wants, punch beyond it's weight-class, and still barely cost anything on the other hand you can allocate hull space to hangars and crewspace, and probably have it be the base of operations for a strike team, like clone commando squads if I had to pick one ship from sw I would pick the Arquitens, it's just way better utility and less maintenance and upkeep than the larger ships
Headcannon on the Venator and Victory: The Republic navy was mostly designed from the ground up, not building upon the tradition of any existing millitary force. Thus it was based on the lessons learned on many smaller conflicts such as the battle of Naboo, where starfighter and smaller combat vessels reigned supreme. Thus the heavy Carrier focus was born. In the war it was revealed how this meant, that the republic lacked the tools to directly oppose enemy fleets, particularly where area denial and breakthroughs are concerned (blockades and breaking them. Thus the Venator had to be pushed into this role, often featuring refitted projectile launchers to leverage munitions capacity (originally for rearming starfighters). The development of the Victory starting in early war was a more mid-term atempt at filling that hole, but it never reached significant enough numbers for wide spread contribution and got quickly overtaken by the empire class post-war. The latter was just a less specialized vessel more suited towards garrisoning an pacifing an entire galaxy (which usually doesn't entail the fleet actions where th more specialized victory shines). Enemy fleets where just a thing of the past.
Okay, I’ll admit my hate for the Victory Star Destroyers is due to how they seem more Imperial than Republic to me as well as the fact in Disney Canon, crews of the Victory 1 ships called them unlucky vessels and coffin ships since they were rushed out into service. Still, I feel it would have been wrong for the Victory to be the “best” Republic warship because if anything, it was more of an Imperial ship. The whole outer design looks so much like the Imperial Star Destroyers that came afterwards. I guess I see the Victory destroyers as being the bridge between the Republic and Imperial navies. Sure, the latter had a few Venators and Acclamators left while the Arquitens were remodeled as we see in Rebels, but at least they don’t feel lifeless and scary. The Victory on the other hand though just screams Imperial.
Ideal clone wars fleet for me would be one Victory 1, one Venator, two standard Aclamaters, one carrier modified Aclamater, and four Arquitens with their turrets modified for point defense. Basically, 1 battleship/command ship, 2 carriers, 2 troop transports, and 4 ships for fighter defense which could free up the carriers on fighters for more bombers or LATT gunships.
Acclamator and Victory are my favorite two. Acclamators are so versatile, and tough as heck. The Victory could go toe to toe against any CIS ship and win.
You make a good point. 1v1 a Victory would probably win against any of the others (although a Venator's massive fighter component might carry it), for for the crew cost of 1 Victory, you could deploy 6 Acclamators. I don't think even the victory could beat 6 at once. That being said, using these ships in support of each other is the way to go.
The acclamator was one of the best ships in the Republic Navy. At the beginning of the war the Acclamator was the only main ship the Republic had. The victory class design was somewhat based off the Acclamator.
Also just to add cuz idk if it was done before or after for the Aclimator, but it did have a hangar but you could only send o it TIE fighters, so it most likely after…
You have to remember the tv show writers probably didn’t think too deeply into it, and they had cgi budget and deadlines. They also might have been basing it off of a more basic perspective than a tactical one. Target audience was the hasbros. This is how I see ‘representation’ vs ‘how it actually would have been done in doctrine after a few costly losses’ (if was reality).
The Victory Class is like one of those sitcom characters that everyone talks about, but you never ever see. A tragedy that the Victory-Class has never made a canon on screen appearance, despite having a rather rich lore both in legend and canon. Pound per pound, easily, the Victory-Class is the strongest ship-to-ship combat vessel. Just in terms of turbolasers alone, it could outgun 3 Venators just solo.
I have wondered a bit about a certain tactic The Republic could've used in certain scenarios, namely: breaking planetary shields, or destroying very large, and difficult to destroy ships. That tactic being: Death Star-ing it. How could The Republic/Empire pull a feat like that off, long before The Death Stars even were a thing? Here's the scenario: A fleet of at least 8 Venators are attacking a well defended Separatist world, planetary shield, and all. What are The Venators to do with the shields up? Well, before engaging in this battle, The Republic/Early Empire would've equiped these 8 Venators with ventral SPHA-T Lasers, like at The Battle of Coruscant, so, all they had to do was perfectly line these ships in a circle, aim each SPHA-T Laser towards a convergence point, fire, then, the combined power of those lasers makes a superlaser comparable in strength to something like the later Death Stars, or Eclipse/Sovereign SSDs in later years, and bye-bye Separatist super-ships, and planetary shields. Obviously, The Republic wouldn't do this sort of tactic all that often, what with needing at least 8 Venators (Each one costing 59M Credits) equipped with very heavy, very expensive SPHA-T weapons for this to work, and also the potential carnage, and loss of life on the planet's surface, resulting in bad PR for The Republic, so this would be a tactic that would only really be used as a last resort in dire situations, but it could've happened, if the writers thought about it.
Surely they're all designed to be the best at what they do, that being the point of specialised ships. Using them incorrectly was the problem the Republic had as they didn't use them in mixed fleets.
I think the best solution is to deploy these ships in tandem with one another. Venators at the back of the formation acting as dedicated carriers, Victory Star Destroyers as the main backbone/firepower of the fleet, Acclamators as generalists to support/screen the Victorys and Venators, and Arquitens to also act as support/screening for the larger vessels. However, if I had to pick just one ship, it would either be the Venator (as its fighter complement is extremely effective and versatile) or the Acclamator, as it's a durable, reliable, and versatile vessel, albeit sorely lacking in fighter support.
my favourite ship in star wars history is the VSDI. and is also my favorite ship AOTR. when you upgrade it with tie interceptors this reduces the advantage of enemy fighters somewhat.
I have to agree with this list. As I am someone that really loves Victory SD to the point that I know they should have been the backbone of the Empires fleet, I still have to agree with this list overall for the reasons noted.
Each ship has their own roles. Some were strictly battleships, and others were fighter-bomber carriers. HOW they were used though, is what we should be looking at. A lot of them were misused to hell and back. And comparing Cruisers to Super Carriers is a little unfair.
Why didn’t he add the HUGE cannon in the bottom of the venator that could destroy munificent class frigate in one shot. I think that would be a pretty big addition.
According to wookiepedia the Venatior could pack enough energy into it's turbolasers to equal the firepower of an ISD1 which combined with an airwing of almost 500 and decent shielding in a ship less than 2/3 the size should put it in the top spot.
I'd say the Victory-class is the best-designed. It's got a decent-sized fighter hangar, it's got enough firepower to go around, just grab some droids or some farmboy yokels from the rim or some poor shmucks from the cities to cover the crew requirements, and you're good.
issue with the republic was the rusan reformations made it so they had to design and build their fleets from scratch. this meant that despite the republic having more than enough ship building worlds such as kuat, rendili, mon cala, and corellia. they could only design, test, and produce so many types of ships during the relatively short clone wars. unlike the cis which had a premade fleet the republic had to make and upgrade their fleet as the war dragged on resulting in a less diverse fleet and ships being used inappropriately simply due to the fact they had no ships to fill the roles properly.
I do agree with you other than the Venator for I believe would be the best ship if only if it was used as a carrier instead of a Battleship but you can take that as bias for the Venator is my favorite ship in Star War’s
I'd say Republic Venator's many weakspots could be defended by starfighters which could be easily deployed with the giant hangar.
Depends on how quickly they can be deployed. If a Venator jumps into the middle of a battle, it might get shredded.
But the giant hangar makes the hull weaker
How many starfighters does it take to stop a Munificent heavy turbolaser blast?
Edit:
In the new cannon there’s been only one post-Clone Wars Acclamator, the _Lodestar_ under Hera Syndulla.
I love Empire at War, but that game does acclamators dirty.

And also Anakin breaking the Geneva conventions never lost the ship except when he threw it like a mowtafucar at a lucrehulk at ryloth 😂🎉
@@geraldapollyon655 the only weakness the Venator had was
1. Being used as a Frontline ship , like a cruiser or battleship , while it was a carrier , a very good and independent carrier with armour and weapons
2. The victory is critically underated, I really wish we saw it in clone wars
They scary.
Agreed, its basically a small sized star destroyer.
But the acclamator's agility and weapons are very usefull in many ways
The CIS was never meant to win.
Plus, the CIS had a far better navy than the (Old) Republic.
@Majin Jason the venator was supposed to support the victory 1
I'd add proton torpedoes , ton of them , and a starfighter hanger somewhere external , like on the engines behind the Bridge with 12 or 24 Tie Defenders and Scimitar assault bombers , it should focus on anti capital ships while it's ties focus on star fighters,
Venator should have been used as a flagship like a modern carrier is in the US, while being supprted by a diverse fleet.
@The Indoor Outdoorsman the venator was made to support the Vic 1 .
I still think Venators' weaknesses can be largely compensated by large number of starfighters, as well as modifications similar to Acclamators'

Seeing those Venator formations makes you wonder why we never saw the like 3,000 fighters they should have brought to their engagements.
In defense of the Venator it’s hangars and other openings could be used by republic tanks, like how they used artillery tank and the laser tank in revenge of the sith and the laser especially was shown to be quite powerful

Yes, I love both ships 🥰

It's cause the on screen evidence is that Acclamator is just a transport ship, not the invincible fan wank job that it's been made out to be.
I wouldn't call the arquitens undergunned really. Two broadside twin turbolasers and a pair of missile tubes per side against captial ships and the well laid out quad lasercannon turrets for all round "AA" seem like a lot for the size. it's just a bit of everything, great for an escort or patrol cruiser but maybe a bit wasted in a battle line.

there you have your answer also the droid hatred of the OT distrusted heavily droids . also the CIS probably had several tries to take over republic ships that way
@@laisphinto6372 You know what that's fair.
The small craft act as it's weapons and shields when used right
I know someone will say it wasn't used properly and that's true, but also applies to the rest of the ships.
The Grand Army of the Republic has the finest ships in the galaxy during the Clones.
Cis ships were better
I've always been a Ventor fan, but the Acclemator is a very close second, followed by the Arcatens, then lastly the Victory Star Destroys sure there cool with all that artillery but there to similar to Imperial Star Destroys for my liking and I'm loyal to the Republic to the end so I can't favor these Victory ships too much despite all they've got going for them.
the Victory fleet is literally the reason the republic didnt collpapse at the foerest campaign and also were vital in the outer rim sieges
My favorite is the Arquitens, though that's less about power and more because I like the smaller corvette style ships over the big capital ships.
Gimli: *Smashes this channel like he tried to do to The Ring with his axe*
This is no rabble of teethless Venators, THESE ARE VICTORYS! Their armor is thick, their shields BROAD!
The hull is broad thus the shields are too, from a certain point of view.
All ships are good ships just doing their best..........the Acclamator is Best Boi though :D
The Victory Class SD is my favorite with the Acclamator a close second
I cannot unsee this... I cannot thank you for this unique insight... but I will try.
@@dhaburuk6494 I've carried this thought since 1999. Sorry to plant that image.
God, now I can’t unsee it. Thanks for giving me the thought..now calling the Venators “Jar Jar Ships”.
People have noted that before.
Personally i think the Acclamator is the best , Being able to land and carry AN ENTIRE ARMY to a planet
Task Group Plan (all tech possible):
2 or 4 Acclimators for general purpose.
(Says so at 2:02.)
Anyways, I kinda prefer the Victory. Cluster missile spam potential, for one reason.
What I've noticed is that republic ships usually specialize in a role of which they excel at but are made flexible enough that they can take on secondary roles if need be, albeit with less effectives then a specialized ship.
1# Venator
Your carrier but can also fill the role as a capital ship if need be
2# Victory
Your frontline combat ship but it's missile swarms can also screen fighters
3# Imperator
Your command ship but can function as a heavy destroyer
4# Arquitens
Your corvette hunter and harasser
5# Carrack
Your gunship/fighter screener ( since it has 2 loadouts )
6# Gladiator
Your escort cruiser
7# Mandator
Your dreadnought
8# Praetor
Your battleship
9# C70
Your corvette and fighter screener
10# Acclamator
Invasion/landing ship but can function as a heavy cruiser and fire support ship.
No matter the ship, the Republic had the greatest Fleet in Galactic history!

Facts
Compared to the Empire and CIS, not at all
Imagine fleet of a bunch of Acclamators in the following formation:
-ships with more shield generators, armor and maybe a couple of SPHA-Ts stuck on for the first line
-ships with more torpedoes, missiles and turbo lasers for the second line
-ships in a carrier configuration with better sensors and command abilities for the third line
-ships with giant frontal cannons integrated into the hull like that on the Munificent to be long-range artillery as a fourth line
-not sure where the troop/assault variants would fit here, they could be near the carriers for more fighter screening or behind the artillery ships to be out of the way until the space battle is mostly over.
Yavin: Obvious
Endor: A-Wing destroys Executer, others destroy Death Star II.
With that said, I fully respect and love the Venator and Victory-class designs, they are fantastic for their roles as well.
Acclamator is my absolute favorite because it can be modified to be able to carry fighters as well as military units and it be well enough balanced to take on larger ships until it can dip out.
The acclimator is my favorite ship to use in empire at war. It's cheap doesn't take up a lot of unit space and has torpedoes, its the best
>completely ignoring the Arquitens
it's way more versatile the the Acclamator, it's only shortfall is that is not a capital ship, but it is an excellent light cruiser
even in canon, it was modified to make it more sensible, putting an actual hangar in it
though with a bit of remodeling you can easy turn it a combat monster, put proton torpedoes into the hole in the prow, remove the quad laser cannons and add point defense, add 2 ion cannon batteries, one top, one under and maybe put in a slightly larger reactor and better hyperdrive in it, and now you have a cruiser that can pick it's engagements as it wants, punch beyond it's weight-class, and still barely cost anything
on the other hand you can allocate hull space to hangars and crewspace, and probably have it be the base of operations for a strike team, like clone commando squads
if I had to pick one ship from sw I would pick the Arquitens, it's just way better utility and less maintenance and upkeep than the larger ships
Headcannon on the Venator and Victory:
The Republic navy was mostly designed from the ground up, not building upon the tradition of any existing millitary force.
The mandator: am I a joke to you
“Core ships”
The mandator: oh okay
Arquiten is so underrated but I love that ship
The acclamator was one of the best ships in the Republic Navy. At the beginning of the war the Acclamator was the only main ship the Republic had. The victory class design was somewhat based off the Acclamator.
Huh I guess most of us must be Jedi generals because most of us love the venator class star destroyer.
Also just to add cuz idk if it was done before or after for the Aclimator, but it did have a hangar but you could only send o it TIE fighters, so it most likely after…
In Empire At War i like ussing Victory 1 as frontline ships and Venators in the back. It's a OP formation.
You have to remember the tv show writers probably didn’t think too deeply into it, and they had cgi budget and deadlines. They also might have been basing it off of a more basic perspective than a tactical one. Target audience was the hasbros.
This is how I see ‘representation’ vs ‘how it actually would have been done in doctrine after a few costly losses’ (if was reality).
i love how the venator looked and if used as a carrier was nice, but the acclimator was superior for overall firepower and def.
I want a Star Wars game. Where your a 501st stormtrooper taking over the galaxy with Vader, in the early days of the Rebellion.
Now we need a ranked combined effectiveness of both navies if they deployed and used their assets the best way possible.
Think that was a griund artillery unit beubg used in an unconventional way
The STAPH aka that massive cannon. Is not fitted on all Venators
According to wookiepedia the Venatior could pack enough energy into it's turbolasers to equal the firepower of an ISD1 which combined with an airwing of almost 500 and decent shielding in a ship less than 2/3 the size should put it in the top spot.
Venator is my favorite
2:10 caught me so off guard lmfao
'four quad laser turrets'
'completely lacked point defense weapons'
Missiles were used against starfighters, too....
