Sometimes it seems like you hate him just to hate him & don't give him a real chance to change your mind & I think that's what has people bothered about your opinion. For me it isn't really about lyricism with mgk, it's his story telling & his relatability to some of the crap I've been through in life. His songs like Merry Go Round & Lead You On have helped me to remember why I quit drugs & why I'm still living & breathing today. The kid has gone thru some shit in life & he is willing to share it with people who feel alone in the world, he speaks to those people. To me, that's more important than crazy rhyme schemes & insane lyricism. It's not as important to other people & that's ok too.

He’s one of the best story tellers. He puts his heart and soul into every song and every album. That’s part of the reason his fans (which are called EST) are ride or die.

Until you’ve heard sometimes entire discography you can’t rule them out for anything. Especially MGK. he’s one of the most versatile artists on the planet. I wouldn't say he's a lyricist. I would say he has some good creative bars but i think he's more of a substance rapper. If you break it down there is like 3 catagories, there is a like pure bars rapper, there is substance, and there is story telling. Most rappers do all 3 but really excel at 1 and mgks is substance. He can make songs where you can actually feel the pain and thats why o respect him because not many rappers today can convey pure pain and most of them aren't vulenerable enough to do it.

When mgk said "Paranoia got me using these meds now I'm Smokey like Chris on a Friday like Craig, retract that statement I'm stony as fred" that bar was heavy using double entendres to reference both weed with the Flintstones and Friday by referencing the 2 main characters.

As a fan of lyricsm and a huge fan of MGK, I can totally understand what you're saying. Colson, and bandmates, know how to get a crowd going. They're performers for sure and SUPER talented artists all around. I continuously say 'they', because MGK isn't a one man show as much as people like to think of it in that way...
I am surprised that people recommended this one to try to highlight Colson's lyricsm specifically, seeing as I am fairly certain that Slim XX, along with Colson and a few other people wrote this particular song lol. I think there were like 6, maybe 7 writers on this one tbh...🤷♀️
A big portion of their discography is actually written in collaboration with each other, and has more of a story telling vibe, so if you're talking about lyricsm within the context of rap/hip hop, you're not gonna find too many songs with crazy wordplay or hard hitting bars like some of other other favourite lyricists within the genre.
If that's how we're making a comparison? Cause to be technical...any songwriter is a lyricist... so...
I am new to your channel, and haven't checked out all your vids yet, but... if you haven't already checked out the "Blue Skies" Live at Park Ave.. with MGK, you should definitely do it. Either as a reaction or just on your own. Probably one of my favourite live performances when considering all my fav artists. They perform a medley of four songs (written mostly by Colson, I believe). So frickin good!

But, I am fairly certain that he is the writer and/or co writer on all the songs.. I haven't checked credits to every single song lol but like I said, they're a band... they collaborate together....just like any other typical band would do. Man do "The Slashy Show" Ez Mil the lyrics video. This shows his versatility of flows and hitting every pocket. And an old school type beat like Jay-z and Kanye, the beat is saucy. I already see this is your type of music.
