  • In this vid, I go over how to install the factory Delphi satellite navigation radio in your 07-11 Saab 9-3. I ran into a few hiccups that are resolved in my part 2. Everything works (including steering wheel controls) with the exception of Onstar and the voice recognition/commands. I will show how to add the voice recognition in a part 3. If this helped you out be sure to like, subscribe for more content and comment below with questions.

    I don't know who you are on FB or in real life, but I just want to say thank you for sharing all these information. I added the factory Nav unit myself but the learning curve was quite long after asking (bothering) way too many times and hours of internet research. Keep up with what you are doing, people like you are the reason why a dead car brand is still around till this day.

Can I just pull one of the wires, attach it to the connector and then pull it from the dash to the footwell? Also, do we need to tap in or can this physically connect somewhere?

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  2 года назад

      Sure. The antenna adapter that plugs into the SatNavs antenna spot is (Metra 40-CR20): amzn.to/3EkF6Tl
      Then the Metra 40-EU55 (amzn.to/3spXYy1) plugs into the 40-CR20 on one end and then into the vehicle original antenna plug.
      The additional blue wire on the 40-EU55 harness is the one that I didn't use but you may be able to attach 12v power to avoid modifying the factory radio harness.

    Great video thanks and mid way through my head unit upgrade to the delphi sat nav in my 2012 93 convertible - what is the purpose of the wiring alteration to the grey/white and white cables on the existing loom - any help much appreciated

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  2 года назад

      Switching the wires helps with the sound and antenna reception. I haven't tried it but you might be able to do away with altering those wires and just add 12v power to the blue antenna adapter wire. At the time of making this video I thought it was a ground but now that I think about it that may not be the case. You can always just plug in the satnav without altering the wires and then marry via tech 2. Hear how it sounds and check the radio FM reception. More than likely it will be less than desirable. Then take an alligator clip and run 12v power to blue antenna adapter wire and test again. If the sound and reception still do not get better, then proceed to modify wires as seen in video. Thanks for the comment and best of luck with your install!

    It appears to save a few hundred on Ebay parts, the 2007 Tahoe had the same headunit albeit the buttons don't have individual chrome borders, but 99% match. Saab nav unit is 400, Tahoe/Yukon goes as little as 150

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  3 года назад

      While the other GM radios compared to Saabs SatNav are nearly visually identical, electronically they're a bit different. Mounting points are similar but also different. The Silverado/Sierra/Tahoe versions do not use a disc drive for the maps function. Also, you would likely need a GM factory unlocked radio to even try to marry to the Saab. I've only theorized this since I've tried previously to marry a vin locked GM radio to my Saab without any luck. The factory unlocked versions are way over priced and not worth the experiment.

    pretty informative video...
    I also installed a stock 2007 OEM navigation unit (came from a bose system car),
    to my 2008 non bose saab 9-3.
    After programming the unit using the Tech 2 scanner, the unit finally turned on.
    Issue im having is the sound is very very distorted, and the engineer is saying thats because my car is non bose and the unit comes off a bose system car.
    Do you have any suggestions and ideas as to what i could do to maybe correct this?

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  3 года назад

      That's an interesting question. I don't know much about the non-bose sound systems. Could be caused since yours wasn't bose like you said or maybe an issue with the radio itself? Is the distortion across all forms of sound? For example FM tuner, CD, aux input?

  • @js_5083
    @js_5083 5 лет назад

    I fitted this unit on my 2010 9 3 and didn't cut any wires. It was simply plug and play with the exception of the adaptors you showed and the tech2 program. Works fine but no AM and no XM.

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  5 лет назад

      Good feedback! It will certainly function without the wire modifications shown but, like you've found out not all functions will work and radio reception probably not as good. Heck, you don't necessarily need to create a VSS hookup but the nav unit won't update your driving progress as fast.

  • @okletsskate

    Took mine apart, I looked at the diagram and I don't have an ant enable wire anywhere. I was able to get the Distance pulse in/speed senser to work by splicing, I have all the adapters but no ant enable exists in the harness. Everything works but FM reception is terrible now. I do have #6 but it's called REM EN OUT.

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  4 года назад

      On the 40-EU55 antenna harness should be an extra blue wire. See if you can hook that up to a keyed 12v source (probably easiest to tap into the cigarette lighter). I would first try with a wire with alligator clip ends and run to the positive battery cable to test before you splice anything new.

    Hello did you connected the satnav antena to the 2 connectors shark fin antena on the roof (phone+satnav) if you had it, of course, or did you use aftermarket nav antena hanging out on the back or top of the unit ?

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  4 года назад

      Hello. I did not need to hook anything directly up to the shark fin since the thicker black antenna wire from the back of the radio leads up to the shark fin. Since the shark fins on non satnav cars are not used for gps I used an aftermarket magnetic gps antenna and set it directly on top on the satnav radio as shown in video. Theres no need to route into the headliner or anything bc it picks up great reception just in the dash. If you truly wanted to do an all oem install you would need a shark fin with the multiple connector plugs and route an additional gps wire from the shark fin to the radio. It's a lot of work for no different of a result than what I did.

    • @LDantinhas
      @LDantinhas 4 года назад

      Weakest of Weeks yes of course you’re right but I want to install it oem. So I’ll buy 2 wires shark fin and the 2 connectors loom from dashboard up to the roof, or the loom with just the nav connection, without the brown connector only the blue nav one ( brown is only for car mobile phone install, which is completely not used by anyone anyway, it’s what I have oem in my Saab) A bit of work but the result is oem it’s what I want. Thanks. Nice work 👍💪🏻

    Gary, Has anybody found a way to update the NAV DVD? I know there is one for Europe, since I suspect there are many more Saabs over there. I guess somebody took the time to re-code the DVD to work over there. Or, is there another GM DVD that works, even though Saab would not come up when turned on, aside from throwing another module in it, like you did in another video? • @WeakestofWeeks

      I appreciate the recommendation. My Saab actually has the premium bose sound system with that part. For sake of time in the video, I show me programming for the 7 speaker system since I didn't know which one I had at the time. I later went back and programmed to the correct 11 (if I remember correctly) speaker system. Honestly, there was no difference in sound quality vs 7 and 11 speaker system after programming. The display could be burned out. You can transplant displays from a similar satnav unit like the Saturn unit I used for parts (since some Saab parts are treated like gold). You will need to physically remove the unit from your car and will need some very small nut drivers if you plan to keep your original button surrounds. I did that bc the Saturn satnav unit I used has a silver trim surround and the Saabs is black. A point of mention is that you will not need to use a tech 2 unless you replace then entire radio unit with another OEM unit.

One locally for $55 and a Saturn unit for $60 that I used for parts. All I've used to swap into 9-3's that never had the navigation option. Keep on the hunt if you're going for that OEM look. You never know, you may just find some great deals!

    Hi!! After installed this NAV System from GM (Delphi Grundig) on my 2007 EUROPEAN SAAB 9-3 (Wagon), following your instructions (works PERFECTLY!), I wonder if there´s any upgrade to install a Bluetooth system without using any exterior device (like the AUX plug)?.... I heard about a CRUX device (BTS-GM1X) that is easy to install (plug and play - ruclips.net/video/Zqlz3nyKy98/видео.html ), but I´m not pretty sure if it works, as I don´t know if my SAAB have the XM satellite radio Tuner (if it exist, don´t know the location). I wonder if you have some addicional information. Thanks a lots......

      Hello, thank you for watching and glad the video helped! First off, do you have an option for XM when selecting between FM, CD, etc? If you don't have this setting then I would assume you do not have the XM option. Since the sedan 9-3's XM tuner is in the trunk on the rear right I would check to see if your combi is also within the rear right of your cargo area. I've heard mixed reviews about that module going bad after a short time and the fact it is only for music. I've personally used this (www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-FM-Transmitter-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B07F2RTN5Z/ref=sr_1_5?crid=7DL6EKIMSXHX&dchild=1&keywords=cigarette+lighter+bluetooth+adapter&qid=1592173526&sprefix=cigarette+lighter+blu%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-5) for music and calls and is hardly noticeable. Hope that helps!

      @@WeakestofWeeks Hello.... unfortunatly I do not have the XM option to be selected. So, I´ll follow your option ordering the Bluetooth device that you referred. Once again, thank you very much for your help

    Great video. I am thinking of ugrading to aftermarket video. I don't have a tool to "divorce" it. Will i be okay by still being "married"? lol

      Thank you! Unfortunately, the radios will be vin locked and unusable if you're not able to divorce the old radio and marry the new one to your car. Depending on where you live you may have someone near you with a scanner. Check out post #2 on this forum and find out who's local to you: www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383074

      I just realized you were talking about an aftermarket radio. If that's the case then no you shouldn't need a tech 2. If you removing you OEM radio for another then yes, you would need the tech 2.

      Weakest of Weeks Hey thanks for the awesome video. Anyway I have a 2007 93 Aero SportCombi wagen that came stock with the Nav/XM radio touch screen that you installed in this video. I am now looking to switch this out with an after market head unit because I want Bluetooth, usb etc. I am trying to buy this unit www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Android-MP3-Car-Player-Saab-9-3-93-MP4-Radio-Stereo-Head-Unit-GPS-Fascia-Kit/303094645774?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180816085401%26meid%3D6222515b64d84748b86a0561ef9cf9a4%26pid%3D100970%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D303094645774%26itm%3D303094645774%26pg%3D2481888&_trksid=p2481888.c100970.m5481&_trkparms=pageci%3Aaa10e4b8-b8c6-11e9-b569-74dbd18070f7%7Cparentrq%3A6a342fc316c0ad31c3adebadffd3ce0c%7Ciid%3A1 but they’re saying it’s incompatible? Is it because they’re running connectors that you had to mod to fit the unit that I have stock? If you know how to get this to work or know of one that will that would be great! Thanks!
