Normally I make something for my piggies for christmas. 2 years ago, I build them a big cage, last year I build them a castle with ramps and upper levels, but due to some health issues, I didn't build them anything this year (tumor in my hand, so very delicate surgery). But I ordered some cool hideys for them and the money goes to a local resue, so I'm very pleased with it. Aww, I hope Lyra feels better! My first guinea pig, Gibby, passed away Christmas morning 3 years ago at the age of 4, and it was tough. We took him to the vet the day before, and he found nothing wrong with him and mentioned his advanced age and that it was probably getting closer to his time. As tough as it was, knowing the life he had with me made it much easier for me to say goodbye to him, and, because of how amazing he was, is why I have continued getting more guinea pigs and I have found an animal I can see myself having forever. 3 years later I'm re-watching this video and you mentioned Lyra had been diagnosed with Cushing's disease i'm so intrigued by this because you described my Tillie to a t...! I won't know for sure until I get her to the vet. Soon enough though.
I'm sad to hear Lyra is not doig well and I'm hoping the next vet visit will help to stabilise her. It's good to know that you are a very caring and responsible pig mom who is acting in the piggies best interest. Thank you for your wonderful videos and the joy you spread about having guinea pigs. The fluffy little pads with hearts and stars, etc- they ARE soft, but they are not padded, at all. They get soaking wet after one pee because there is only the one thin fabric sewn to another one. I hope that made sense!

Well, I’m not doing much for Christmas. We got two more Guinea pigs (we had just one, her cagemate died a couple months back) just a few days ago. I’m hand sewing a bunch of hides, a tunnel, a cuddle cube, I might follow a tutorial or two from you also.
I can always tell which one is drinking too: one drinks really quickly, one drinks slowly and takes forever and the other takes hundreds of mini drinks. Not just you I promise. Feel better little Lyra, lots of chilling and Emeraid xxxxx

I'd recommend trying to get some of the CBD that Saskia from the Los Angelo's Guinea pig rescue uses its help's so much. I had an elderly teddy piggy who would get excited when I applied it because she knew it she'd feel well enough to be able to popcorn and have zoomies on our bed.

One of my piggies is aggressive with the water bottle and the other one isn't so I can tell the difference too. All the best for Lyra too, I'm sad to her she's unwell again. Don't know what I'd do if one of my piggies became poorly. Thankfully they're nice and young so it shouldn't be in the immediate future
You should totally do a video on all types of items that you do reccommend for guinea pigs and what you don't reccomend and reasons why. I think that would be real cool

I am wishing all the best to Lyra, hope the medication can help ease her symptoms. I sadly didn't have the best outcome with my piggie with heart disease. I recently lost my guinea pig Lusi to heart disease. On Monday, 13th of December, I had to put her to sleep. She was diagnosed with heart disease about two months ago when I could hear her breathing was not quite right. At the beginning of this year she had her ovaries removed surgically and on x-ray they could see a little bit of fluid around her heart and advised me to call and bring her in so we can start treating. So when I could hear Lusi had trouble breathing, I scheduled a vet appointment for her. The vet examined her, performed an x-ray, blood work and an ultrasound of the chest. They could see there was a lot more fluid around her heart and in her lungs as well, there was a mass between her left and right lung. I and the vet suspected she was suffering from heart failure, but sadly we never got the chance for the cardiologist to examine her heart as Lusi was put to sleep just 3 days before her appointment, we could sadly not do anything more for her. For two months I was watching her health decline, I was doing everything I could think of to try and help her and save her, but it was sadly all too much for her precious little body and she was getting weaker and weaker each day. Me and the vet tried three different medication regimes, I was syringe feeding her practically every day as she couldn't eat enough on her own, I was supplementing her with vitamin c, giving her probiotics, I was with her as much as I could, she received ton of cuddles and I really were hoping she would be able to pull through. Sadly, as I said, her health was declining fast, she lost over 100 g in two weeks, her poops were really bad - never a proper size and shape, for the last week of her life it was basically a liquid diarrhea and no amount of probiotics could help her. Her eyes were watering and she was loosing hair around her nose, she was constantly tired and was laying in one spot all day. No amount of medication could help her breathe normally again, even though in the beginning stages of her treatment it was able to do so, which was just a few weeks before she started declining again. I feel like she was hanging on and not passing away just so I wouldn't be hurt and had as much time with her before it was too much for her. I feel like deep down I knew she will have to be put to sleep, I just wasn't ready to say goodbye, I was selfish, but she meant so much to me and she was the only one still alive of the first trio of guinea pigs I ever had. I feel like she was my soulmate, she trusted me unconditionally, she never ran away from me or got scared of me, she loved giving me kisses, she loved laying in my lap or on my chest and sleeping, whenever I put cream on my face in the evenings, she would lick it off my chin, she also loved giving nose kisses. She would beg for food by putting her front paws on the edge of her enclosure and she was such a genuine, precious soul. We all loved her so much, she was welcoming towards every human she came in contact with. She was a wonderful piggie, she was the main reason I could deal with my GAD, social anxiety, OCD and panic disorder, I feel so numb after losing her. It really hurts and I miss her so much, it feels like a part of me is missing😔😔 I feel like it's not fair, she was only 4 years and 4 months old.

Your dedication to caring for her when she needed it most is definitely not something to feel guilty over, but it is very common among owners of terminally ill pets. She helped you and played an important part in your life, you helped and cared for her in return and ultimately made that hardest of decisions to ease her pain. The video titled "Losing a guinea pig: Willow's message" on my channel is about our grief and loss after losing a beloved piggie and I think it (and the links to articles on The Guinea Pig forum in the video description) might help you in this sad time. You should totally do a video on all types of items that you do reccommend for guinea pigs and what you don't reccomend and reasons why.

I am wishing all the best to Lyra, hope the medication can help ease her symptoms. I sadly didn't have the best outcome with my piggie with heart disease.
I recently lost my guinea pig Lusi to heart disease. On Monday, 13th of December, I had to put her to sleep. She was diagnosed with heart disease about two months ago when I could hear her breathing was not quite right. At the beginning of this year she had her ovaries removed surgically and on x-ray they could see a little bit of fluid around her heart and advised me to call and bring her in so we can start treating. So when I could hear Lusi had trouble breathing, I scheduled a vet appointment for her. The vet examined her, performed an x-ray, blood work and an ultrasound of the chest. They could see there was a lot more fluid around her heart and in her lungs as well, there was a mass between her left and right lung. I and the vet suspected she was suffering from heart failure, but sadly we never got the chance for the cardiologist to examine her heart as Lusi was put to sleep just 3 days before her appointment, we could sadly not do anything more for her.
For two months I was watching her health decline, I was doing everything I could think of to try and help her and save her, but it was sadly all too much for her precious little body and she was getting weaker and weaker each day. Me and the vet tried three different medication regimes, I was syringe feeding her practically every day as she couldn't eat enough on her own, I was supplementing her with vitamin c, giving her probiotics, I was with her as much as I could, she received ton of cuddles and I really were hoping she would be able to pull through.
Sadly, as I said, her health was declining fast, she lost over 100 g in two weeks, her poops were really bad - never a proper size and shape, for the last week of her life it was basically a liquid diarrhea and no amount of probiotics could help her. Her eyes were watering and she was loosing hair around her nose, she was constantly tired and was laying in one spot all day. No amount of medication could help her breathe normally again, even though in the beginning stages of her treatment it was able to do so, which was just a few weeks before she started declining again.
I feel like she was hanging on and not passing away just so I wouldn't be hurt and had as much time with her before it was too much for her. I feel like deep down I knew she will have to be put to sleep, I just wasn't ready to say goodbye, I was selfish, but she meant so much to me and she was the only one still alive of the first trio of guinea pigs I ever had. I feel like she was my soulmate, she trusted me unconditionally, she never ran away from me or got scared of me, she loved giving me kisses, she loved laying in my lap or on my chest and sleeping, whenever I put cream on my face in the evenings, she would lick it off my chin, she also loved giving nose kisses. She would beg for food by putting her front paws on the edge of her enclosure and she was such a genuine, precious soul. We all loved her so much, she was welcoming towards every human she came in contact with. She was a wonderful piggie, she was the main reason I could deal with my GAD, social anxiety, OCD and panic disorder, I feel so numb after losing her. It really hurts and I miss her so much, it feels like a part of me is missing😔😔 I feel like it's not fair, she was only 4 years and 4 months old.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, I'm sure it will help others who read it. I'm so sorry for the loss of Lusi. Your dedication to caring for her when she needed it most is definitely not something to feel guilty over, but it is very common among owners of terminally ill pets. She helped you and played an important part in your life, you helped and cared for her in return and ultimately made that hardest of decisions to ease her pain.
