Al is a great example for all foreigners and locals alike to live with sustainability he certainly is a very smart man. For those foreigners and filipinos who are or is already on retirement complaining how expensive it is to live in PI you guys better reassess your own valuation and comfort you should always have a back up plan. Money doesn't grow in a tree but money can come from a tree.
I love the "Money doesn't grown in a tree but money can come from a tree." I actually LOL'd for real. And excellent advice on the backup plan piece. Thanks Phil.
DUDE! He looks like Stan lee to me!
Thats's so friggen awesome.
Nick Terrance LOLZ - I completely missed that!
Al is a man's man. He is so cool.
Funny, that's my uncle. He's certainly a one of a kind. Used to visit his cabin in Alaska when I was a kid.
Wayne Griffin Really? He's an interesting cat, to say the least. I told him how many people like his video, but I don't think he has even seen it yet!
Yeah, that's my mom's brother. I have way too many great stories about him. He had a cabin near May Creek Alaska and I would go visit him during the summer and pan for gold and copper, hunt for food and tool around in his Super Cub plane.
Al is a real gem, a true diamond in the rough. I like to collect characters like him and yourself, stay close to people like that and often amazed by what I learn!
Al is good people. I haven't even told him how popular his video has become.
al is no diamond in the rough....(you may want to google the meaning of that phrase)...but he sure is a gem....regards
Ron Aaserude YEAH! His works and actions are preventing the longer occurence of Global Warming and Climate Change by planting fruit trees that absorbs CO2 and gives backs oxygen too. These fruit tress also produce foods to feed the hungry world. It's like killing two birds with a single stone that's "AMAZING". People like us living in the modern world produces more CO2 from running our cars and SUV'S.
I love the place it's natural view away from the city,
Yeah, Valencia is a cool little garden town. Kt's a nice break from the city and EVERYTHING grows there. :)
Simple living is the best choice. Doing as much as you can with your own hands. And this nipa house is great.
Jean Hougron Wrong ! Nipa Hut are made everything from bamboo product no metal or concrete period. They are practically native Filipino's home.
Lovely couple she is so nice looks so happy and kids enjoying running playing around
Maria Datulayta Yeah, he and his family have a good life. :)
That's good to hear, a simple living is such a good choice...and to you and your partner Mitz wish you all the very best.
Really really love this place practical simple living and a paradise hopefully me and Carl will have that kind of place and home in future...wish she plant some colorful flowers that sorrounding....enjoying following him introducing different fruits..This called life ....enjoy guys
Alaska Al seems like a nice dude. Would be super cool to have all those trees to.
Yeah, Al is a very nice guy and those trees produce the most expensive fruit in the world. They will not start producing until next year but it is a legacy that he will eventually be able to leave to his family.
Al is my hero. Awesome video, Ned and Michell. I dream to have a place like that (with screens) when I retire overseas in order to stay busy with a good woman and keep out of trouble.
Yeah, I learned that I need screens as well. We didn't have them down in Dauin and the bugs in the house were pretty frikken bad.
Wow...! love to live like that Place one day...Smart Al. Thanks Ned & Michelle for this video.
Wow amazing !!!
loved this one
bigzach9 Yeah, it's a viewer's favorite and one that I really enjoyed doing. Al is above all else - good people.
I wanna visit AL !!!! I will bring the wine .
Amazing
A very good video. Most of your videos are interesting.Youre very adventouros and nice people.
It's nice of him to grow all that fruit for the neighbors. Lol
I don't drink beer, but something about Al makes me want to crack a brew with him. Pretty cool guy in my opinion.
Derrick Washington Al rocks. Talk about a guy who's done it all......
I like the house, but my wife says no. It’s very comfortable all open and big like that. I don’t think most people would think of that design. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks to all your videos. They're very informative. It give's me a lot of ideas of what to do. I'm originally from Valencia, but been living in Canada for 27 years now. I'm having second thoughts now of not selling my land there. Thanks again.
i guess you have already seen what lanzones looks like by now, it is a very popular fruit during the rainy season from august until november, if my memory serves me right, but it's pretty expensive fruit and you can really make a lot of money growing it.
Al's really got his shit together.
Kendall Lasyone Yessir.
Kendall Lasyone He's one kind of a Guy in his world our ours that help prevent the melting of Earth's Artic ice that will raise our oceans level. that most of us doesn't give a shit out of it.
Thinking about going to Negros in November to research agra tourism. I would really like to get connected with Al.
Excellent place.
john bombeo Yeah, Al is chillin like a villian on his mountainside plantation.
those kalamnsi i could not get enough of it with the grilled fish kalamansi with a bit of salt to dip the fish :D
Wow lucky man
I miss lanzones, tambis, santol , caymito and bread fruit.
Awsome place 👍🏻🇦🇺
What a nice property:-) it kinda give me an idea on what to built/plant on my own yard.i love the grilled window.gotta have the screen.i hate mosquitos and flies.
Wow that place was awesome and sure he spend alot of money on that. Thumbs up!!
John West Actually, I don't think he spent a whole lot of money on his place. I didn't ask, but his the price of land in his area isn't super high (especially since he bought it over five years ago), and his house is of a simple, but very sturdy, design.
Wood ash contains Potash good for flowering for fruit!
Al got a nice set up . I enjoy reading your commentary , it's pretty funny.
Thanks man. Al is a cool dude and he's got a nice place, custom built to just the way he wants it.
Amazing place
Great video.
I see a guy like Al and I realize how little i have used my brain to absorb or apply any information during my lifetime and im over 1/2 his age so Im not on a good pace to catch up any time soon. :)
Holy smokes, from Alaska to P.I..Like a different universe. Nicely set up Homestead.Really enjoyed this as I am making the move from US to Philippines myself in coming months, life is far to complicated in the states these days. I won't get into American woman as you fellas already know that deal, hahaa Thank you Al for sharing some of your life with us.
Informative video.
Wow,that place is amazing :) thanks for sharing this.
Great video very nice place his got there.
That was assume, how many sq meters was his place ? Did he say the neighbor pays 30,000 Pesos a year property taxes ? His house is so nice, love the high ceilings and wide open rooms.
beautiful!
when he is talking only thing comes to mind is stan lee >> im finding myself commenting a lot :D
Wow nice cool house, ideal for the weather 1 to 3K pesos tax for a concrete house? Its ok if it is a rented house it'll earn enough to pay tax and extra passive income.Yes I intend to get engineer to get proper measurement that is important; that is where neighbours fight between the partition! Thanks for the video,! Was that lanzones he planted, oh I could eat a bowl of it! Lots of tips, thanks guys! You are absolutely right Philip Labra; Money grow in the land if you know how to cultivate and plant crops at certain time alongside each other and Alternately to complement each other for a good fertile soil which will compensate your efforts all year round!
very nice retirement home.
cool old man! he makes me laugh!
Yeah, it's one of my favorite videos. Al is good people and a straight shooter - both figuratively and literally.
So jealous 🙂
i liked al's comment about the ciggy butts i always put mine in my pocket its just a habit lol ya he sure does have i nice place there
Al is a frikken groovy dude! A real salt of the earth guy. I put my butts in my pocket, too - field strip em like we learned in the military.
so cool a setup my dream some day
Also try atis, sineguelas, pico, etc.
Lanzones are masarap!..my next favorite after Philippine Mangoes. -:)
I haven't tried them yet, but I got to be honest and say I am not a fan of mangoes. :(
Too bad..maybe u had tried the "bad" ones -:(usually d fake ones). Palawan mangoes even better they say and I think I agree. Also, You're close to Bacolod city.. Checkout their chicken inasal. Bobby Flay will be no match -:). Enjoy
I am surprised to read about the lansones fruit . I buy them at markets, when itys the lansones season ( oktober/november) all over the place for between 40 and 60 pesos a kilo. Everybody knows that ..
Al is cool. really a nice place. wonder is there any problems with rain coming in with all the openness and venting in walls? How long will those trees produce that fruit do you know? Well looks like Al has it going on, another good vid and info, guess i need to start changing my diet adding a lot more fruit
lol watch the smoke hehhehe thats the best i needed that laugh im just picturing him doing that behind a sniper rifle :( too much gaming lately maybe :(
can ou grow rub red grapefruit
Als a funny guy. I wonder how much he spent setting up his place ? Just a large nipa hut would be nice . Taxes were in us ? Thanks , Great video. Aloha
Thanks! Al is quite the character and definitely a self-made man. The taxes were in USD, yes. When we were in Dauin, we were in a nipa/wood native house. It was nice and cool, but living without any types of screens were kind of a bummer.
Philippine Dreams Al didn't mention anything about mosquitos, with no screens. Maybe a mosquito net over the bed would help.
Hi Ned, Did Al told you how big is his land/homestead?
245 pesos per kilo as what he said is exaggeration. The most popular and the sweetest lansones in the Philippines is from Camiguin Island.
helen crea 300-600 per kilo for grafted longkongs - www.dizonexoticfruittrees.com/lanzones/
How many Hectar's is the farm, I own a small call center in Makati, my honey loves farming and would love to own a place like this. For me cooler air is critical so I would want something in the coolest part of PH. How much was his farm. And is that realistic that he will make 2 million or so peso a year from 100 trees? A 500 tree farm would give you a nice 200 to 300k dollar income per year. Then whats the cost to turn raw land into a producer in 6 years vs. just buying a producing farm.
Ivan Greenhut The figures are correct. But you never know what Mother Nature has in store. Check out Tanay if you are seeking out cooler temps. I am thinking about it myself at some future point.
i think those trees are what we call lychee with a brown soft outer skin and a white very sweet white flesh and stone inside. Native of Thailand.
I think so - all I know is that Al will be making bank once they start fruiting next year. Gotta stay on his good side.....
They're different from Lychees. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lychee. Here are some infor on lanzones en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lansium_parasiticum.
Who despatches the chicken s
What is the old man talking about. No one can hear his whisper.
that's Lungkong not langkong.
I think it can be spelled a few ways. Longkong actually seems used more. Regardless, at 450-600 pesos a kilo, it's a durn expensive fruit! I would feel guilty eating it. :)
American in not a rich Country. And a lot of homeless People too like in Philippines.
So, how do you managed with your Financial things if you are in Philippines
holly jack up billy
I wondered, what Kind of Job you do in Philippines. Or what Kind of Job you do in America. Can you managed to go there every year. Or stayed there for free in house of you girlfriend or wife, whatever.
