This solo on Caravanserai was originally played by Neal Schon. Although he was not credited on the album, he did do the solo. Proper Guitar Fret Positioning.
Song of the wind is such a technical masterpiece by Carlos. Your rendition was spot on. Your attention to the exact bend octave was perfect. Your mute at the right moment before the next note, I was impressed. Thanks for sharing. Beautifully played Mike
Thanks, Mike just make a note: Neal Schon played this whole solo, except for the end where Carlos dropped in. It was Neil's way of paying his dues. Fascinating for me when I discovered that working at the plant Studios cutting a buddy Miles album. More later and thanks for the compliment. D
I did it for a reference. It's not perfect, but it's close enough.. next one's gonna be blues for Narda. It's on this RUclips channel. If you want to check it out, everything is me except for Narada Michael Walden on drums. Thanks man.

I really should go back and do it right. It was a quick and dirty and I made two mistakes jumped back to where I should've been. I guess it's close enough for Govt work.
More than 50 years ago, it started with samba pa-ti, but soon later, caravanserai appeared and I was caught... Even it is such an amazing title, I ve never heard it life during one of his concerts in Germany... Thanks a lot!
Just picked this up. Thanks a lot. just practicing a lot playing my music on the channel. I have another one coming up that's pretty cool. I cut Mataji, because it's too damn long and I'm gonna edit it down and remix it. Thanks. More later, D
Magnificent interpretation of the solo by Schon (16/17 years old?) and Santana, I've been waiting for it for years (done well) and only now have I found it, thanks
Hey, thanks. I could've done it better, but it was a quick and dirty for a student who needed to know the positioning. That's the hard part about the whole thing is where to go and where the hand is supposed to be when it was played it's all over the neck. Jumping from the 12th to the fifth fret, that's the goody and the single note on the sixth string sliding down from the 12th to the death. Those are the ones that most people don't understand cause it's all on one string.. By the way, I played this solo note for note in 1972. 73. We were all playing like this at least the ones that practiced their ass off. I have to say there weren't many of us that have lasted as long as Neal, myself and several other people in the local San Francisco Bay area. Thanks again,
Sorry SamC, I was there all the way back to Rorke in Palo Alto. This is a situation where Neal had to pay his dues. Neal played the solo. Carlos played at the end. That's that. And if you start believing everything the websites say then you better go play your guitar and practice more. :-) www.drewyoungs.com
@@drewyoungs That might explain why Carlos never plays it live with the Santana band.......because he can't. Perhaps back in the mid 70's when he was at his technical best he could have pulled it off, but not anymore. Yeah in 2016 he and Neil did a jam version at the reunion concert but that came nowhere close to the beauty of the original recorded version. As for you in this video....Great job !
Nice soulful playing of the "Song of the Wind" on that YAMAHA SG Sunburst. If i may say so it would have been better using a Backing Track for "Song of the Wind" you can get it on RUclips itself just search for it so one can hear your guitar playing much better. If i may correct you it was not only Neal Schon playing on the Track there was Carlos Santana too the traded licks during the song both played Gibson Sunburst Les Paul's Neal's Les Paul got ripped off and Carlos gave his away as a present. Tough to decide which guitarist is which. In an interview, i read Neal Schon started and finished, with Carlos Santana taking up the middle stint. Caravanserai, Welcome and Borboletta are my favourite Santana albums. If you have a chance listen to "Yours Is The Light" on the Welcome album there are great covers on RUclips also.
This is a tutorial for the positioning of the hand. I made a couple of mistakes but I had a bang it out quick for a friend. I will do it again sometime and I will take your advice that would be cool I'd love to have something like that. Thank you, Drew P.S. Carlos plays on the end that's it. I grew up with Carlos and Neal I'll get my fusion Iris stuff up sometime in the future. I had to go to RUclips because somebody decided to destroy my site.
@@drewyoungs Thanks for the feedback. I've been a Santana fan for the last 45 Years and grow up too with them also Neal Schon's and Gregg Rolie's group called "Journey" as well. So is also Mahavishnu John McLaughlin still is one of my favourites. Had the chance to visit both of them at rehearsals. To get back to "Song of the Wind" Carlos said during an interview: We did as half and half. We both traded off a lot.
Thanks @UCpKwOB-0tqIFpJZPRZflmbQ but No. Neal played the solo, Carlos played at the end. Now if you were born in Palo Alto and hung out at the rehearsals then yeah, I might say you were right. You're getting it from the horses mouth not from some freaking website that somebody thinks they know what they're talking about. Hey find me and give a call. Or you can leave a message at the Plant Records and Sausalito. Leave your number and I'll call you back. 415-332-6100
This was amazing… does anyone know who played what parts of that song? I’ve heard it was all Carlos and all Neal and of course that the traded parts but I’ve never heard anyone break down who did what… thanks!

awesome Great stuff! Santana lovers everywhere put your lights on!
Just remember Neal Schon did the solo. You can hear Carlos come in at the end.

Bien sur. Parfait.
Remember guys, this isn't perfect but at least shows you where the positions are on the neck,
if you ever decide to play the solo.

That's factually wrong, both Santana and Schon played it as a duo, Schon never did it solo as countless web sites will confirm.

Good playing and I always thought it was Santana who played it but it was Neal Schon! Thanks!
Thanks for listening
It is Santana... & Neal intermingling.
Yes, like Sam C. who doesn't know what he's talking about, Neal played the solo.
Carlos played at the end.
