Matt, I have to say this. I never would have become Catholic (but I don’t know the future of course) if it weren’t for Catholic channels like yours. If it weren't for social media and RUclips I never would have converted to Catholicism. I think Matt is dead wrong about leaving social media. For some individuals it's good but as a general rule... I wouldn't be a Catholic as well if it wasn't for these channels, but I also quit almost all of social media. And I think eventually I will use none of it anymore. Maybe it's the call of guys like us to bring people into the Church in the real world.
Both sides have a valid point to make. It is a tool that can be used for great good (evangelization, growing in the faith, and apologetics). But social media has also been engineered to exploit human psychology and be as addictive as possible, so it should be used with great prudence and temperance. Some things that help for example are keeping in mind why you're opening it in the first place (being very intentional), and having very strict time limits on it. Otherwise, it can very easily turn into the Lotus Casino in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

For me, the biggest Achilles heel for a social media platform is when there's some degree of anonymity. For one thing, it makes it easier to forget that there's a flesh and blood human being on the other side of the conversation. For another, it allows you to say or do whatever you want without accountability. Like, if you post on Facebook, odds are, the people who are going to see it are people you actually know, and they'll hold you accountable for it. Whereas, on Twitter or Reddit or something, the poster is just a name, with or without an avatar, and on 4Chan, it's just a random string of characters that changes when you hop into a new thread. At the 36:00 mark it makes me think about the doctrine of soul sleep. I really was into the idea through college because I learned about Sheol from the perspective of Seventh Day Adventists. Now I’ve changed my mind on soul sleep. If we are a soul, then the material body God gave us would have no impact on our spiritual health. I’m beginning to think that we can’t be just souls with bodies because our connection to the body is critical to who we are. The Catholic understanding of perfect unity between the soul we have and the body we have that help make us who we are also points to the fullness of Christ the God-Man, fully God and fully Man who had that perfect union of body and soul. Thanks for sharing Trent!
Oh my, Jesus Forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, LEAD ALL SOULS TO HEAVEN, especially those most in need of your mercy. This is the hope of BISHOP BARRON. I do not know why people always attack Bishop Barron.
I’m not Catholic, I’m a Latter-Day Saint, but I found your channel recently and I admire your faith in God. You’re full of the light of Christ, and God works through you to bless others, particularly in your raising awareness of pornography, one of the great plagues of our day. God bless brother.
Trent, yes! Les Miserables!!! Thank you! I knew I loved you. The most beautiful work of fiction ever!!!! I was so moved by the musical that I immediately asked for singing lessons when I was 12. I've seen it 4 times and I've read the book in both English and French before grade 10. Not sure if anyone agrees with me, but word to the easily bored, there is a huge section in the middle describing the battle of Waterloo and I just skip it. I didn't feel like it added anything to the story. Hugo was writing at the same time as Dickens and they got paid per word, so I think it was just added to stuff the word count. Tell me if I'm wrong. But it is SO BEAUTIFUL, that story has informed most of my post adolescent development, just wonderful. I wish my husband would watch it. Maybe I could get him to read it...🤔
Hugh Jackman looked like Valjean? Hmm mmmm, gonna say no. Of anyone who played Valjean I would say Gérard Depardieu is the closest in appearance. The man is supposed to be huge and awesomely strong. Jackman in Les Mis is no wolverine, and is wolverine even that strong?
On the topic of books for people looking into Catholicism/Christianity I recommend Frank Sheed’s book A Map of Life for basics if you want something even shorter than Why We are Catholic
@PintsWithAquinas hey Trent Horn I’m Protestant considering converting to Catholicism, I send you a DM on Facebook a while back, but we’re not friends on there so I’m not sure if you would have gotten it. The biggest struggle for me is while it seems like there are a lot of Catholic sounding church fathers, there are a lot of Protestants that will use them to show how they were actually more like Protestants. I recently read a book called Long Before Luther with pages of quotes from early church fathers that sound a lot closer to Protestantism. Do you know of any sources that would deal with misuse of early church fathers?
Y'all should try to talk to Chris Williamson. He has a lot of really interesting discussions about the dynamics between men and women, but from a thoroughly non-religous perspective. I think it would be really cool to interface with his perspectives, as well as to show to him and his audience how many of the problems that he talks about have solutions/answers in the Catholic tradition.
I so agree! Often watching him I think "Guys you don't need to reinvent the wheel, just become a practicing Catholic and find yourself a wholesome Catholic girl with a brain and a good sense of humor".
It does feel scary because we used to feel a false safety perhaps. Were we in those times building up the Church militant? Were we growing in our faith? It seems now that we must come to a point of decision. There is no more sitting on the fence. I trust that God is permissively allowing the challenges to grow and develop our faith. All for the glory of God.🙏
around 1:45:30 When someone attacks your body, they attack you, but only because your body is alive, i.e., ensouled. If they attack your corpse, then they're not attacking you, because your corpse is dead, i.e., not ensouled, no longer you, and no longer even really yours, no longer even properly speaking human. The principle is, a dead dog isn't a kind of dog, it's a former dog.
@@Malygosblues Yours in what sense? Certainly not in a legal sense. Your mortal remains, like your former earthly possessions, pass into legal possession of your next of kin (or whatever is stipulated in your will or in whatever inheritance laws apply in your case). Question: On what principle do you think your body is yours while you are alive? Follow-up question: Does that principle still apply when you are dead?
1:51:50 I'm from a parallel universe where we took up violence to protect the unborn. And it's a failure. We lost and we took the role of the bad guy. Now, abortion is celebrated, legalized and encouraged. 300M unborn babies are killed a year and is steadily rising. We always think we have the worst situations and we always have the perfect solutions. Most of the time we are brave because we don't actualize our suggestions.
Steins Gate, Best story telling of all time in anime genre. Jimmy, Matt and Trent gonna love it. Its on Netflix. Watch in this order SG season 1 SG 0 SG Déjà vu
@@elf-lordsfriarofthemeadowl2039 Bro. Many says first 12 episodes is dragging. Maybe yes. But not for me. Trust me and maybe grind thru the first 12. Before, i am very picky on media story content. re what happens when we die - 3rd possibility - we step into eternity. which is timeless. ie time is a construct so we don't have to experience everything at once. we are 'reborn' into life with Christ [or not if we rejected Him] . Judgement then purgatory if we need cleaning up before beatific vision and our next adventure.
Ok, so if you can't tell I am stopping to comment every time I hear something interesting. So now you're talking about care for the soul and the body, and Trent went into a bit of a tangeant about whether one exists as a person between death and the second coming. I lean the same way as Trent does, but then I can't square that with purgatory. Is it just your soul that exists in purgatory? That doesn't seem to make sense in terms of sanctification if it is not the whole person. Would love to hear more on this topic.
Hey guys! If you're searching for a none woke comic to read, you could check out the Rippaverse. It's a project done by a youtuber who got sick of the woke in comics and decided to make his own. So far he has sold a lot of his first issue and made 3 million dollars. Pretty amazing thing.
I appreciated the conversation on social media. But some interesting cognitive dissonance when the boys seem to think "one on one" is better than "social media," but then Trent says he never wastes his time getting into arguments (i.e., "one on one") on Twitter.
Lol, Matt I can totally relate to you ruining a story by demanding it be true. My husband is a talker, he loves telling stories, but they change every time he tells them, he is super prone to hyperbole and sometimes he just flat out gets things wrong, and I try so hard to stop myself but sometimes I'm just like, that is NOT what happened!!!! You HAVE TO KNOW THIS OR I AM CRAZY!!!!! And no, usually he really believes his version, even though it changed 5 times.
Corruptionism is wrong. The body exists for the sake of the soul, the soul does not exist for the sake of the body. You can and should sacrifice your body for the sake of your soul, because your soul is you and your body is not. (Therefore your soul is you, and your body is not; and your soul is you and you are saved, even if your body is not -- or at least not yet, after it has disintegrated and prior to the resurrection.)
While it is reasonable to worry about the state of the Church, have faith that it is guided by the Holy Spirit and remember that His kingdom is not of this world. Look past the turbulence and remember that in the end the veil will be lifted and all will see the truth.
Neither Trent nor Matt attend regular, Catholic, Novus Ordo Catholic churches, and yet here they are every week arguing that they're in agreement with Pope Francis that the Novus Ordo Mass is really the only truly orthodox Mass in the RCC. If your own favorite professional Catholic apologists can't stomach going to the Novus Ordo Mass, then some might say they're not being quite honest with you about their fidelity to Catholic teachings.
@@mlongjr4223 Have you not read anything about what Pope Francis says on this topic? The pope is always the current authority on how Catholics worship, and he's limiting the extraordinary forms of the Mass. If these 2 apologists hate the Mass that the Pope says everyone should embrace, then they're not really personally buying what they're selling.
@@SaintCharbelMiracleworker I think his point is that Fradd and Horn spend a lot of time defending the NO, but they do not go themselves. There should be some serious hedging on their part in their apologia of the average American Novus ORdo, given that they go out of their way to aboid them in real life. To be fair, they actually do that hedging. They aren't as bad as Michael Lofton or something.
I wouldn't be Catholic if it wasn't for both you and Trent's youtube channels! Maybe it isn't the best type of evangelizing, but it helps teach. Thank you!
I’m in RCIA this year and loving it! I’m converting from Protestantism. Please pray for me because I’m dealing with a lot of loneliness and I feel isolated from my Protestant friends as I don’t think they’d understand what I’m doing.
Your Protestant friends if they are truly christian they will accept your Christianity as a Catholic. I ran a catholic prayer group for several years and most were actually Protestant and they all learned to have a great respect for Catholics. They experienced Truth rather than the lies said about Catholics. They even learned the truth about the rosary that we see Mary as our Spiritual Mother and see her as living like we ourselves. Some have difficulty understanding that when we ask each other for prayer there’s no difference between us asking for prayer for our brothers and sisters and asking for the Saint’s to pray for us.
Praying for you, friend! I lost all my friends too (I was an atheist) but God sent me better friends. It happened gradually over three years but now I have the most wonderful collection people in my life. God is good ❤

I think Trent Horn is right about having a level of charity and benefit of the doubt towards the Quran as you would want a Muslim to have towards the Bible, because when I've practiced this it goes really far in making dialogues with Muslims go much smoother, better, and deeper. I feel we come to a deeper level of understanding of each others faiths and gives each other inside access to the intricacies of the others faiths, and it's interesting. Now obviously, this has to be done in a way where we try and bring the Muslim to an understanding of the Gospel, and in a way that isn't univeralistic or relativistic. But it is really fascinating.
Maybe you have that stupid power Matt made up where you can pull your pants down and save the infidels. Or be the beatbox botch that Trent made up and do some kung fu fighting You can do what the heretic JP2 did, dialogue with the infidels by worshiping in their pagan temple. The Catholic understanding of perfect unity between the soul we have and the body we have that help make us who we are also points to the fullness of Christ the God-Man, fully God and fully Man who had that perfect union of body and soul. Thanks for sharing Trent!
Matt played Warcraft 2 and listens to Sabaton! I need to meet you IRL
Sid Meier’s Colonization, anyone remember that one?
Oh my, Jesus Forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, LEAD ALL SOULS TO HEAVEN, especially those most in need of your mercy.
This is the hope of BISHOP BARRON. I do not know why people always attack Bishop Barron.
I think the big reason is from how he could have been interpreted as there being paths to salvation that do not include Christ
Some "How to be Catholic" might be Fr. Trigilio's "Catholicism for Dummies" in the "for Dummies" series.
So I should stop telling Calvinists that they embrace a theology of nihilism.😂
It does feel scary because we used to feel a false safety perhaps. Were we in those times building up the Church militant? Were we growing in our faith? It seems now that we must come to a point of decision. There is no more sitting on the fence. I trust that God is permissively allowing the challenges to grow and develop our faith. All for the glory of God.🙏
Before I watch this...Why is this episode so short? Were you in a rush? 😁
around 1:45:30 When someone attacks your body, they attack you, but only because your body is alive, i.e., ensouled. If they attack your corpse, then they're not attacking you, because your corpse is dead, i.e., not ensouled, no longer you, and no longer even really yours, no longer even properly speaking human. The principle is, a dead dog isn't a kind of dog, it's a former dog.
I'm not sure I agree. I think my body remains mine even if not ensouled.
Best movie of all time: City Lights (1931)

I'm from a parallel universe where we took up violence to protect the unborn.
Love the new intro...
Jim Caviezel and Dennis Quaid is a super based lineup ngl
"I'm a jedivacantist" LOL. Also, strongly seconding the 10th Anniversary Cast of Les Miserables.
1:10:18 Nobody is turning away from the church over Pachamama Matt, that is definitely your InternetBrain showing
Trent Horn is the best!!!
Looking forward to Interior Castle
Intro music is killer
Gotta love the lofi intro
Wasn't Trent Horn in Top Gun Maverick?
Anniversary is better than the 10th anniversary of Les Mis. Alfie Boe Best Jean Valjean
I meant the 25th. Lol
I know my cousin bought a Peter kreeft book off of tik tok! So I will say there can be good.
Steins Gate, Best story telling of all time in anime genre. Jimmy, Matt and Trent gonna love it. Its on Netflix.
Watch in this order
SG season 1
SG 0
SG Déjà vu
Really, I thought it was very slow and tells more through flashbacks and talking than by doing
@@elf-lordsfriarofthemeadowl2039
Bro. Many says first 12 episodes is dragging. Maybe yes. But not for me. Trust me and maybe grind thru the first 12.
Before, i am very picky on media story content. Now I'm super picky.
Steins Gate trumps all the greats. Such as AOT, Overlord, Your Name. Steins Gate is on another level. Something Jimmy and Trent could ascent in respect to fictional genre.
Trent’s thoughts in the blip about losing friends and family over the faith really hit home!
Citizen Kane and Raising Arizona are both great films. I'm strongly resisting the urge to thumb you down 3 1/2 minutes into a 2 1/2 hour podcast.
i'm a year late but Free Guy is a great movie.
Universal is evil
hi good sirs, do you know if your excellent books are available in translations? i'd like to read them but prefer native language.
Best new movie is “Black Phone” 👌
re what happens when we die - 3rd possibility - we step into eternity. which is timeless. ie time is a construct so we don't have to experience everything at once. we are 'reborn' into life with Christ [or not if we rejected Him] . Judgement then purgatory if we need cleaning up before beatific vision and our next adventure.
M: Oh, Tekken V?
T: Yeah. _Fatality!_

lol wrong game Trent :)
Question on overcoming the Calvinist theory that once saved, always saved.
Its not biblical for a start.
If I wasn’t already Catholic, this much fun and humor would make me convert, even if I was already Mel Brooks
I clicked on the vid because of the namr
I was really hoping his name would be "Council" and he changed it to "Trent"...
Clytemnestra is her name.
And no, usually he really believes his version, even though it changed 5 times.
so they started out talking about how long intros suck, and they do a long intro that sucks
Real name or full name? It’s not that bad
@YAJUN YUAN maybe this is why nine inch nails songs are so totes emotes
Someone do timestamps
Amazon has The Terminal list so maybe they are waking up to woke-averse audience
Get a ton. lol
Ok you Aussie goof. Americana is perfectly distilled into the top gun films faults and all.
I love Matt. He can be a bit of a harsh Luddite sometimes though
Halo life
President Trump has a remarkable record, which SHOULD matter. America probably doesn’t deserve him. Hope you are enjoying the Biden experience.
Peter Sonski clears both
love trent horn, but i do think he badly lost the debate against imam the other day
I think both guys were out of their expertise in the debate. They conflated many concepts and did not define terms well.
Go ahead and quit YT, Matt. We’ll watch Trent.
Y'all need to read some manga
Why?
Neither Trent nor Matt attend regular, Catholic, Novus Ordo Catholic churches, and yet here they are every week arguing that they're in agreement with Pope Francis that the Novus Ordo Mass is really the only truly orthodox Mass in the RCC. If your own favorite professional Catholic apologists can't stomach going to the Novus Ordo Mass, then some might say they're not being quite honest with you about their fidelity to Catholic teachings.
Dude what are you talking about?
The Church doesn’t teach that only the Novus ordo is right
@@mlongjr4223 Have you not read anything about what Pope Francis says on this topic? The pope is always the current authority on how Catholics worship, and he's limiting the extraordinary forms of the Mass. If these 2 apologists hate the Mass that the Pope says everyone should embrace, then they're not really personally buying what they're selling.
@@joeoleary9010 we have 23 Rites of liturgical worship. All are valid equally. Novus Ordo is only one of the rites.
Who cares? Relevant topics, please. Tired of “let’s-shoot-the-breeze-aren’t-we-cool” podcasts.
I wouldn't be Catholic if it wasn't for both you and Trent's youtube channels! Maybe it isn't the best type of evangelizing, but it helps teach. Thank you!
Praise God 🙏🙌 I will pray for you
I’m in RCIA this year and loving it! I’m converting from Protestantism. Please pray for me because I’m dealing with a lot of loneliness and I feel isolated from my Protestant friends as I don’t think they’d understand what I’m doing.
Keep your head up. You're making the right decision. I'm praying for you.
God is good ❤
Thanks so much - you guys are great! Although I'm not Catholic myself, I've picked up a book called, The Catholic Catalog: A Field Guide to the Daily Acts That Make Up a Catholic Life. It's a delightful resource for any Christian, I think, but especially for those wishing to live out their Catholicism more fully. Again, thanks to both of you for your guidance and your wisdom. You do a great service.
"Memorare" prayed for you "Everkang" although you are not Catholic yet, may you be completely Christian by entering the one holy catholic apostolic Church! asap!
Jesus is God and the Catholic Church and He are inseparable!
Another "Memorare" pray for the salvation of souls!
Pray for me as I pray for you to gain heaven by God's grace through no merit of our own! Written on the 24th Sunday of Ordinary Time! September 17, 2023

Or be the beatbox botch that Trent made up and do some kung fu fighting
You can do what the heretic JP2 did, dialogue with the infidels by worshiping in their pagan temple. Then kiss koran like he did. This way you really get that smoother, deeper understanding without those ilistics nonsense. Don't do what Christ told you to do and don't do what the apostles did. Be completely ecumenicalistic about it.
I absolutely agree with you on this point.
Maybe you can get that stupid power Matt made up where you pull down your pants and save the infidels. Or be the beatbox beach that Trent made up and do some kyg fun fighting. Just do what the heretic JP2 did. Dialogue with the enemies of God and worship with them in the pagan temple. Then kiss the Koran like he did.
The title of this video is the funniest thing I've ever heard. I don't know why, it just really makes me happy.
Hearing Trent Horn talk about starting Jui Jitsu is honestly making me want to return to it more than 100 of my friends asking me to go back.
Do it.
Oh man, missed the livestream. Love Trent! So smart and intelligent!
Matt, after hearing your best worst super powers I wanna have a beer with you.
I love the name Trenton.
It's absolutely something your mother calls you, while all your friends call you Trent.
My son is Jeffery, which I call him, and friends call him Jeff...which I just couldn't do!
Though I have a few friends of my own that I call Jeff...go figure!
Yeah, people call me Jake often, but I'm Jacob. I don't correct people because that would be annoying and pretentious, but whenever someone asks: I am what my mother named me.
I don’t think I’ll be okay if this superhero movie never gets made 😂 can we all commit to rosaries for Baby Face, starring Ryan Reynolds 🙏🙏🙏
