Why Conservatives Don't Understand War (2024)

  • When talking about a second American civil war, many conservatives would argue that an armed right-wing insurgency would be able to overpower the federal government and military of the United States, pointing to the Vietnam War and War in Afghanistan as examples of ragtag insurgencies and militias overpowering the US, but not only is the right misunderstanding why the Vietcong and Afghan insurgents won those conflicts, but the comparison between these examples and the United States is a false comparison because the situations are vastly different. This is why conservatives don't understand insurgency.

Americans have a warped view of what civil war means because of our own “civil war.” Civil war is random. Random car bombs, getting shot at the coffee shop, people taking advantage and settling personal vendettas. America did not have a “civil war.” We split into two countries and had a regular war.

Neither side in the US understands how a modern war works. Both sides generally believe that theyll get a notification on their phone saying "civil war has begun! Which side are you on?!?" And they generally think it will be two armies lining up in front of one another. A real war is fought by an insurgency with a decentralized network. You will never know the soldiers fighting for the insurgency. They will work a 9-5 job, they will appear normal on the surface. In reality, they are working to purchase ammo from black market dealers and foreign nations and raiding under defended military bases, patrols, and attacking logistics, slowly turning the people against the government by forcing the ruling government to enact more and more draconian laws.

    • @ZalamaTheDragonGod

@@accountname9506 it's exactly that that will cause a federal "defeat". The left is relentless and will do whatever it takes to get what they want. They don't care how many need to die to achieve their goals, if it's what the establishment wants, they will throw people into a meat grinder to get it. The government controls *legacy* media, which is seeing massive rating drops over the past few years since 2020. What CNN says reaches only the urbanites and those who were never going to even consider siding with the right. Most people get their news from independent sources the government currently can't control.
No, the insurgents do not need to kill civilians to get a government overreaction. Like I said, with a small squad of maybe 5-10 people, attack small convoys and under defended police stations, military outposts, checkpoints, etc. This will force a government response that will likely consist of curfews, ID checks, random searches, frequent checkpoints, etc. This will rub the local populace the wrong way and will lead to one of 2 outcomes: the locals blame the government for these increased security measures and join the insurgents or they will blame the insurgents and help the government find and arrest the insurgents. Each town and city will have different reactions. Some will stay loyal, some will rebel and join the insurgents, or they can be split down the middle.

You're making a lot of erroneous assumptions about what a "rightwing" insurgency would look like. Assuming no state governments got involved, at most you would be looking at a resistance. Rightwingers would have 0 interest in taking control of the federal government by force. The playbook would be mass disregard of federal power. We have already seen a test case of this with sheriffs publicly refusing to enforce certain gun laws.
Besides this I'm not convinced the US military is prepared to project power within the US borders. We have been focused almost entirely on expeditionary forces all over the world since WWII. All branches are understaffed. The globalist uniparty is not going to mass redeploy troops to the homeland to enforce military law in the vast, sparsely populated interior. If they did it would damage their world domination plans to a point that the "rightwing" would claim it as a victory. The rules of engagement would be crippling. How many Wacos or Ruby Ridges would it take to sour the public on support for the military? In order to enforce military law they would have one every month. Would the public support drone strikes on US civilians in the US? Does the Navy and Coast Guard even have enough river warships to patrol the interior?
I don't think any of this is going to happen, but if something happens it's going to be the response of the government that tears the country apart not the resistance. All we have to do is continue existing.

I'm a conservative and I don't want a Civil War, because it would destroy this country. I believe that we should first pursue peaceful means to our grievances. We should only view War as a last resort when we don't have any other choice. I pray that may never have too use that last resort.

The strategy is from the higher officers and the White House, people who wouldn't debate on such a RUclips video. It would be horrific, vastly more terrible than the 1861 to 1865 war. WW2 type casualty numbers, easily I. A drawn out war lasting a few years. We have an armed Population, with as many guns as people, an extremely dangerous, unprecedented scenario.

Before I clicked on this video, I was hoping you'd address what my counter was, and you never do. So, I'm afraid the one who doesn't understand warfare is you:
1: With conservatives primarily wanting to be left alone, what do you think the odds are that Americans in the military, who have American families of their own, would fire upon their countrymen without hesitation, regardless how much propaganda they're fed? Some would, don't get me wrong, but all or even most of them? Ridiculous. You keep addressing this as "Our troops won't betray the government." The accurate way to think of this is: "Many of our troops won't want shoot at either side." Most people in the military, of every rank, will think, "Wait, these guys just want to be left alone. Do I really want to massacre them because my CO said so?"
2: Reality setting in. War is a hell of a wake-up call. If it becomes a full-scale conflict, whiny college campus rhetoric will swiftly take a backseat, if not forgotten completely, when the economy crashes because half the country is fighting the other. Reality will wake up a lot of delusional people when life gets so much harder. Being left-wing these days is little more than ranting on the internet and holding up signs at a college campus. The harshness of reality will cause EVERYONE to seriously rethink their perception of reality. That in itself will severely weaken the Left's appeal. Obviously, there will always be a "Left," but when reality hits hard, it makes many people right-wing or at least sympathetic to the Right. I'm saying EVERYONE will wake up to the realities of family importance, responsibility, survival skills, etc., and thus severely weaken the impact of the nonsense left-wing rhetoric that has turned the Left so batshit crazy the past couple decades.
    3. Think about it. It won't be right-versus-left so much as it'll be private citizens versus a bloated government. In other words, the Right will have the advantage from the start, for several reasons, but the main reason being that most people will refuse to side with the elites who are only perpetuating the conflict just to remain rich and in power.

Your first point illustrates my biggest issue with his analysis, it's not going to be the right starting things. Because they just want to be left alone, so why would they start something?
It's not going to be oh wow look at these crazy right-wingers just blowing up Bridges and stuff, it's more likely to be as you say why is my CO telling me to shoot up this family living alone on top of a mountain, over some spicy tweets?
When the federal government violently over reaches enough times they are going to burn their Bridges with the military.
That's why the winning play for right-wing civilians isn't to instigate a civil war but to let the federal government overplay its hand.
An actual Civil War is much more likely to come from leftist overreaction to a supposed right-wing cultural victory on some issue

But while there have been some big headline far right attacks in the US, the vast majority of calls to "tear down the government" as well as violent organized actions to do the same have come from the far left in recent years. Very well thought out video and I have to agree on the central premise that guerilla rebels simply do not win conflicts without the backing of outside forces. Your next claim is that any outside faction will obviously staunchly support the Federal Group against the Rebels, except for maybe Russia and China, which you claim won't have much of an impact. While nobody knows for sure, I believe this is where your analysis falls dead wrong. Take the US out of the global military equation and Russia, China, and India are the next 3 in line both in size of militaries, military spending, nuclear arsenal, etc. They are all members of BRICKS, which has the stated goal of suplanting US/EU hegemony over the global economy and trade (petrodolar etc). Add in the fact that oh so many Europeans actually look resentfully at the US as a 'nice enough but still an asshole' overlord, I believe MOST nations around the world would pour support into ANY US rebels, left-wing, right-wing or otherwise simply to topple their biggest economic enemy: The US Federal Gov't. The Feds would still be a strong faction backed by (2/3s) of the US Military and UK, Nordic Countries, Poland, Germany (maybe), and France (maybe). This will likely evolve horribly into WW3 fought on US soil.

    The strawmen abound.
In the event that the only emergent conservative manifestation to this conflict is military insurgency, this video would be good, and all of the conclusions do apply to those idiots.
However, to say that the conservatives don't understand war and that the military will not break to the right overlooks two f-k-g enormous factors that will come into play: The Convention of the States and the Oath of Enlistment.
If the current trends continue, the situation will become untenable to the not-wacko civilians who will demand that their state legislatures flex their power to reign in the federal government. Based on the 2022 Senatorial results, the red states need 6 more to call a convention. Those 6 would likely include GA, VA, PA, NH, and AZ. I don't think it's a stretch at even this point to say that NJ, NV, and maybe another New England state like CT, RI, or ME would join in if for no other reason than to be "on the right side of history".
Then there's the question of honor...how much of the military honors their oaths. If they break for the Constitution as they should, any Federal rebuke of a States' convention would turn the military against the Federal government. Probably not at the Pentagon, but the military does have mechanisms to relieve commanders that act outside of the Oath. If only the flag officers, and likely not all of those, are willing to go against the Constitution, the one-stars and down can, and will likely, remove those individuals.
Everyone knows that drones with IR can delete people from the other side of the world, so no sane individual would go into the woods thinking they're going to win. That's why that's not what's going to happen!

How long the economic stress of conflict in the US would take to bring down the financial pillars supporting those "federal institutions" 2. The absolute nightmare of dealing with a insurgency within your own borders. 3. How much damage can be done to the US as a whole by attacking just a few of thousands of infrastructural weakpoints (roadways, electric grids, communications hubs). The US as a whole would be finished in any recognizable sense in only a few weeks. Whether or not that means one side or the other would emerge victorious is another question entirely, but the US would not survive.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I will argue against what you're saying in some parts.
A successionist movement would definitely have numerical superiority. Most states have successionist movements 100,000 strong or more. Most being right-wing. Couple that with all the young, impressionable men who will want to fight, militias, and prior service men and women. You will be able to match the military. The federal government will have to instate a draft which most liberals and people in general will skip out on, or start fighting against the federal government. Not to mention that with every 1,000 civilians killed by the US military, you get atleast 100 more supporters. I really don't think there's a way around the fall of the US government if civil war really did break out, there's too much distrust for the government and there's no good choices they could make in a civil war to win hearts and minds unless everyone in the US suddenly and violently becomes left wing terrorists ready to die for the feds, I don't see a US government W here.
Not to mention the technological knowledge that the general population has, it'd be a new era of war like the world has never seen. I'm talking IRA x1,000, drones in Ukraine x1,000,000, trench and urban warfare, and MOABs left and right from both factions. It would be hell, so instead of baiting people to get mad like the media does, start making videos on why voting is more effective than shooting

    2. Wrong- It would be offensive.. why the hell would you start defensive? People would already target Official buildings... by then if that were to happen- Most of the government would be taken out... However, it would take less then a week- Giving Government less time to prepare for anything..
    3. Even if the Liberals have grasped the institutions needed to have a slight higher chance of winning... do you think that anyone within the Police force Military- Or FBI wouldn't question themself to kill their own families or Countrymen? A small handful would do that.. the large majority wouldn't.
    4. Using other countries that are not our own- This isn't a very good example.. because there not our people.
    5. No our civil war won't start World War 3- NATO will and Blame Russia.. that's a known fact. They been trying that since Ukraine started its War on Russia... and has been losing... Slowly. What happens in the US isn't going to affect... Like if Ukraine Loses it's It's not going to affect us...
    6. The Military got ordered to secure the capitol... Now unless they we're told to open fire on the so called "insurrection" now that would've been a different story- That's when they would've had a possibility to question the orders.
    7. 20% at best? It be maybe about 65% at most or more- because do you think they wouldn't stop to think that killing their own country men is a good Idea? or their own families? by not saying that- that's why you think 20% at most... When I think it's higher... However, by saying the Military has a oath to the constitution to protect from both foreign and domestic... That includes the government- Because the constitution is to protect it's citizens from Government over extending it's authority... Against the American people.

This argument reminds me of Ukraine.
According to surveys, half of Ukrainians held very favorable views of Russia until the U.S supported coup in 2014.
After that, a combination of the post-coup government banning Russian (and Russia sympathetic) media in the country (hence only leaving anti-Russian media active), and Russia seizing Crimea & backing rebel republics Donetsk & Lugansk, caused the population to gradually see Russia as terrorists.
The same that would sadly probably happen to conservative U.S rebel groups.
Brainwashing is a real thing. And it's basically to only show one side of the story over and over again for years.

    • @duckhawkninja3614

First of all the only evidence that the coup was backed by the US is that some American politicians offered words of support in a phone call and the guy America wanted to win the subsequent election ended up winning. To date there hasn’t been a shred of evidence of US advisors or even a cent of funding that would point towards a color revolution.
The truth is much more complex. The Ukrainian president in 2014 was elected on the promise of increasing ties with the EU because this was widely popular with Ukrainians, especially those in the western part of the country. Yanukuvich began negotiations with the EU but seemingly overnight he pulled out of those negotiations and announced he’d be seeking increased trade relations with Russia instead. This enraged many Ukrainians especially those on the west. A deal with the EU was the promise he was elected on and he broke it. Naturally protests were sparked across Ukraine. Yanakuvich cracked down hard and violently against these protesters and eventually made protesting illegal entirely expecting this would snuff them out entirely. It had the opposite effect. Various elements that of the opposition banded together liberals, anarchists, socialists, and nationalists fought back against the crackdowns and eventually forced Yanukovich to flee the country. And installed a provisional government. This made many ethnic Russians in the east and south of Ukraine nervous as the provisional government saw Yanokuvich’s flight to Russia and the fact that the EU deal had been cancelled in favor of a Russian deal as evidence that they should cut ties with Russia entirely and go all in on the west. Fights broke out on the streets between pro coup and anti coup groups and protesters on both sides ended up dying most notably in Odessa where anti coup protesters opened fire on pro coup protesters with sniper rifles from a building only for the pro coup protesters to respond by burning the building to the ground with them in it. Russia feared that the coup government might kick the Russian Navy out of the base in Sevastopol so they took advantage of the chaos and annexed Crimea. The people of Crimea were largely in favor of this (well the ethnic Russian majority were the native Tartar minority not so much as they were already discriminated against by the Russian majority and the Russian annexation made their marginalization codified into law by making Tartar advocacy groups illegal). While the majority of the Crimean population was in favor of Russia I guarantee the referendum was faked and the actual number in favor was closer to 70% than 98%. Meanwhile an active rebellion had broken out in the Donbas and Kharkiv. The one in Kharkiv didn’t have much support from the local population and was quickly crushed while the those in the Donbas held out long enough to get Russian support and quickly entered a stalemate. In the early days of the Donbas war numerous atrocities against civilians were committed by both the rebels and pro Ukrainian militia such as the Azov Battalion. Protestants and Catholics were frequently targeted by Donbass Rebels as they were seen as western influences against Orthodoxy. Many churches were seized by the rebels to be used as ammunition stockpiles and in one instance where a Pentecostal congregation refused to leave and were slaughtered by the Donbas rebels. Petron Poreshenko won the Ukrainian election of 2014 and proceeded to request western support against the rebels. What he got was marginal at best a few radars here and there but nothing useful for combat and with Russia backing the Rebels this quickly resulted in stalemate as he implemented nationalist policies such as banning instruction of Russian language in schools. The two Minsk Agreements were signed in late 2014 and early 2015 respectively but neither side actually abided by either agreement and the fighting continued. In 2018 the goal of NATO membership was enshrined in Ukrainian constitution. In 2019 Poreshenko ran for reelection but lost soundly to Zelensky due to resounding support from ethnic Russian areas of Ukraine. No seriously more ethnically Russian an oblast was the more popular Zelensky was in that oblast and the only oblast that Porashenko won was Lviv. Zelensky promised to end the war in Donbas and immediately after taking office began negotiations with the rebels in October of 2019 a deal was struck Zelensky would allow the people of the Donbas to vote on independence on the condition that Russia withdraw its special forces first. This sparked protests against him in Ukraine, but ultimately the Russians refused to withdraw or even acknowledge they had troops in the Donbas and both the rebels and Azov refused to stop shooting at each other. Azov even accused Zelensky of acting on behalf of the Kremlin. In December of that same year Russia and Ukraine negotiated a ceasefire that went into effect in 2020. Once again neither side abided by the ceasefire but the violence did decrease by around 50%. In 2021 Russia began building up its forces along the border with Ukraine and Zelensky responded by requesting NATO members speed up the request for membership made in 2018. In January of 2022 the UN released a report that determined 14,000 people had died in the Donbas war total including soldiers and civilians on both sides. Putin blatantly lied about that report and claimed that Ukraine had slaughtered 14,000 ethnic Russian civilians, even though that 14,000 number included ethnic Ukrainian civilians, rebel fighters, and Ukrainian soldiers. In February of 2022 Russia launched its invasion.

While the Taliban and Vietcong were willing to absorb MUCH more loss than Western civil warriors would... strategically those were zero-risk conflicts for the US. We stopped when the arithmetic exceeded some arbitrary threshold and/or management just got tired of it. On home soil the costs would be exponential because you'd be destroying your own taxable assets. What size would a theoretical rebel objective have to be before it was worth military action to get control back? Pretty darn big...

You know this isn't a one side or the other argument. There is a high likelihood that large segments of the military would just stand down, refuse to go murder and oppress their fellow countrymen while not supporting them. Also without the conservative rural areas producing and sending food to the insane leftist cities, prices would skyrocket in those cities as they would have to pay an insane amount of money to ship food in especially since US food production makes up a large chunk of world food production. Without "red" state resources, the blue states would wither. It doesn't even take red states embargoing. All they have to do is refuse to work and produce more than they personally need. If they wanted to get aggressive they don't have to attack and kill people, they could just destroy the roads, bridges and rails at multiple places leading to the cities, making them dependent on expensive air shipping in country and preventing red areas resources from leaving red areas at all. Also, there is the option of tens of millions of people refusing to pay taxes and that would destroy the federal government as no one would buy its debt anymore knowing the federal government has destroyed its ability to float the system along through more debt. The military would no longer be able to pay its troops and the government would be able to buy weapons at the same time as rapidly rising prices across the board since America wouldn't be producing anything of importance. Energy prices would be insane.
Only a tiny portion of war is kinetic. Thinking one side or the other can win just because they have military power ignores how the real world works. While it isn't guaranteed the weak, urbanites used to luxury and not knowing how to survive without the safety bubble we have created would probably start rioting and resort to raiding and pillaging their neighbors. There would be mass break down. People in rural areas whether left or right know how to survive without the luxuries and have the resources. They usually have important things like oil lamps and back up oil. They also generally have real fireplaces, and their homes aren't designed to require electricity to be habitable.
A civil war would be lost by the left not because of an insurgency, but because of the complete collapse of the systems that maintain the modern world and the government. The insurgency only has to hold their regions as the cities start wrecking themselves and the government's limited resources are turned to put down the rioting and collapse in the cities. There doesn't need to be fighting just thousands of little brush fires that crush the systems of the US.
I don't advocate for this because I don't want to see so many people die, but at the same time I also think it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees and I will never support us becoming slaves to the leftist commie scum.

    • @Matt_Alaric
      @Matt_Alaric 4 месяца назад +1

This is a fantasy based on wishful thinking. Any side that controls all the cities has overwhelming advantages over the countryside in numbers and wealth. If an area "refuses" to provide food then the people get put into POW camps, the farms are requisitioned, and the food flows anyway. There is no organisation of right wingers with the means and willing to destroy huge amounts of infrastructure just off the bat. Most survivalist have advanced plans and how they will run away and hide in the mountains, which plays into left wing hands perfectly as they can effectively be ignored at that point while the left seizes all important resources.

The US doesn't have communists anywhere in the national or local governments just as there aren't any fascists. Most American leftists and rightists are moderates who would oppose a bunch of extremists rising up. If this happened, the US government would win easily and most conservatives would probably support them.

@@kamenhristov7756 That's the hope. The ideal scenario is that massive socieo-political change will occur through grassroots democratic process. Massive change without sorrow or strife that accompany civl wars. But the reality is that is not how things work in today's world and most Americans understand that. A good portion of the US population with varying political views is very disastifed with the government at a very fundamental level, and are completely disillusioned with the legal process. Face it, gone are the days when you can meaningfully impact the federal or state government simply by voting. Even senators in sparsely populated constituencies are getting millions thrown at their campaigns by outside organizations. You have courts and federal agencies that have flagrantly operate outside of our Republican system. Meanwhile we have a good chunk of the voter base that doesn't know nor cares to look into what they are actually voting for, and instead relies on brainless political ads broadcasted by bankrolled super PACs and vague notions of party lines drawn from single issues that are often irrelevant in daily life. I think a lot of people have come to the conclusion that while major civil unrest would undoubtedly result in massive tragedy, it might also bring much needed societal change, and very well might be the only way for such change to happen. Remember, the US never would have existed without violent revolution due to political dissatisfaction. As an American, especially one who has ancestry dating back to the revolution, there is a serious pressure that makes you ask "am I doing what is right for my nation?" Of course, I'm not sure. But as an American with at least a basic level of historical literacy I can not deny that many changes that were for the better only emerged from conflict.

These are humans with families and don't want to kill their own people. Most of which would likely make up some of these gorillas the op is speaking of. All of it would be very messy but to assume you would have the backing of the military is laughable at best. I disagree the Right has no chance of winning. They could win a defensive conflict. If you want an example there is a perfect one in the Irish Revolution in the 1800s which Southern Ireland won completely and did establish it's own country. All of the institutions were against Ireland, but they had large quantities of weapons, knew how to use them, and were prepared to get their hands dirty in fighting. Even in the 80s the IRA did achieve getting the English to remove the Black and Tans and make other consolidations.
Nobody knows how things would play out, but stockpiling resources does put the Right at a very healthy advantage if things go wrong.

Really don't think you understand how modern warfare works nor the will to fight. Not to mention logistics.
The United States has pulled out of two major wars/conflicts in the past 60 years. Both conflicts were against enemies vastly inferior in technology, resources, and man powerer. And currently control the countries that the US pulled out of.
Looking at the concept of a 2nd civil war, battle lines would still form, however, you assume the military would remain loyal to the government, that is never true in a civil war, the military would split. Where both sides have their issues, as we have seen in the left, they are activists not fighters. Anarchists not revolutionaries. They would run out of supplies and resources as most factory workers would not support their faction same goes for farmers. My greatest example of this would be when the liberals took control of and made the CHOP/CHAZ zone in Portland, Oregon. They starved themselves out in less than a month and dispursed.
Circling back on what I have said in the past, I like your alt history, but you are too enticed with this subject, I practically knew you were going to do another episode about this after the Trump verdict. You either are begging for a 2nd civil war to happen or you are trying to piss people off to see if it starts something, focus on healing the country rather than which side gets to rack up the bigger k/d. In the end, if america collapses every nation will feel it and it will leave room for China to take control and be the world leader with no counter to it and it's ambition.

A bunch of idiot kids LARPing at rebellion is not an indictment of the entire left being incapable. The people running most of the major businesses and governments in the western world are all left as well, as are most college educated people across the entire West. They've dominated the media and tech companies for decades for example. Any areas they don't understand they can simply employ people who do, just like Bill Gates is doing right now as he becomes the largest agricultural land owner in the entire world, and his farms aren't going out of business.
You're falling into the trap of despising your enemy, and that's a recipe for failure.
