  • The Capitalist Manifesto series features stories told by real people from around the world who experienced socialist or communist regimes.
In this series, you will hear true stories from people like…
Philip Haslam who is an economic advisor, writer, and speaker who reveals in his book, "When Money Destroys Nations" how the collapse of the Zimbabwe dollar in 2009 after years of rampant money printing is a frightening example of what lies in store for countries that resort to printing money to pay national debts, bail out banks and oligarchs, and enrich political elites.

I loved your book THE CAPITALIST MANIFESTO. As scary as it was, your writing was very easy to understand because you used the KISS method (KEEP IT SUPER SIMPLE). I am continuing to make my own money by selling clothes on eBay. I know I can sell other items on eBay to make money, but, I found this way a lot simpler and it is a lot less likely where I get a lot of returns. Thank you very much. I am looking forward to reading THE RAVEN when it comes out.

In my country Venezuela Chavez printed insane amounts of bolivars. The results showed in 9 10 years, the wave started little by little but when the wave hit it was disastrous. I remember it took 3 weeks for everything to fall apart. One week I could find chicken and meat. Next week there wasn't any chicken or meat in any supermarket, then I got fish and shrimps, third week, there was not any chicken, any meat any fish any shrimps, all frozen zone in the supermarket was completely closed in every supermarket, it was a desperate situation. All I could get was 1 package of rice and 1 liter of oil, I hit bottom that day I'll never forget, and I knew it was time to leave my beloved country against my will.

This is why i keep telling people, it doesn't matter how much Gold, Bitcoin, or Silver you own. If the entire global supply chain collapses, as it is right now, then you won't be able to purchase any goods or services with all the Gold, Silver, or Bitcoin you own.
You need Food, Water, Shelter, and Guns.
Those are the only things that will give you true value in a collapsed society. You need to stock up on Food, clean Water as well as water filters, Electric Generators, Shelter, and Guns.

I kept waiting on him to mention gold and silver, but I believe the average person didn't have any.
He talked about battering, but I'm not sure how that will work in the US. I don't know anyone who grows chickens or tomatoes. I dont know anyone who makes clothes.
The average person in America may not have much to barter. So if you have prepped and stocked food and supplies, most people you encounter may come with their hand out and nothing to give in return.
I could be wrong, but this looks like a catastrophe of EPIC proportions.

All this was happening when I came to Romania on the International Aid Movement 30 years ago....84 Lei to the UK pound. 6 weeks later on my second Aid Visit I got 160 Lei to the GBP. In 2000 it had risen to 50,000 Lei to 1 pound UK. Then the IMF "bought" Romania and "saved" its currency and made the RON (ROmanian New lei). The only condition was that the RON had t remain Fiat (no gold backing). I went into a local supermarket 2 days ago and a nice box of chocs for Mikulas had jumped to over 100 RON. Last year this time it would have been 40 RON maximum. So Hyperinflation has started AGAIN for us here now. THE ANSWER IS RESTORE THE GOLD BACKING NOW. AND EVERY SMALL COUNTRY SHOULD DO THE SAME NOW!
    .

About 10 mins in and my stomach hurts. All of a sudden I feel overwhelmed with the idea that what happened to Zimbabwe may (potentially) happen here in the US. I live in WA also.
I all of sudden fear my wife and daughter being in this position. Now doing real estate and the fear of rejection is now less then the fear of my family being in turmoil. And I can do something about it now.
Jesus, bless me with wisdom. Help me to get to the next step. The next place.
    In Jesus name I pray.
    Amen. 🙏

Yes I'm a 55 yo Zimbabwean now living in Australia. It was and still is very sad. My step dad worked on the railways in early 80s and had 3 insurance policies with reputable insurance companies which he religiously contributed his hard earned valuable money to each month for his retirement. Well when he eventually did retire his policies were worthless could barely buy a loaf of bread and a pint of milk!! Such a beautiful wealthy country the bread basket of Africa just mismanaged.
Such a shame. God bless Zimbabwe 🙏

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." ~ appeared in a 1937 Congressional subcommittee report

Key point that I believe they don't clarify or make the distinction, for people that might not know, or don't have an econ background. You can just say, the US or EU is printing money like never before...because then people think that, central banks and the FED are literally printing money with their machines, and they are not. They aren't printing money, like they did in Zimbabwe or Venezuela.

I was thinking about a possible way to counteract price controls... you know how all of these companies are encouraging you to round up make a donation... What if the business added a per item inflation fee so that way the base product price remains the same... This would also serve as an educational tool to the public....

I was really impressed with how Phillip articulated such a complicated process, he really put it in a nutshell. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed an interview so much however it left me with one BIG question... apart from physical gold which governments have a history of banning during hyperinflation, where do we put our money if the entire world is in this shitshow together? I know you said Crypto but I am sorry, I just don't trust it. Mainly because it was introduced just a year after the governments of the world realised the current Western fiat monetary system was doomed back in 2008. I certainly don't believe that some brilliant programmer with a Japanese pseudonym name, who's only contact with the outside world died at a young age and is therefore evermore 'unknown', is the creator of Bitcoin.... The Lord Of The Rings was not that far fetched! No, Crypto is a trojan horse which was put in place by the very people who tout to denounce it, the FED and believe me, they have an exit plan for it. Crypto in conjunction with all the paper gold (60K + for every 'physical' ounce) have worked as they planned to keep the price of minerals, physical gold, low but it's not working so well lately. Try as they may it's not going down now and I am guessing desperate times call for desperate measures so I am bracing for what comes next.
Thank you Robert & Phillip, you guys are fantastic!

    • @JWFitness1
      @JWFitness1 2 года назад +1

You read my mind. I truly see the powers that be using the media to hype up crypto the same way they do the virus.
They let people get excited and keep buying, while they keep gold off the radar by keeping it suppressed. While they quietly buy it by the TON.
One day, they make crypto illegal and force businesses to stop using it. All the money in crypto is heavily taxed when converted, making it basically useless.
Gold and silver then skyrocket in price, but few people capitalize on its rise because all they were focused on is stock and crypto.

In a world where there is more money. And more government control. One must buy tools of barter. Now. Buy tobacco, buy food, buy crypto, buy silver, buy shit today for less for when it becomes priceless in the future.

When the top of the fiat ponzi decides to take theirs off the table. It’s a global economy… how about a global world debt forgiveness day, you know, if the stock market crashes, otherwise not😊

We're already undergoing debt forgiveness by destroying the value of the dollar. Problem is, the only people that are aware of that are the wealthy and soon-to-be wealthy, while everyone else listens to Dave Ramsey and pays off debt.
Personally, I ramped up my debt, because I'm able to get it at low interest through negotiated margin and heloc, then I'm able to multiply it at rates higher than the interest through rental properties and my dividend swing trade hybrid strat (LIFO accounting).
Another reason I borrow, is because I locked a lot of my net worth in what I call "defendable assets". They're assets that may have lower returns, but which will never hit zero value, even under EMP/grid down/etc. So with so much crystalized wealth, I need more liquidity to keep the income streams growing, and that requires debt, preferably at 2% - 5% a year.
