- Link Wray is without a doubt one of the most underrated yet influential artists in Rock N' Roll history.
He was the first to use a power chord so without him there would be no punk, metal, or really any alternative type of rock yet you won't find him in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame or most lists about the most important people in rock history. - Видеоклипы
LINK WRAY - GUITAR
SHORTY HORTON - bass
DOUG WRAY - drums
Why isn't Link Wray in the
RocknRoll Hall of Fame???????
A very good question. One of the most brilliant musicians of all time and RocknRoll Hall of Fame excludes him?! Gross injustice!
Because the rock n roll Hall of Fame is a joke .. N.W.A. is in it , that alone gives it no credibility
Castello W. Otis Yep, agree. The Wray man does not need to 'recognised'. A banned instrumental is more recognition than anything. Rumble on Link, rumble on...
You can hear the anger and sadness in this one. The anger and sadness that comes from a Native American from the 50’s facing everyone that looks down on his people after they’ve been wiped out.
This man is a master......dont know why people keep banging on about powerchords tho....Link uses full chords and gets a real open sound not a two note 5th chord....love his lead playing on this...
He was the 1st to use Distortion and feedback tho and with his style pioneered many others from surf to heavy rock to grunge
Yeah the whole thing about powerchords is hilarious, like y’all think he gets that wall of beautiful noise by playing little two note chords? Especially on things like rumble its all about regular open chords and strings that ring out...
Like language in general, the meaning of the phrase "power chord" has evolved with both time and available amp distortion. Late 60s into the mid 70s "power chords" often referred to those rich but fuller fingered chords like a Pete Townshend Who song overdriving a pre-master volume power amp stage. As amp design incorporated master volumes and overdrive pedal use became the norm, big sweeping bar chords with the third interval slimmed down to the root 5 "power chord".
a true power chord IS a complete chord...not a 2 note cheat. THAT IS what the deal is with power chords and Link Wray.
His "art" speaks about the dark side that is sitting and waiting inside each of us, as a warning. He does that without getting preachy, political, or ideological.
That is what art that is "true" does and is about. "Genocide" is as artistic as the 19 the century Neoromantic painting "Oath of the Horatii".
Pat Hare did distortion first, and far crazier, and Johnny Burnette & the Rock and Roll Trio did it in rockabilly in the mid 50s. 56 I think. Then Link came along and put it in the instrumentals, which got more popular
I only recently found out who he was and I haven't been able to stop listening to his music since then....I just can't believe he gets so little credit for his music
he didnt get it because the system got baffled his stuff
Man this is dark
...and genius
He played a dark guitar.
Very Nice, Dad was deff a mastermind.
Your dad my hero. Respect for keeping his legacy alive.
Without a doubt , such a legend
A true visionary and pioneer. Bad ass Rock n’roll was born when Link formed a band. Thank you for all the great music🙏
While there are many who like and appreciate this type of music, Link Wray fans have a deep appreciation for more than his timeless music and great style. We respect your father for being a man of character who persevered through tough times with class and bravado.
Link was one badassman. Legendary is an understatement...
Link Wray decimates all, Rumble, genocide, fatback, the shadow knows.
This needs to be rereleased as a single again ! no one understood the electric like Mr Wray, he had that special touch.
one of the most influential guitar players ever also one of the most versatile.
Great post, I'm a Big Link Wray fan......met him years ago, I'ts a shame he's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...mabey some day......!!!!!
Been a fan for 40 plus years. One of the BEST. PERIOD!!❤️
The chord progressions here kinda reminded me of "Danger Bird" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse... and Neil has spoken about Link's influence on his own sound... so it ain't impossible that the chords in "Danger Bird" were inspired by "Genocide".
Yes, Danger Bird was definitely inspired by this. Listen to Link's solo's on here as well, sounds a lot like Neil. You can hear how much of Neil's sound comes straight from Link Wray.
I agree. I posted the same thought about this song a few years back. Neil was a big Link Wray fan. He mentioned Link in an interview as a guitarist that nobody heard about but that they should have.
I just started listening to Link. My god , where have I been these past 67 years?
Criminally slept on
Punk rock as fuck
My wedding march. In lieu of here comes the bride...
IT'S THE SOUNDS...... JUST THINK , BACK WHEN HE WAS MAKING THOSE SOUNDS HOW THE LISTENERS DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE FUTURE, BUT LINK DID.THE MAN HAD VISION , NO DOUBT.................. SCOBIEAKALINKWRAYBAND Laurel, Md.
Love this music, new shit isnt even half good than this awesome guy
Much apreciation master of arts ! Ace Man . Thank'you to his family . God bless.
Doom metal before doom metal
jesus, i can't stop listening to this. i love it
The best
Can't help but think of Bees Made Honey in the Lions' nest when listening to this track, that meditation on just a few tone clusters, drenched in modulation. The texture Ray gets out of the guitar with just light distortion and reverb is really incredible.
ur right! hex and bees are great albums
Isn't it similar
Link can be found at the molten core of almost EVERY solid rock n roll subgenre... he is virtually the equal to Chuck Berry or Ike Turner in terms of influencing everything that came after him...
Is it just me, or is this even better than "Rumble"? So fucking OMINOUS...
Saudações do Rock por um torcedor do Flamengo no Brasil!
Greetings from Rock in a Flamengo fan in Brazil!
The only thing I'm fairly certain of is that he was using an old Magnatone amp. That vibrato is singular for the era. Not a tremolo at all.
this is Godlike!
My gunfighting song.Link is definetly the man.Not underated by me one bit.Blessed by the Gods I was able to see him live.
Way ahead . . ,
For me is one oft the greatest musican of the time
Real feeling...amazing guitarist!!
The greatest guitarist of all time.
Amazing piece of music. Simple but stunning. Bravo!
This song goddamm... Gives me the chills such a masterpiece.
So good
+JoshAquaLand Definitely reminds me of you.
Conceptualmente vanguardia absoluta para su genero, brillante.
The feels
Wow, how I love that sound!
yep he's got some great stuff!
It's one of those things. I'm eating garlic. I mean hardcore. In my ramen. And Link is on. This was the day.
My wife, say's no.
Hey, it's me. My wife left me.
"South main avenue & wood-street in wilkes-barre luzerne-county pa circa september-1990-june-1992 i was in the special-education class @ the former murray-complex those days are over".
thanks for posting
check his other stuff out his music is extremely addictive!
❤
Mastermind 110%
yes
Roadracers
Think of the time he played and the dimensions he passed through
That sounds like an old Magnatone amp with the crazy vibrato. Would love to know what kind of guitar he was using.
He used mostly cheap guitars. In a lot of pictures he's playing a danelectro.
cool,,,
This is Punk Rock before there was Punk or before it was called Punk it's Punk Guitar. Influence it's a lost classic they need to rerealse.
Awesome
The riff has a tolling bells feel to it (appropriate for the title.)
no problem!
I can hear where Neil may have gotten an influence for Dangerbird.
So gewd!! 😌
Awwwwwwwwwoooooooooo
he he he good generique for a theme like that
Something Neil Young listened to a lot I'm betting
He invented Fuzz tone by punching holes in the speaker in his guitar amp
Psychedelic
@Shayne wray you from Dunn NC
Underrated? By who?
late 1960s record
lol if I ever get married I'm stealing that idea
i am beyond terrified right now. this rules
is is this whuts going on na.. can't be 🤯
🚗💥
Sounds like led zeppelin those guitars are ahead of our time it's late fifties early 60s music
Jimmy Page mentions Link as a whole influence, watch that documentary ( +The Edge and Jack White. It Might Get Loud ) when he appears playing Rumble 7" at home.
"i am not certain
Does anyone have tabs ?
Link Wray was a genius but he was NOT the first to use power chords.
Rewwow
I played these slow songs, Rumble etc to a girlfriend, telling that were banned as menacing etc. But she told me on the contrary that she found them quite sexy and hot. 🫡🌶️ I ' ve played Link on the background for some encounters and the atmosphere is just perfect. 👌🏻🤘🏻Alternating with the rock and rolly ones. Try it 😉Actually didn't r'n'r mean sex on the backseat??
