  • What is an Information Techology Degree? I certainly wondered that as I was starting... I can shed some light on what you should expect. IT is a field many of us want to get into, but is it right for you?

    Thank you so so much for this! Was debating between the two and I like them both but I want to concentrate on Web Development and Communication software(s), and from past experience, programming doesn't bother me at all, although it requires a lot of time and practice. All in all, I feel like IT is more flexible, while Computer Science is more concentrated, so I opted for IT. I just needed that extra boost to give me confidence that I have chosen the right path for me, and your video has helped me to feel more at ease with my decision. Looking forward to joining the IT world.

    I think the best analogy with tech is to be compared with the medical field.
    tech support = paramedic. IT Degree
    network, server operations or admin = nursing, IT Degree
    software developer = Medical Doctor, CS Degree
    This is not saying one is better than the other. Some people would prefer tech support over looking at code all day, even if the pay is lower. The most important factor is what makes you happy.

    • @MarkEndsley

      Information Systems is generally the perfect middle ground between Technical and Management. If you want to go more on the business side, IT = Technical, IS = Tech Business, Business = Business. So I'd say depending on where you want to fall on that spectrum mix and match minors. Are there more programming in CS than IT?

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley  3 года назад +4

      I would say no, but at certain points they are different types of programming. Both CS Majors and IT Majors start with the same programming classes, eventually they part ways a bit. CS majors will go on to mostly use the more basic programming languages (as well as some old ones). They will write programs to simulate higher level algorithms. IT majors on the other hand will start doing web based, and database type programs. IT Majors should leave with close to the ability to write a webpage and connect it to a database.
