      Hi Ariel, thanks. I'm not sure why I do these things to be honest. It has become a routine, and I really want to see other people get the same thing out of this that I did.

    Great point about the interships. One thing I would addd is that many IT jobs that are not consider entry level are available as internships. Jobs like network administrator and security analyst, for example, normally reaquire years of experience. It is very rare to find these job open for new entrants into the IT field. However you can see these availabe as internships. These interships can allow you to graduate and be able to apply for jobs as a qualified professional.

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      Very very true. Internships are generally the answer to the catch22 of experience most people run into when trying to get a first job in the field.

    Hey Mark, I was wondering what Kind of the top jobs does IT prepares you for at UCF? I’m expecting to transfer for fall 2021 either to UCF or USF. I’m interesting into going programming; web developer is the most I’m looking forward. Also I had a curious question personally, why you chose IT over Computer Science?

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      There are quite a few mandatory and elective classes that go with this. One I remember is called Web based IT. Beyond that, I can't quite remember the names of the electives.

    Hi Mark, I'm back with another question
    Since IT degree study a lot of programming and has a lot of similarities of CS studies, is it possible if someday i want to continue my master's degree in computer science? Or do you have other reccomendations what master's degree an IT graduate should take? Thank you

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад +1

      I'm taking a Masters in Information Systems Engineering currently. You could go for a Masters in CS, but you'd likely need to do some prerequisite classes like calc. One thing to know is whatever masters you do, it will likely involve a lot of writing and research.

      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      Oh yeah, that'll handle about anything you can throw at it. Only thing to worry about is if you take it to class with you it could get noisy. If you have the cash for it I'd say go for it.

    Im going into the IT program soon but to be honest I'm not all that into programming but I was looking to doing like networking or maintenence. I saw there are jobs like data analyst and project manager which dont really do coding. Can you attest to this? I need some insight. I am not aware of any other degree programs that dont deal with coding (going to UCF from Valencia) so should I power through this knowing I'll get a job that isn't to do with programming? If IT isn't for me im not really sure where to go from there.

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 2 года назад

      Yes there are plenty of jobs that don't require programming but many are technical in some way.

  • @tumblingdown8612
    @tumblingdown8612 3 года назад +3

    Thanks for the insight bro. I'm an IT major right now im a junior. I LOVE networking and so far really like databses, but I HATE programming. I'm okay enough to get through classes but its agony for me (only taken c and oop). I've talked to a lot of people who say its not a big deal because a lot of job in those other fields dont rely on development as much/at all. Can you attest to this? You seem to be in a more software oriented job so I just wanted to make sure i'm not going the wrong way here.

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      Oh yeah, its not about if you like programming, if it is can you tolerate it. If you can tolerate it you can make it through the degree just fine. Now I will tell you, there will likely be some code like stuff you end up doing for a living, but you will probably like that kind of code by the time you do it.

    Hey Mark, I will start my bachelors of science in IT from feb of next year. My question is, how much does the ranking of your university matter when your searching for a Job . My second and final question is, due to the whole corona virus situation, Internships are harder to get, even if i do get an internship in a very unpopular company or place, should i accept that? I Love your videos , your helping me so much. Thank you!

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад +1

      Unless you are going to an elite school, I would say it does not matter too much. As long as your school is and accredited University, you're good. As far as the unpopular company, I'd say probably take it unless you can't stomach it. I've often wondered how such a thing would look on a resume, but it has to be better than nothing.

      I second this comment, I am currently pursuing an IT degree because it is affordable and offered at my community college. Though I know CS is heavily coveted in the industry I know that I myself am very bad at math. At 31 without much of a math background, it will be very difficult for the obvious reasons. As you mentioned in the video I know I will still need to do some math, but knowing that I don't have to get into that heavy stuff helps knowing. You are one of the few RUclips creators that actually talks about IT in-depth and it helps put me at ease. At the end of the day it all boils down to how motivated, and willing to grow/ learn I feel, and your words in your videos help a lot.

      Getting an intern whether it a well know company or not you never know we’re it can go and that’s one more reference you can use to reach your goal and will still give you more experience than you’ve had before ;)

    Can IT degree go into data science? Or should I choose statistics and data science over IT? I’m interested in tech and healthcare. Thank you so much!

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      This is a very good question. There are IT degrees that offer concentration in data science and one of those would be amazing. As far as just a plain IT degree with no focus and no minor, I'd probably do statistics over IT. That being said an IT major can certainly do it.

    I've got to stay at my current job while I do another 2 years of my IT degree, Im paid pretty good now, not IT good obviously hence why I'm taking a degree at 38 lol, but I couldn't live on an entry level IT job, unless they pay £20ph? That's about $22 in US, Is that possible?

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 2 года назад

      Depends on what you consider entry level. If you mean first IT job no degree no experience it probably won't happen (though not impossible). However, you might be able to make that with an internship (or at least close) depending on exactly what you can find.

    • @MarkEndsley

      Yes, at my University there is a minor you can take along with your IT degree. I would argue that security is more pertinent to an IT degree than any other.

    What laptop would you recommend?

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      That depends a lot on you and your budget something like this www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideapad-s340-15-touch-screen-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-3700u-12gb-memory-512gb-solid-state-drive-abyss-blue/6426703.p?skuId=6426703
      would be a good all around, but if you don't care about touch screen you can save money there, or if you don't have that much money I'd go with a cheap acer. They generally hold up pretty well.

    Can you become a software engineer with an IT degree

    • @MarkEndsley
      @MarkEndsley 3 года назад

      This is a good question. The answer is Yes, especially if you look at jobs that are in the IT space. The funny thing is my IT degree didn't have much about software "engineering". Technically SE isn't much about programming, it is more about drawing designs. In practicality there tends to be code, and sometimes it just means the same thing as software developer. Now of course you will need the skills to go with it, but the IT degree is a good choice.

      It isn't that simple... For a company to work you have to actually have a marketable idea... I've never had one of those. Beyond that, it is a huge lifestyle change. You have to work for that idea 24/7... I've just never had an idea that is worth working for at that level.
