I wish other Esports had guys like Artosis. Charismatic professional casters, who dedicated decades of life on playing their favorite genre and also have some sort of alter-ego that loves to yell at low-skill guys on reddit.
I’m not super familiar with him but strangely enough Tyler1 seems like a close comparison from I’ve seen and heard from his viewers
It's really true... These personalities are like Artosis before and after he's had a coffee.

The soulless look in his eyes from about 3 minutes in. Dude is seeing into the Lovecraftian abyss an can't look away.
Terrans have always been over-represented since the start. Most of the early big names were Terran, most players play Terran, Terran has the most title wins out of any race by faaaar (even before Flash).
Correct, at the high level Terran and Zerg have the most wins, and Protoss the least wins. But if you're a B-rank like Arty then maybe the situation is different.
@@SchemingGoldberg it's cause Protoss was never allowed a Bonjwa era player. Bisu is by far the best candidate but map makers started making very unfavorable Protoss maps during his peak like godawful Bluestorm
Arty is right, though. But watching him lose his mind is objectively more enjoyable than being right. Lol

I can't believe people think Artosis is right when it comes to this xD
@@QCLagstone Then please tell us your take on the races. Enlighten us.
@@DarkLeviathan8 Terran is only hard when you're a noob because it requires more control and is weak early, at higher levels (around B 1900 according to ladder distributions) Terran gets to have a comparatively easier time because the race is incredibly strong as long as these rudimentary mechanical mistakes aren't made.
@@DarkLeviathan8 stats taken from star cono statistics page. Showing Terran overrepresented in A and S, as well as F and E, supporting claim that its harder to climb out of E with, and easier to climb into A with.

@@zerga8132 Well, it's official now. Sorry Artosis.
Should post a video reviewing the reddit post with Flash's translated interview in which he says that from high B through S ranks, race really doesn't matter, just player skill.
Love how he downvoted the dude agreeing with him that zerg macro is easier because you can bank larva 😂
The issue with "discussions" about this sort of thing is that most of the players are B/C rank or below, because that's where the average players are. To preface: people always forget that Terran has the derpiest group of units as well. Every single unit they have will hit the back of a different unit, turn around, run into a medic, turn back around, shoot itself in the foot, stim twice cause your ping is over 50 and then run back and forth in the same spot as it is killed by a zergling that has been attack moved.
Those people think Terran is easy because playing as and against crappy players, you can attack move medic/marine and get away with it with very few issues. Once you're remotely above those ranks to improve as Terran you have to be micro'ing your M&M or mech while 75-80% of your attention is on your base not screwing itself over, or to be sure your supply depots are actually building because the second SCV you sent to build one jumped the wrong way and now you're 10s behind on a macro cycle. How to get above that level as Zerg? Learn to micro mutas and scourge and do a macro cycle every 30-40 seconds, you can get away with only knowing the 1 build, ogre zerg gamer ftw. Protoss? Did you remember to research psistorm? It's kinda good against everything.
Edit: I forgot to mention when remastered released I hit A rank as a Zerg with only 140 APM, and I hadn't actually PLAYED Starcraft since '09. Terran I couldn't get past B rank, despite being far busier. I would make the argument that "getting gud" with Terran is more rewarding on a mental level though, cause you know you did something genuinely hard.
I wouldnt be surprised if a good chunk of the people that laugh at artosis saying "terran is the most difficult race to play" dont even play the game themselves tbh. I mean I can't really blame them with how arty acts on stream sometimes, you *want* to think that there's no way the crying manchild is actually right, I get it.
Dragoons and reavers are the two dumbest units in the game, so I would disagree with that.
agreed i like to play all 3 factions, terran is by far the hardest, despite being able to heal all my units they are so brittle. Protoss has been my comfort zone because i love that canons can hit both ground, zerg has nice defences and mostly just swarm my enemies. but for terran you need alot of micro and positioning to make it work, they have good turtling potential though and science vessels are awsome. i like to mass battle cruisers
@@DaveReid-qr8gd from my experience dragoons struggle on ramps, on fields they are okay, need a bit of baby sitting but their fine. Reavers have to be a bit derpy because those scarabs are very very strong, theres a reason why they cost 15 mineral, they can be very cost effective hence why it should be necessary to micro them.
I caught this live and the funniest part is how he does this after looking so poised, calm and mature casting SC2 for literally hours. Then the playing brood war part of the stream started... xdxd.
There's something no one can argue about. You know how I know Terran is not the weakest race? Cause people betting on big money picked it on big tournaments.
Bro, when big money's on the line, 99% of people won't fuck around...
Why is he so mad over "you can't measure different types of micro." Arty might have passable marine/medic micro, but his muta control is trash. The statement is reasonable, they're different skillsets.
‘Old man yells at internet’
I love how Arty uses his platform to destroy our faith in the most important thing about Starcraft - the balance of races - because he's been playing for 25 years and can't make S rank. Love ya Arty!
In Starcraft Brood War, the hardest race to play can be subjective and depend on individual player preferences and playstyles. However, historically, the race that has been considered the most challenging to master is the Zerg.
The Zerg race is unique in its gameplay mechanics, which require players to prioritize macro management and constantly produce units and structures to keep up with the opponents. Zerg players also need to carefully manage their resources, including their drones, which are both their primary workers and defensive units.
Furthermore, Zerg units have relatively low health compared to other races, which can make them vulnerable to early game rushes and attacks. The Zerg also lack reliable defensive options compared to the other races, which means that Zerg players need to be more proactive in defending their bases.
Overall, playing the Zerg race requires a high level of strategic thinking, multitasking, and adaptability, making it a challenging race for beginners and experienced players alike.

Lol. The race that can drag a game on for 25 minutes straight with less than 100 supply.
Also only Defilers have abilities...
When having an invisible siege tank that can shred through a line of units is still not enough for zerg entitlement.

Also, terrans have the most op spellcaster in the game - science vessels. 3 godlike spells, it has detection, AND ITS A FLYING UNIT. It has a hard counter for every other race, including terrans.

We all know terran is op.
True mate.
How can they be so far off?
There is one race in BW, the one race, where playing it equals a general council on code red.
Your units motion and structure is one big form of self sabotage and you always need to sit on their ass to manage your workers around them.
You have a tight macro cycle and the units being a divide between slow and whompy, and fast and squishy require you to quasi telepathically read your opponent as an imbalance of either will let you be steam rolled.
Because you have rapid acting scout-assault units being augmented by immobile hard hitters, your zoning and positioning must sit perfectly, you need your units to place their skills at the exactly right location at the exact same time for full effect, else you throw everything off balance.
You have to study the opponent more than he knows himself. There is no escape. One poorly timed button click, you get overwhelmed.
It also has ultra high precision skills where misclicking or poorly spending will bite a chunk out of your arse.
The tactics that race has in availability, due to its polarized unit structure, are highly metastable and need a good deal of micro and timing in order not to fail.
I mean, why else is protoss the hardest race in Starcraft Broodwar after all?
Only 7 minutes through and I have to pause from laughing too much.
My sides hurt 😅
I'm glad you didn't rag on the guy who made the thread a bunch. Nothin wrong with asking a question.
Oh nevermind you're ragging on people who are saying they're new and then asking newbie questions lmao

Arguing about which Starcraft race is the hardest is like arguing who is the hottest girl in the Miss Universe contest. The easiest race in Starcraft is still way harder than playing nearly any other game, just like the ugliest girl on Miss Universe is more attractive than nearly any woman you meet on the street.

He did go to Protoss in SC2, though I don't know if he's tried the other two in BW a lot.
He's not a tournament player, so what does it matter how often he wins? He's playing his favorite race and whining about balance
Protoss: Behold the power of togetherness.
Zerg: Behold the power of unity.
Terrans: Behold the power of salt.

Here's ChatGPT's bait for Artosis:
Title: "Terran is Overpowered: A D- Protoss' Perspective"
Hey everyone, I wanted to share my thoughts on the current state of StarCraft: Broodwar, particularly with regards to Terran balance. As a D- Protoss player, I can confidently say that Terran is completely overpowered and needs to be nerfed ASAP.
Let's start with the basics. Terran units are simply too strong and too versatile compared to Protoss. For example, Marines can be massed easily and shred through any Protoss unit, including the mighty Dragoon. And don't even get me started on the Siege Tank, a unit that can basically one-shot any Protoss unit from a safe distance.
But it's not just Terran's units that are overpowered, it's their abilities as well. Take the Comsat Station, for example. It can reveal all of your hidden tech and cloaked units, completely ruining any chance of a surprise attack. And let's not forget about the Dropship, which can transport entire armies to your base, bypassing any defenses you may have.
And what about Terran's so-called "weaknesses"? Their lack of mobile detection is often cited as a disadvantage, but it's actually a strength. It forces Protoss players to waste resources on Observers, leaving them with less units to defend against Terran attacks. And the fact that Terran buildings can lift off and fly away is just plain unfair. It means they can easily move their entire base to a new location, avoiding any threats from your army.
In short, Terran is completely overpowered and needs to be nerfed ASAP. I hope Blizzard takes notice and addresses these balance issues, or else the Broodwar scene will suffer as a result.
Amount of base is roughly proportional to amount of resources you have to exploit and time it takes to get other player to submit.
You know this reddit post brings up a lot of great points Terran truly is OP and should be nerfed in both BE and sc2
This topic is just a litmus test for who is an idiot. My favorite response to Terran op is "why don't you play Terran then?" If it's soooo easy and busted, why does no one ever switch to (and stick with) terran??? Guess what, I switched to protoss and zerg and enjoyed getting a bunch free and easy wins with cheesy newb strats. Then I switched back to Terran and it improved my gameplay immensely by knowing the opponent's POV like what they fear and when they're vulnerable.
They dont want to do that, though, because that takes actual effort. But whining about Terran OP on forums and discord? They can manage that.
If T isn’t OP where are all the Z and P bonjwas ARTOSIS??!?
Keep coping artosis, keep coping. Sometimes we need a clown to laugh at :)

2:00 best moment, holy shit I laughed out loud. Bless you Artosis!
Dude this is absolute gold. I'm in tears lol
Wow. And then we're wondering why there's barely any new players in the SC2 comunity with gate keepers such as this doughnut.
If a player is new, maybe don't judge him based on your decade of experience. When SC2 will die (and that's coming with how blizzard are acting) you will be asking yourself "why oh why, aren't there any new players in this comunity?"
I swear half the people are talking about Zerg like it is SC2 with the talk of more units and them being weaker.
And lol "Having less bases is easier. Because having less resources and production is better. That is why China lives in fear of Fiji. It is easier for the Fijian generals to win because they have less land and army to control."
in tears from this
A person's rank/league should always be shown when discussing balance, regardless of the forum.
2:00 this is priceless.
1:55 Why you do him like that? This is genuinely a new player question. Bro does not know the game and is phrasing it as such. Still funny tho XD
anyone has a link to the reddit thread?
I main zerg and off-race protoss and I have always felt that terrans have an edge. They are harder to scout, they can cheese more, better sustain (medics and scvs can heal and repair) hardest defense to break and in late game they don't need to rely as much on gas.

I browse the Korean starcraft forums frequently and most of the people's opinion there matches with Artosis but don't watch him, so Artosis is most likely correct in what he says about starcraft. According to people on the forums there, the easiest race to climb with is the either the rush all in zerg (very different from zerg-zerg) or protoss.

I asked ChatGPT for some opinions on Protoss that Artosis would disagree with:
Here are some hypothetical statements about Protoss in Starcraft: Broodwar that Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski may disagree with:
"Protoss is the easiest race to play in Broodwar": Artosis has commented in the past that Protoss can be a difficult race to play due to its reliance on high-tech units and the need for precise micro-management. He would likely disagree with anyone who suggests that Protoss is the easiest race to play in Broodwar.
"Protoss is overpowered and unbalanced in Broodwar": Artosis has commented on the balance of the game and has noted that each race has its strengths and weaknesses. While he acknowledges that Protoss can be a powerful race in the right hands, he would likely disagree with anyone who suggests that Protoss is overpowered or unbalanced in Broodwar.

I think talking about mechanical or unit balance in BW is a fools errand without talking about map balance. Maps have a far bigger difference on win rate than any imbalance between the races mechanics.
