You noticed her sneakiness. Good eye Deb. :). LOL
Can you set your system to only use powerwalls during "TEP on-peak" (highest rate hours)?
Yes you can. You get to decide how much energy to use/keep in the powerwalls for possible power outages and for daily use. You can also set them to completely run the house overnight. Under storm conditions no matter what time it is the powerwalls will stop discharging and the grid will feed the home and the powerwalls incase of outage. 99% of the time when I get the message about storm conditions I opt out.
Sounds like you should add one more PW to reduce grid usage. Thoughts?
Hard to say. The one thing I could do is allow them to fully discharge each day. Currently have them set to save 20% incase of an outage. We really don't have many around here other than during the monsoon. Might have been good to have a couple of extra panels? The addition of the Tesla and TEP price increase is the big culprit I think.
So how many payment cycles will it take to save the amount that the system costs?
After Federal tax credit we have just about 27000 into the system. Hard to say specifically, but I would say 14 to 15 years depending on production. The TEP price increase and addition of the Tesla has increased the bill a bit and added additional years to pay it off. We are saving about $150 in gasoline costs so that makes up for the addition to the bill. Had I not added the powerwalls, the system would have been about 20,000 less and the pay off would be less that 10 years.
