In Calif we have Deep Creek Hot Springs in a National Forest..The hike is only 2 miles..Three cascade springs ..The hottest is at the top...Only $ 10.00 to park on private land..Really nice hike as well..
With all that exercise, who wouldn't need a long hot soak. Playful Otter gets warm and wet in the cold foreboding wilderness; while there, he is joined by a friendly blonde lumberjack, a bear and his cub.
You need to be careful with those, the ph levels can change overnight depending on groundwater levels and turn them into a literal acid bath. People have died from it so always make sure you find one that is well-monitored (or already has someone, alive, in it!)
Go on a full moon or near full moon night. You can see pretty well and it will be less crowded and more likely to be naked bathers. Very relaxing. But it has been many years since I've done that and even on a full moon night it might be busy. Some people advise wearing spikes on your shoes. Probably a good idea though I never did.
There is nothing extraordinary about "naked-friendly" hot springs. Come over to Europe, to the Pyrenees mountain range or northern Spain for instance. There are plenty of them and lots of people bathing there ARE buck naked. No fake prudishness here if you behave respectfully with everyone.
