I once saw how you get your Driver License in New York and it was just a multiple choice test, which you could repeat until you got the answers right, and then you've to drive 10 mins through NewYork without hittin' something. Are there States in which you really have to take a serious test? You know, like a Quiz with 30 Questions and if you have 2~3 wrong answers you've automatically failed which means you've to retake the whole Theory Stuff and a practicle Test in which you've to drive at least 45 Min, doin' tasks an instructor gives you like parkin' in backwards and so on?

with the rise of youtube, this kind of story seems to be more common. When I was a kid, back in the 90s, once in a great while, you would hear about or see a story like this on the news. Now it seems like kids look up driving instructional videos and something like this happens more often then it used to. Btw when I was 8 years old, I would have never thought about trying to do something like that. The thought of driving would have been too much for me at that age. So this kid is a lot braver than I would have been at his age.

That said this proves there is no such thing as bad drivers. Only lazy ones. If an 8 year old can drive "flawlessly" then any one can too.

For example: those who choose to text and drive which is illegal in 47 states in the U.S. Texas actually used to have a partial ban, but now it's a full ban meaning no driver can text & drive. The states that have a partial ban (which is most likely age restriction) is Arizona and Missouri. And there is no ban for the state Montana (honestly, I'm not sure if that state has any phone laws put in place).
I know esp. in the state of CA that not only is it illegal to text & drive, it's also illegal to physically hold your phone up to your ear and talk on it. And there's also the fact of speeders dry or wet due to rain because some people do not know how to drive in the rain at all.

Charge both parents. That little boy could have been in an accident, and both siblings could have been seriously injured, including other motorists and passengers. We have laws in place for a reason: for the safety of human lives.
Amazing how everybody thinks this kid is some kind of genius. Yes, if things had gone wrong, then what. What if a pedestrian got killed because the kid couldn't stop the car fast enough, but hey, the world thinks this kid is a Rhodes Scholar. What parents don't miss their car and their kids and leave their car keys where a child can get hold of them? Does somebody have to die for people to see the seriousness of an 8 year old driving thousands of pounds of steel around? And what, he left the house with a pocket full of cash? Or did he use his credit card?
no charges were ever filed, and there was no way parents would ever expect this. He decided for himself he is going to take the car and drive to McDonalds, not his parents. I don't support 8 year old drivers but this was an acceptable one-time event cause he did everything safely.
