  • For me as a driver The Nürburgring is my natural habitat. For my newly acquired 1973 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk1 it certainly is not.
    After 10 days of taking the Mk1 up & down the most crazy mountain passes the Alps can throw at you I decided to go for some laps with the RS2000 at the Nürburgring. Just a small detour on my way back home.
    Driven thousands of laps at The Nordschleife in my purpose build Ringtools (BMW Z4M coupé/BMW Z3 Coupé/BMW 2002 Ti) I did not know what to expect. The Mk1 performed outrageously on those narrow & steep passes with it's countless hairpins in the Alps.
    How would this historic rally icon with its crazy engine sound perform at the most demanding race track in the world?
    I was in for a jaw dropping surprise. BTW headphone users have more fun!
    Enjoy
    Carlo

    Hi DoctorCarLove, as you are very often at the ring and did thousands of laps, maybee you can give me some advice?
    I am planning to do my first trip to the ring. Its ~900km one way to get there. I want to do as many laps as possible.
    Would you recommend to visit the ring on a "normal" weekend or on a green-hell-driving-days weekend like next week (30.9 - 4.10.)? Just discovered that on the tuesday there is a national holiday in germany!
    Is it going to be totally totally mad or just a standard mad weekend on the ring?

    • @DoctorCarLove
      @DoctorCarLove  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi. A green hell weekend is always a bad idea unless it rains. Only then you have an empty track, but untill you master the ring in the rain it’s the most scary thing you have done ever. My safe bet is go when there is a race on saturday with the ring open for public on sunday only. Always nice to see the action on saturday and feel the ring vibe as a bonus. A national holiday during the week also could be interesting because it keeps the unexperienced sub 27 year old foreigners who think they can do a lap like a certain youtuber and going for lap times but ending up in the wall with multiple multi hour track closures as a result, but I guess there are a lot of sub 27 year old german hot headed drivers too. And in this time there is the weather too. In this time of year the morning fog can keep the track closed for hours while the rest of germany is nice and sunny. So no clear answer. Don’t set goals about how many lap you want to go. I have had weekends with 60 laps, but also 3 due to weather or other frustrating circumstances. They don’t call it the green hell for nothing. Respect for the place comes first. Then just go with the flow by taking it easy. So no lap times! You’ll have more fun that way. Enjoy your stay in the land of ring. Cheers

      @@DoctorCarLove Thank you for your quick response and your advise.
      Fortunately I am not an inexperienced sub 27 year old. Unfortunately I am well over 27.
      When I have planned the trip I didn't know about the national holiday on tuesday. I expected that will be very busy on saturday and sunday and that I would be quieter on monday/tuesday. But no.
      Just spent almost the whole day in the garage preparing the car with new brake -discs -pads -fluid, engine oil and filter ect. Don't know yet what I will do. Maybe I combine the trip with a detour to Spa six hours.
      But the ambition was to get experience on the ring, do a lot of laps, have fun. Without a stop watch.
      Once again many thanks. For next year I will plan it differently. Cheers.
