  • Daniel and guest Willow/Antigod explore a rare section of track in Bromley, between New Beckenham and Beckenham Junction, which is made open to the public when the Hayes line has engineering work. Also they bash on the state of 465s again because that’s what this channel is known for at this point.
(Yes there will be a full video dedicated to the history and future of the 465s at some point, you don't need to keep pestering us)

A couple of years ago, I travelled on Class 375 Electrostar service from Sittingbourne, which would have started at Dover Priory. Because they were doing work on the Brixton Junction and also around Catford, they diverted the services between Bromley South and Victoria to run via the Beckenham loop, Lewisham, Denmark Hill, and through Clapham High Street before switching back to the Chatham Main Line into Victoria. It also made an extra stop at Beckenham Junction.
I have been told that the 465/9s (former first-class units) and the 2-car 466 Networkers are supposed to be withdrawn in December, with Southeastern being loaned some more Class 377s from Southern. This will only be possible because the 30 former Stanstead Express & Greater Anglia Class 379s are moving to Great Northern, and Southern will get some of their Class 387s.

Who told you that the 466 and 465/9’s are leaving in December this year? That’s crazy!

@@StarbitTrainspots I was told this by a friend who retired from Southeastern a year ago, and he heard it from a guard based in Gillingham, who he meets up with quite frequently that the rest of the Met Cam Networkers were going. The plan may have changed, especially with a change of government pushing Great British Railways, but with the current Met Cam units now getting spares from the withdrawn 465/2s, 465/9s and 466 because some parts are obsolete, there will be a point, very soon, where there will be no more spares available. I personally can't see them getting rid of the 466s as they probably don't have enough 376s or 707s to make up all of the 10-car units needed. If they do get some more 377s, that could get the Networkers away from Main Line running and keep them on the SE Metro routes.

For rare track , have you ever done the 05:30 Liverpool Street to Enfield Town on a Saturday morning, which covers the Tottenham South Curve and Seven Sisters Chord, the only passenger working booked to run via those bits of track?

I think that Southeastern should start replacing the Class 465 and Class 466 with new rolling stocks that these DC networker trains are getting quite old. Maybe Alstom could build and manufacture new Aventra DC trains to replace the Class 465 and Class 466.
