  • I forgot to mention this guys on the passenger side of the car there is a plastic cover you need to remove four bolts to remove the cover my viewers. Other than that is the only thing I forgot to mention in this video.

Wow! Nice video. A real time saver. I struggled for 5 hours trying to figure out how to get the dam thing out through the wheel well.

The small tabs on the core support on the jeft are held in with a single screw. Makes pulling the fan much easier. Also tuck the fan wire inside the shroud. The bottom alternator bold does not need removed, just losened, its in a slot.

I'm trying to do it myself now. I watched lots of videos saying to do it from the bottom. I barely finished undoing the compressor and it won't fit out of the bottom 😪. Yes more detail please.

Just remove 4 bolts who's retain AC compressor under alternator, move on the side and you have all the place you want to remove it under engine compartment and install a new one

I found my way is quicker than doing all that work. Plus this method works just fine, but I will try that the next time when I get to work on one. I appreciate for the input.

Would the hardlines give you enough room? Or would I need to break the a/c lines loose?

    • @laurentdesponts6919
      @laurentdesponts6919 4 года назад

@@jordanrussell345 no you don't need to to break the AC line, and I not recommend, you lost A-134 refrigerant and contaminate your system, just pending Compressor out of your way, you have all the place to made the job.

Just replaced one this weekend. My steps differ, just contributing another method that I found worked out for me.
    Disconnected battery.
Set the vehicle on jack stands, removed passenger front wheel, serpentine belt cover and serpentine belt.
Removed a/c compressor connector, removed alternator connections, removed brackets retaining harness that obstruct path for alternator to be removed upwards.
Removed alternator fasteners, pried alternator off of bracket through passenger wheel-well area.
    Removed front lower engine cover.
Set jack to brace on lower portion of a/c compressor using a small block of wood (careful on this part, be sure to be as far inward towards the oil pan as possible to minimize potential damage to compressor.).
Removed lower engine mount fasteners. There are six bolts total, three for the front and three for the rear. Note the bolt lengths upon removal.
    Removed upper engine mount.
Raised engine slowly until I found sufficient room to remove alternator from above.
Found that the alternator can be removed through passenger front side near the a/c lines against the frame. Takes a little wiggle and turn, but there is definitely room to have it removed.
    Replaced alternator, tightened fasteners.
Lowered engine slowly and loosely fitted all engine mount fasteners. Once all fasteners have been started, fully lowered engine.
Do not tighten engine mount fasteners until all other components have been reinstalled.
Reinstalled all other components, excluding covers.
Start engine, let idle for approx 10 seconds. This allows the engine to settle from movement. Turned engine off, then tightened all mount fasteners.
Confirmed work, then reinstalled covers, resinstalled passenger front wheel.
Total time should take approximately an hour or so from start to finish. I did not remove any cooling system components or have risk damaging any other front end components. It does clear the fan shroud once the engine has been raised high enough.

Definitely needed to watch in order to be able to swap out my alternator. Unfortunate that you swear so much.
Also, it would've been much better to just film all of the steps and then edit them together.

What kind of alternator brand do you recommend. I got a 2013 sorento and about to get one soon. My options near me are oreilly and autozone.

Another note, faulty sensors on the negarive battery sensor will make the regulator test bad whan its not. .........unplug sensor and then start, alternator voltage will stabilize in about 30 seconds.

So it is not necessary to remove the radiator, just the fan shroud?

    • @Belmont2080

yeah remove of the fan shroud, radiator brackets, and keep on following the instructions for the repair. In the near future will do a better video for a another repair.

How many fasteners or cords to connect are there on the alternator? A mobile mechanic I called said there was only one however I spoke to a half a dozen others who said there should be 2 or 3. I have a 2012 Kia Sorento AWD V6?
