Yeah, if you take the radiator loose on both sides you can tillt it forward just enough to slide the fans up an out and get them completely out of the way! No need to undo the top hose and probably don't have to remove the dipstick either. The alternator will come out on the drivers side and miss the rad hose. Not easy but I could NOT slide the fans over far enough to get the alt out, interference from the bottom rad hose. Just take the fans completely out and everything opens up like it should be in a perfect world.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

This video helped a lot. I have one added suggestion. It helped me complete this job by also removing the passenger side headlight assembly. You can get more access to help remove other items needed to be removed. I have a 2010 Santa Fe so alternator CANNOT be removed from the bottom. This job from start to finish took me roughly 4-5 hours so plan accordingly.....especially if you are in the so-called rust belt like I am (Northeast)

Awesome video I didn’t want to mess with the AC as others were saying to do in my opinion this is the best “at home” way to get this done. Thanks a lot for making this you’ve saved me and others a lot of time and money!

Thank you for puting this video together. Your time and efforts are valued. The tip of putting the screw on the new alternator and making sure there is enough room to sit it on is great!

Great SUVs!! Had an 11 with over 150k, sold it running great, no issues ever.
Now have a 12 SX, 174k, still driving it, zero issues until the alternator started having charging issues the other day. Looking forward to finally having something to fix on her! With your help, it's about to go down....

This was very helpful. Probably the worst place for an alternator ever. I got away without taking off the dip stick and without taking the bolts out of the radiator tho

This is a good video. Even though it will take you longer than 12 mins, (lol) he covers the important stuff. Great tips and tricks to make the job easier. Just take off everything he says and it won't be too bad. I tried to skip taking the dipstick out, but there is no way around it. Whatever he edited out you just have to be mechanically inclined and know what you are doing. If you do not know how to work on cars then you probably should get some help. Awesome video though, and well worth the time to watch if it is the first time to attempt this job. Don't waste your time on the other videos. They don't know what they are doing. Don't try and go through the bottom. Top is much easier.

I am trying to upgrade my alternator wiring for an audio system. Is there an easier way to access the charging wire to take it off and replace it with a thicker gauge wire?

Another way you can remove Alternator is to remove AC compressor. Comes right out the passengers side wheel well. You have to discharge AC,but save a lot of time.

Mine had a wiring harness clipped to the alternator to keep it out of the way. I cannot figure out how to remove it. It's not the battery wire or the one to the computer, just a plastic retaining clip attached to it. I'm so my wit's end with this. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @jnp284
      @jnp284 5 лет назад +2

As good as I can remember, I don’t believe mine had a clip on the alternator. Mine was above it and I took two of them off so my alternator wire and computer wire harness would be out of the way. If it was me personally, I would just clip the clamp if you can without doing any damage. Actually had to pull my alternator again, overcharging. I’m hoping the voltage regulator is it and not a short in the harness somewhere. But it only took an hour this time because I knew what I was getting into lol. Best of luck

@@jnp284 just got everything out and in. Used ur suggesting on just cutting it off. I'll zip tie it down. Also, I found it easier to remove the little neck that holds the oil cap than the dip stick (for anyone else needing help/suggestions)

This is the wrong way to do this job. Remove the fan, attach a ratchet strap in the middle of the front grill and attach to something heavy in front of the car and pull slowly. It gives you enough room to get the alternator out and the new one in.

Eh, I've been working on cars for 30 years.I have watched all these kia alternator videos and I have come to the conclusion that you have to remove the bumper cover witch is easy but even then it's a bear.

  • @michaelsouls703

Ugh!! SMH!! I’ve seen so many videos. I’ve done all the techniques. And I have never been so happy by just removing bumper then radiator and omg so much space no finagle just smooth operation. I struggle more with finagle and wasting time maneuvering it also preventing damage to anything else. It’s actually faster and not that bad. And the space mmmm sexy lol

    • @wild_flower11

Thank you. I wasn't comfortable taking everything off. I didn't even take the radiator out, just the fan. So much easier without the bumper. You're a lifesaver.
