I did this job (2016 Altima) for the first time yesterday. I decided to go thru the bottom. Removed top nut on the front engine mount, removed belt, removed tensioner, lowered subframe, loosened miscellaneous harness clips, unclipped and moved oil cooler lines out of the way, disconnected compressor connectors, removed compressor fasteners (4), lowered compressor. Then removed bottom alternator nut and long bolt
Alternator top bolt, and electrical connections accessed from the top. Disconnect upper radiator hose and move out of the way to make room. After all this is done, the alternator came out with little effort thru the bottom while moving the AC compressor out of the way

Great video. Just watch out for the AC compressor sensor cable when removing the alternator. It can come down and smash the cable. Also, while you are down there, check the Oil coolant lines that runs under the AC compressor line, if it's rusty replace it. It will leak one day. Do it while you down there. Might as well replace the belt too.

Changed mine last year with a Reman. That was my first mistake, and the output lug/post to my battery snapped off due to the heat. I’m about to get back into today. I do electrical work and I’m pretty mechanically inclined some would say very inclined. But I’ve never been so INCLINED as to push the whole maxima off a bridge😂😂 they make that shit to require a dealership/mechanic for the average person. Last time though I didn’t have to drain the antifreeze, I just clamped off the conduit and stuffed to the back, but I am for sure taking out my bottle this time, that gave u a lot of space

long story, but I had my alternator on the 09 Max replaced around thanksgiving. I moved 3+ hours away from the shop that did it and around January, it started acting up again (come to find out.) Engine surge only in gear, brake+battery lights flashing on and off when the engine surges, loud rattle at idle etc. Come to find out, after we replace some parts at the dealership I work at, it ends up being the alternator. Yesterday, we found out that the " lower generator bolt" backed out of place and is just banging around in the hole. With some force, we hammered the threads through enough to grab them with a nut and pull the tab over the end of the alternator. however, the bolt is so long that it is now in the way of the lower idler pulley and it is keeping it from spinning. We thought that was weird, backed the bolt out enough to where there was still no play in the alternator and now the pulley can spin freely. Looking at shit last night, I am realizing that there is supposed to be that " generator bracket" that the hook end of the bolt attaches to. It's gone. I don't know how, but it's gone. We put some blue threadlock on the bolt and have it backed out enough for the pulley to spin freely, but I don't know how that bracket fell off unless the shop I took it to just didn't tighten everything down all the way. I'm gonna need that bracket eventually, huh? one of the guys helping me says I should be fine, the other says BULLLLLSHIT. I just need it to last for the time being until I can get in that bracket and try to replace everything myself with the help of the guys in the shop. Did the alternator in this video even have a bracket? I didn't see one. thank you!

It’s the smart charging systems on that car. If you cut that blue wire it would charge all the time

Which blue wire are you speaking about and where is the location? I truly believe my issue isn't the alternator. I have already replaced it once and a month later I'm back to having the same issues. The voltage seem to fluctuate between 14 and 12.

.y mechanics have done this about three times to my 2010 nissan maxima. I have paid the over 5 years any where from 200 to 500 in labor. These days it's much higher for labor. Now the recent culprit of the two last failures recently has been spured on by a oil leak over two years and over 200,000 miles on the vehicle.
That's a lot of bolts and nuts and components to remove an Alternator. This is undoubtedly poor e gineering on Nisans part. The alternator is horizontal rather than vertical to other old vehicles and makes the alternator more available to be burned out by spilled leaking from possible gasket leaks after 190000 miles. Otherwise the engine runs great and does not smoke. When the oil sprays or leaks it drops on the alternator which is positioned to have a failure I wonder how much they would charge for a new engine or even a gasket repair, which the dealer may charge double. I don't think they will make this design of any nissan maxima anymore. Poor engineering on Nissans part on this six cylinder vehicle. Any suggestions on your part for this design of this alternator in this type of vehicle???. Your video is excellent and I know why they charge so much for replacement of the alternator, I had no idea it was that complicated. THANKS.

This is stupid design if they had left 2 inches more clearance it would had been 40 minute job anyways u have to check for leaks usully the valve cover leaks on these front one is easy to do rear valve gasket is like $500 labor
