Old Euro-spec i3 Rex owners' trick: tie the "Hold State of Charge" toggle to one of the 8 function buttons. It transforms the experience. Long uphill coming up? Rex on. Downhill? Rex off and let the regen take care of it.
Why though? The REx does not add power. You can't climb the hill any faster. If you want to use the REx, use it, but you don't need it to climb hills. And regen works while the REx is working, no reason to turn it off on the downhill.
@@patrickmartin3322 So would just turning the Rex on and leaving it. Toggling it on and off based on the grade of the hill with or without a function button doesn't change that. It will actually just turn itself on and off as it gets back to the level you set. It's automatic.

What was the little thing that you bought? I didn't see y'all use it at all? I just saw you guys use the app to jailbreak. What is the little thing that i need to buy?
Bimmercode is a long established app, no doubt with checksum verification or other means to confirm an accurate transfer, but a wired connection can be even more flaky if there is something loose!
looking at getting the 2015 i3 Rex. 42k miles. i've seen hit or miss info on issues but i trust yall. overall, would you recommend this car or are there too many consistent issues with it tha tone should pass?
They always could physically fill the tank to 2.4 gallons and you have to fill it to the top because the computer would limit use to about the top 1.9 gallons. With the update, the computer will no longer limit the use to the top 1.9 gallons and will instead use the full/true gas tank capacity of 2.4 gallons (or very close to it).
It is my understanding and experience that you cannot change the available gas tank size on the 2014-2015 models. I tried by following your tutorial and as it is shown on your video, the range did not change. So, you guys were not looking at a calculation error, you did not change the gas tank size. Has any one found a work around? Maybe doing it in the expert mode?
I'm not sure if I get it right. So you spent close to 100 usd to code the car to get 3 miles LESS on a same fuel and calling it a great hack ? What am I missing here ? I understand that your goal was to increase the mileage by allowing the gas tank to "see" the full 2.4Gallon versus 1.9 but that is still not explaining how you went from 70 to 67 miles range on a same fuel. The half a gallon remains in a tank when it shows empty, right ? Well not sure I really need this code if the range will drop. I think it should be explained what and why did it change exactly that dropped the range on fuel.
The feature that I want, but dont have is "remote start " or precondition. My car from California never needed such a thing, but here in Canada its useful. The dealership says it costs $400 to do that, (I need to chnage the region from US to Canada) and I'm not willing to pay that much
Thanks for the upload, however, the i3 community already knows about Bimmercode and coding the i3 to unlock the entire gas tank and the range extender.. Unlocking TJA, WiFi, viewing video on the center screen, AM radio etc..
Yes and no. The i3 has this fuel tank restriction to reduce it's gas range to less than it's electric range. That way California (40% of the US EV market) counts it as fully electric for tax purposes. So it would be legal with a 10-20 gallon tank, but the taxes would be higher.
It’s not pushing the car with the 34 horses it’s only charging the battery 🔋 please spread correct information and I road 65 up and down hills no issues over exaggerate something that’s not issues but doing this does make the car way more worth and everyowneer should do but if you don’t your cars Rex has plenty power uphill at 60 Alex on autos showed it!
Yes! and no. It's making electricity to trying and maintain the battery at the level it started. On my car that starts at 6%. if I was climbing a MOUNTAIN, or driving 80+ MPH, the battery would drop to 3% and lower at which point the car would kick in to a low power mode and slow down. Running the heater (especially if it's really cold outside) makes this happen sooner.
guys- this was the reason i didn't want to buy this car....if it works.... a question--- is the piece of hardware you bought just an OBD reader, or is it something special for the BMW? the iCarPro looks to just be an OBD reader....
I bought a 2015 i3 (my third one), and when the dealership found it was coded, they said whatever remaining warranty on the battery was there is no longer. I asked for an explanation and they said that because someone added aftermarket software the warranty is null and void. When I tried to explain that there is no added software and that the only thing that was done was ENABLING some of the existing software, they said I was wrong. They then did an update on the software and now the battery KAPPA which previously said 16.2KW now reads 15.4KW. Its amazing how stupid people are even "professionals".

What can the VGate iCar Pro do for a non-REx i3?
“It doesn’t know what time it is”, sounds like something Don Rickles would say. Hopefully Tommy was able to give it a cookie to go away
Will this void a manufacturer warranty?
What was the little thing that you bought? I didn't see y'all use it at all? I just saw you guys use the app to jailbreak. What is the little thing that i need to buy?
can i use this to get korean market features in a veloster?
Coding anything wirelessly really puts me on the edge of my seat.. Especially from a phone!
Bimmercode is a long established app, no doubt with checksum verification or other means to confirm an accurate transfer, but a wired connection can be even more flaky if there is something loose!
Can anyone provide links to the items used for this?
looking at getting the 2015 i3 Rex. 42k miles. i've seen hit or miss info on issues but i trust yall. overall, would you recommend this car or are there too many consistent issues with it tha tone should pass?
Do it!
Can you do this with the 2018 i3 ?
Yes
Great video as always Tommy!!🙂 When can we see 65' Ford truck next?? Tht truck's Awesome... wanna see that!!
so are you able to fill the tank to 2.4 gallons after this software update?
You should get the traffic assist set car will drive its self in traffic
How did you plug it in and all
so what the heck was the amazon thingy for??
Where's the link and actual tutorial on how to use it?
Any benefits for non rex models?
It's lighter and get slightly better MPGe as a result. However, it does not make up for the range anxiety of not having the Rex as a backup..
Tommy how dare you ! Where’s the test ?? Come on Man... 😂
But how does this affect the warranty
2014 car, it has no warranty. And Bimmercode automatically creates backups so you can roll-back the code to original.
This reminds me of action replay games for N64
uff Motion Sickness!! staph!! lol
For 2014 i3 the channel needs to be called SlowLane
The i3 isn't a slow car by any means, its the perfect city car.
The i3 is BMW's quickest car from 0-30 mph!
I was wondering when you’d do this.
The feature that I want, but dont have is "remote start " or precondition. My car from California never needed such a thing, but here in Canada its useful.
The dealership says it costs $400 to do that, (I need to chnage the region from US to Canada) and I'm not willing to pay that much
I think you need to pay BMW for upgrade to the app for that
... I mean upgrade the app
thanks
Thanks for the upload, however, the i3 community already knows about Bimmercode and coding the i3 to unlock the entire gas tank and the range extender..
Unlocking TJA, WiFi, viewing video on the center screen, AM radio etc..
Everything always gets more complicated, because, on thing always leads to another.
Thanx you!
Are you sure Michael J Fox wasn’t behind the camera on this video instead of Andre?
Wait... you’re telling me the land of V8s and straight pipes impose more motor vehicle restrictions than Europeans? 😭
Yes and no. The i3 has this fuel tank restriction to reduce it's gas range to less than it's electric range. That way California (40% of the US EV market) counts it as fully electric for tax purposes. So it would be legal with a 10-20 gallon tank, but the taxes would be higher.
Does bimmer code no longer support v gate?
Would have been funnier if after you coded it, pretended that the car controlled itself
That’s nice it does stink that you had to pay extra afterword
I e been wondering where this car went
This bmw looks handsome compared to the iX
Really? The iX has a similar look in my opinion.
But in Europe.. we have awful taxes in Europe. 20% VAT and +50% income tax. Still jaleous on Europeans?
Parental leave, healthcare, diesels, so yes.
BMW Employees be pressing the dislike button
guys- this was the reason i didn't want to buy this car....if it works.... a question--- is the piece of hardware you bought just an OBD reader, or is it something special for the BMW? the iCarPro looks to just be an OBD reader....
Imagine your car being rented just to get roasted.
BMW has never and will never honor the warrantee on the battery anyway. They simply recondition the battery and charge you for brining it in.
@@aimlessdrive8723 Laws??,,what are you talking about lol.what does any "law" have to do with a warranty on a vehicle??..you are like the imbeciles at the dealer who think that by ENABLING options on the EXISTING software you are adding aftermarket software which is just an excuse to void the warranty. In other words I was not "messing" with the ECU , just enabling what the European versions already have.
Actually it’s 2.4 gallons but that’s with tapping gas pump and pulling out handle. Lol.
