    I have a Mag 77(from when it came with a 25 foot cord) and loved it. Still love it for what it is, but I went cordless.
    I got a Makita rear handle, and now this one from Milwaukee. ALL great saws. The Makita IS smoother, but the Milwaukee is a bit more powerful. The differences aren't great enough that I would hesitate to use either saw though. The greatest benefits of these saws are power, easy sight line, run time, and their ability, with the rear handle design, to more easily maintain a straight cut without a guide. Left handed folks may have a valid argument to the contrary though. I've talked with DeWalt rear handle users and they say the same thing, so really, you can't go wrong with any of them. Price is the only hang up, but they will eventually pay for themselves in labor messing around with cords, provided the batteries and tools last a few years.
    The interesting difference between the 3 are the battery strategies employed.
    Makita - Some folks gave Makita a knock, calling the 2 battery setup "gimmicky" or "odd". Probably one of the more ridiculous things ever said. This decision to simply add another battery pack instantly doubled the voltage to 36v and allowed 18v Makita users to keep using their existing batteries. It also kept Makita from having to develop a new battery platform and they did it well over 2 years ago! So really, it was a no-brainer for them to be able to get the tool to market ahead of the competition. While the 2 battery design can be cumbersome on some tools, like angle grinders, that isn't the case with this saw. I haven't heard one negative comment that I considered valid about this saw.
    Milwaukee- Milwaukee made the bold decision to go all-in with the M18 platform. I can only assume that they saw the negative feedback that Dewalt was receiving for going with multiple battery platforms. From an engineering standpoint, higher voltages are much simpler and cheaper to make. High voltage mean less amperage, which in turn means less heat and smaller conductors and control circuitry. The existing 18650 li-ion cells were the real high power bottle neck. So they went a step further and incorporated the 21700 cells which have MUCH higher charge/discharge current capability. So staying at 18v was a ballzy and high cost move for them. That move is paying off. 18v CAN AND DOES power big tools on a single battery. Though it will run on any 18v battery, you won't enjoy running it on anything less than a 9ah on the 18650 side and a 6ah on the 21700 high output side. It was shipped with a 12ah battery for a reason. But it's nice to know you can make some cuts with the smaller ones in a pinch.
    DeWalt- Tough decisions had to be made by all the players in this game. DeWalt went with higher voltage/new battery. 54 volts(don't give me that 60vMax crap, they are the same cell voltage as all the others, 60 is just marketing hype. Notice they aren't allowed to use this marketing in the U.K.) Also a ballzy move, in that they would require customers to invest in a totally different battery. But it is much easier and cheaper to engineer a higher voltage tool. Still, by all accounts, this saw is every bit as good as the others. I don't have any DeWalt cordless tools since they were all stolen a few years ago. But they were all great tools.
    Some folks will probably chime in that one is better than the others. That may be true for you. All of them have minor annoyances or shortcoming but none are deal breakers for me. But I truly believe from personal experience and talking to other contractors, that you really can't go wrong with any of these 3. You've heard it a thousand times, but if you are already in the battery platform, I recommend getting the saw that works with batteries you have.
    As always, comments are welcomed.

      Excellent summation. Agree with everything you have said. I have the dewalt flexvolt rear handle and while it has the most power out of all saws on the market at that blade size, there are tradeoffs with weight, balance, smoothness of cut and runtime to factor in. It really looks like an even playing field and we as the consumers are spoiled for choice with this tools arms race that's currently taking place. Can't wait to see the innovations to come.

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 5 лет назад

      @@N1rOx Absolutely. The more they push each other, the higher the bar for all of them, the better tools we get. While it may be fun to see which tool performs a task in 5.3 or 5.6 seconds, It usually comes down to the feel and skill of the operator to get meaningful results. I'm sure there's some salty old carpenter in Arkansas somewhere who can do more with a 1976 B&D sidewinder on it's 17th set of brushes and 13th replacement cord, with an old non-carbide, hand filed blade than I can do with all 3 of these saws.

    I purchased that saw when it came out as well. I definitely has the power. One major flaw that I discovered is that that didn't do well mounting the table. The table and the blade are not parallel. I found this out when I needed to make perfectly straight cuts on multiple roof rafters for a flat roof. I clamped my straight edge on, and the cut would taper towards the straight edge. I couldn't get 1 foot into my cut before the blade would warp and then bind up.
    I also didn't like that I had to buy their RIP guide to work on their saw.
    Its heavier that my Makitas and not as well machined in my opinion. It does have more power and I can frame for about 6 hours straight on one 12.0 battery, but with the weight and the fact that I cant use it with a straight edge (even though that's not a common occurrence in framing) it has become my backup saw.

      I have one and it's definitely not what you want for small detailed cuts, it's bulky, heavy and requires two hands to use. That is how all rear handled saws are though. I use my regular sidewinder saw more but the rear handle saws are great for heavy duty use.

    Why wouldn’t they send the dust port out the right. Aside from filling your bags that cloud of dust might block the view of a line you cut to and if you hook up a vac the hose will be in the way.

    Simple that battery saws are for toys, you want real power no one can beat the skill saw, i been used any kind of brand for 30 years as a real carpenter, and no battery or "dewalt" can beat the skill saw power is corded stuff, back up tools get battery, in my opinion battery is a toy tool

    • @toolsatwork7569
      @toolsatwork7569  4 года назад

      kakaroto Armageddon the cordless saws 5 years ago were toys. Now the ones out have more power than corded. It’s just not possible for a corded saw to deliver the same amount of power that the current cordless saws have. A 15 amp receptacle can deliver 1800 watts of power max and that’s if you don’t have a 100’ extension cord. The dewalt flexvolt is capable of 2400 watts of power. It’s science. Also I guarantee in a head to head power test the corded one would loose.

      @@toolsatwork7569 well 15amp dewalt it doesn't work for me, i have the 15 amp cause i thought will replace my power one and it didn't, dewalt are crap i have collection of that brand was waste of money, jigsaw, bandsaw, Sanders,drills,saws,etc, the onlye drill that was filling my needs is the stud and joist drill, the rest it's on my junk and some of them i gave it free,. I used tools all day long, so i benn tested all brand only one brand was good i used them drill 6 hours straight with not rest and was really good,. Im real carpenter, no jokes, so every tools i have needs to run all day just with lunch brake, so i have experience on tools., for little jobs yea works but not for a serious jobs that you need your tools running all day long and here are real power tools.
