I know that millions of men and women the world over love and adore Chanel #5, and because of that, I've always wondered what was wrong with me that I cannot abide it. The problem has to be with me, right? I'm almost 67 years old, so it's not that it's "old-fashioned". I did a deep dive into perfume notes, and for the first time, I can articulate why I don't like it. First, there's more than one aldehyde. I remember in high school chemistry, we made an aldehyde that smelled like banana. Aldehydes are simply a chemical that bonds like fats and absorb other components. There are specific aldehydes that are green that the creators chemically bonded with other green notes...and used it in an "overdose" level. I can understand and appreciate the historical significance of Chanel #5 in perfumery without personally preferring it. I am considering creating a historical section to my perfume collection. As a historiographer, I have no problem with that. It only seems appropriate.
I had to sell off most of my perfumes a year and a half ago, but the ones that I held onto for dear life and couldn’t let go of are Delina Exclusif, BKR540, Velvet Tonka, Angels Share, Tres Chere, Orchidee Vanille, Tribeca, Vanilla 28, Mon Exclusif, L’heure Bleue, Chanel No 5, Jasmin Rouge, and Lost Cherry. I love my streamlined little collection (although I need more warm weather ones), and they’re all die hard loves. That’s what the standard is going to be from here on out. Now Birth of Venus is its crown jewel!

Try taking a 10 min break a day and going for a walk around the block. It can seem like the hardest thing to do (and screen time the easiest thing to do). I get it. Force yourself! It is the most therapeutic thing you can do. I promise! Air, sunshine ☀️, exercise, the world around us… all things we lack these days.
Material is STUNNING esp in cold Winter weather❤ It’s sweet, , amber, resinous delicious vanilla. Wafting around on a scarf it’s simply divine. Top 10 lifer for me ❤❤❤

I love this kind of fragrance content💖💖 HSW was my 1st ever niche and its still a no 1 for lifer for me💖💖💖Im babying my 50 ml (2018 bottle)coz i dont want to buy newer batches as they seem to have been watered down based from recent people who smelled a ton of alcohol in the opening, which wasnt was it was for me. I have sampled the HSW X but it was too bombastic for me like a strong,sexy catwoman vibes it is still beautiful beastly sexy as they added leather on it.. im just not yet ready for that kind of vibe😅😅😆😆😆😆
I agree on the HSW X. The leather is too much for me. But the Ani X is amazing! They haven’t watered anything down. A lot of people are buying on the grey market, and blaming issues on the brand. The grey market is blended with old stock and counterfeits.
This video really resonates with me because I have been buying fragrances one after the other, and sometimes many after many, over the past few years. I will continue to purchase new fragrances as a special treat here and there, but this year, I want to truly experience and enjoy the fragrances in my collection. That means wearing each one of them, versus opening a new bottle, spraying it on for one day of wear, then opening a new bottle the next day, and repeating that cycle of trying to catch up with all of the new fragrances. If someone is a fragrance content creator and has a fragrance business like you have Greata, this type of routine is part of the job. If someone is just a fragrance enthusiast like I am, it makes sense to spend most of your "sprays" on what you have built your collection on, unless you can afford to be spending high five figures to low six figures a year on fragrances, candles, etc.
My forever collection also includes Delina Exclusif, Chanel No. 5, Rouge Smoking, & Note Vanillee in addition to Chanel No. 22, Ylang in Gold, Eau Duelle, The World According to Arthur, Italica, Lira, & Bouquet Ideale.
The can't live without: Valaya, Delina, MFK 540, Oud Satin Mood & Starlight. Yes, Ch. No.5 was my mom sig. scent, she got compliments. I still have her original bottle now more than a decade old and still "wearable". It will always be the #1 OG classic of perfumes.
I see a theme $$$$$$. Not surprised to not see designer on this list. The better brands use better ingredients and hire more skilled perfumers. Just finished my sample of NY 5th Avenue the other day. My favorite from the line. Love your blazer!

Love all your picks, Greta! Personally I dislike how the younger generations dismiss Chanel No.5 out of hand just because it smells "vintage" and has aldehydes. They don't even realize how modern perfumery wouldn't exist without this icon. And, thanks to the first time you raved about Xerjoff Soprano I got myself a sample. Gonna give it a test drive again tomorrow because I want the full experience!

Benevolence is wonderful! I love Delina too. Gris Charnel got me into BDK, but my favorite is Tabac Rose! That might actually fall in my top 10. Ok Rouge Smoking is great too, but I go Acqua Di Parma for that vibe. My favorite M. Micallef is Ylang in Gold. I would have to put Tubereuse Nue in my top 10 (a very polarizing scent). Maybe I should try hundred silent ways in warmer weather, because it didn’t knock me off my feet. Oh thanks for reviewing Soprano, because I was eyeing it
I don’t think Soprano has been moved into the new smooth bottle design(no velvet). Do you know if it’s been discontinued? It’s one of my favorite Xerjoff’s. In my top for sure.

Xerjoff changed “Sospiro collection” into the “V” Velvet collection and changed the caps. Then he changed the bottle to ceramic like glass last fall and changed name again to “V” Vibe collection. Sospiro is now back to their original owner and has taken off on their own.
I’m loving soprano!! When I opened it a month ago it was strong leather and patchouli but I let it sit for a few weeks and sprayed it today 😍😍 so beautiful and feminine with that fruity floral powdery lactonic feel! GS is a bold, ambery vanilla. Material is a more woodsy, resinous vanilla. I think both are straight down the middle. MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold would float a touch more femme to me.

Love all your picks, Greta! Personally I dislike how the younger generations dismiss Chanel No.5 out of hand just because it smells "vintage" and has aldehydes. They don't even realize how modern perfumery wouldn't exist without this icon. And, thanks to the first time you raved about Xerjoff Soprano I got myself a sample. Gonna give it a test drive again tomorrow because I want the full experience!

Benevolence is wonderful! I love Delina too. Gris Charnel got me into BDK, but my favorite is Tabac Rose! That might actually fall in my top 10. Ok Rouge Smoking is great too, but I go Acqua Di Parma for that vibe. My favorite M. Micallef is Ylang in Gold. I would have to put Tubereuse Nue in my top 10 (a very polarizing scent). Maybe I should try hundred silent ways in warmer weather, because it didn’t knock me off my feet. Oh thanks for reviewing Soprano, because I was eyeing it

I don’t think Soprano has been moved into the new smooth bottle design(no velvet). Do you know if it’s been discontinued? It’s one of my favorite Xerjoff’s. In my top for sure.

Xerjoff changed “Sospiro collection” into the “V” Velvet collection and changed the caps. Then he changed the bottle to ceramic like glass last fall and changed name again to “V” Vibe collection.
Sospiro is now back to their original owner and has taken off on their own.

The lavender tips a tiny bit masculine. The orientica is more unisex.

When I opened it a month ago it was strong leather and patchouli but I let it sit for a few weeks and sprayed it today 😍😍 so beautiful and feminine with that fruity floral powdery lactonic feel! You’re one of the people that made me want to try it- watched your old videos on soprano 🥰

Great video! I love MFK Grand Soir, but it is too masculine for me. I've heard that Material gives the same vibe but in a feminine way. Do you agree?
GS is a bold, ambery vanilla. Material is a more woodsy, resinous vanilla. I think both are straight down the middle. MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold would float a touch more femme to me.
