Coffee is not illegal in Saudi Arabia, lol! Only liquors! Labneh is some form of yogurt. And yes, Saudi isn't as strict as before during the reign of the muttawas (religious police - they were stripped of power some years back). The first food you ate at that local restaurant is called 'faham' (grilled chicken) and that reddish sauce is made of tomatoes and chilis, not pomegranate. It's like salsa. Saudis are nocturnal and you got the reason right - it's because of the hot weather during the day. You should have visited Al Ulah to see Madain Saleh/Hegra (sister city of Petra,Jordan), another UNESCO World Heritage site. And my favorite place in Saudi Arabia which is Tabuk, the setting of Exodus during Moses' (Musaa in Arabic) time. There you can see Jethro's tomb (father-in-law of Moses), the Red Sea crossing and split rock of Moses, golden calf altar and the real Mt. Sinai. I'm Filipino and I've been living and working here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the past 23 years now!
MIKEY!!! I LOST IT when you were eating the chicken and the little boys were watching you and laughing. It made my heart smile, but that chicken looked SO GOOD!

Hello Mikey and RJ! I was surprised to hear that you’re in Jeddah. Many OFWs would be thrilled to know you’re here, especially given our large community in the city. With Saudi Arabia becoming more open to tourism, Jeddah’s unique blend of history, culture, economic significance, and urban lifestyle really sets it apart from other cities. As for wearing shorts, I don’t think it’s forbidden, except in public offices. It’s not just Filipinos wearing above-the-knee shorts; you’ll also see many foreign males and locals jogging in shorts. Just make sure it’s appropriate for the setting. I hope to see you both when you return, and please let the Philippine Consulate know so they can show you what life is like in KSA and the real Arabian culture. Stay blessed!
@@sandrabentley8111 I understand your concern, but it's important to consider that experiences in Saudi Arabia can vary widely.
