  • The Garmin nuvi 1450 just stopped working after 8 years of use. I thought of just replacing it with a new one, but then figured it was worth a $20 investment to see if it could just be the battery.
    FIXED! A battery is all it took and it's working perfectly... back to taking odd side streets for no reason and detouring through strip malls or going left, around a block and back to where I started just to get back on track and take the right I would have in the first place... yep, PERFECT!
    This kit (currently $17.99) works on several Garmin nuvi models: amzn.to/3mKAPjr
    Compatible with the Following Garmin GPS Models:Garmin Nuvi 1400, Nuvi 1450, Nuvi 1450T, Nuvi 1490T, Nuvi 1490T Pro, Nuvi 1490LMT

    I am beyond impressed with the patient instructions in this video. I watched a procedure, paused, mimicked it, re-started and followed all the way through to the end. The best advice came early: take your time. I now have an 8-year-old Nuvi 1450 that is like new for $23.98 (price increase from Amazon). This is the best "how to" video on RUclips. Thank you!

    Hi Fred - it's funny you are showing this video - I just bought a tool kit for taking apart electronics to prevent scratching and nicks. Being a mechanic for most my life, well before switching careers that is the star type screwdriver as you called it is probably a Torx :) Merry Christmas !

  • @tedc1803
    @tedc1803 9 месяцев назад +1

    I tried the battery repair kit (Cameron Sino Technology, like the one you show) from Amazon and I have a Nuvi 1450. Everything was fine until I found the kit doesn't have the several tools you had. Only ONE torx driver and two plastic bezel levers, not the several drivers that came with yours. Of course, mine, a black handled one, is too big for the screws in the 1450. Now dead in the water. I wonder if the drivers are color coded for size? No idea on what size I need, but tiny! They still offer the one in the link you provided, so I'm returning mine and getting the one in your link. Warning to others: only order the kit with the several drivers!

    Mr. Dunn: Thank you so much for sharing this information. I have two Garmins now and will buy this kit to repair the old one and either keep it or give it to someone who is also "directionally challenged." Since I am subscribed to your channel I was lucky enough to receive this video. I also have to tell you that, although I live in a New York apartment and will never have the chance to raise honey bees, I still find the information you disseminate so very interesting.
    In a sharing vein, here is some information about a kit to repair a Luggage Cover for Volvo sedans and station wagons. The kit is $29.95 and can save between $200-$300 for a new cover. It can be found on eBay. I know this is totally irrelevant but maybe someone will find this information useful.
    Again, thank you for sharing this Garmin info, and I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    I've got a replacement battery for my nuvi65LMT on order. The battery never had much endurance. I suspect it was a refurb or returned item not disclosed at the time of sale. Or maybe the GPS runs on the battery and the plug only goes through the onboard battery charging port. Does your GPS last longer than about 1/2 with the battery as the only source of power?

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  9 месяцев назад

      There is a dislpay that shows the level of charge, and time of discharge based on current loading. So the length of backup power time available is directly related to what's connected to your unit. I can get 90 minutes of full desktop computer work done before having to shut it all down when on the battery.

    Why use an old outdated GPS though? You probably can't even update the maps on it still because Garmin might not even support that model anymore. So why bother? Just buy a new one with updated maps. Not that expensive. A GPS is only like 150 bucks. Why take all this time and effort and waiting for shipping when you can go to the store and be back in minutes with a brand new GPS?
