Just recently changed my 2017 Fiesta ST3 for this car and I can honestly say I've done the right thing! Yes, it's more expensive but it excels in every aspect over the Fiesta ST and I genuinely think it's a bit quicker and my ST had the Mountune 215 kit installed too! Great car!
Seeing a lot of B.S about the new guy, given its his first review of a relatively important car I think he did a great job. He reviews cars guys, he isn't an actor. Everything he's said is on point and punches home everything important to an Evo reader: the way the car feels and performs. Listen to what he's saying not to how he's saying it, besides you'd normally read the majority of his works.
"I can't believe the amount of fun I'm having. Its Incredible" -- while having the most serious/bored looking face while driving ever hahaha. But damn he can sure whip it! Nice vid
Useful video. I’ve just bought myself a 66 plate MCS 5dr all in black with 24,000 miles and can’t wait to take delivery next week. I know the styling of the 5dr is marmite, however I really like it and the extra doors make it more practical. I’m certain I’m going to be very happy with my new purchase.
such a fun little car! I always hated the new mini' because of the way they look, but after driving one a few years ago on a road trip I fell in love with the go cart handling.
Well done Dan, you are a welcome new wheel man to the team, articulation and oversteer go a long way. Mini, 189bhp from a 2ltr turbo engine that doesnt like to rev? Really? Much more to be had from that engine surely...
From what you have said, I really like this new cooper S. Only I really dislike the styling. We have a Vw golf gti 5 door and it just looks so much better, in my opinion.
as an older cooper s user (turbocharged one), newer sounds better i have to say. and you are the first person i heard that older engine was more fun. it looks hideous though.
yeah, I caught that too. an embarrassing case of "I don't know what to say about the steering so I'll just complain about the electric rack like everybody else does".
It looks good but here, the price of a 5 door mini cooper S is at 2,800,000 Php. Convert it and it would be a whooping 62k USD. The dealers in the country (only 2 of them) offer it at $62k starting price and I dont know why.
I think that's Dan's first effort at a full length video isn't it? Can be forgiven for being a bit stiff don't you think? I'm sure he'll ease up with practice - the content was good which is half the point…
Considering it was so fun and exciting, I didn't even see an attempt as a smile from this guy. Quite an incomplete review I feel with no comparison to rivals, especially when there are SO many alternatives in this marketplace.
Four door Cooper S is several hundred pounds lighter than the Countryman and it looks more like the two-door. Countryman is way bigger and Clubman has strange barn doors instead of a hatch.
love this video, looking at buying one of these 5 door S mini's, a Focus st, an Audi s1 or a Peugeot 308 gti and this videos reaaally pushing the mini on me, shame the S1 evo review is rubbish
Although you may be biased because your profile pic is an M3 :P, I do agree that on that particular video the M3 was presented as a failure on BMW's part, which kinda contradicts what everyone else says. Yes is different as much as the context forces it to be, but it still delivers 100% of what it aims for. Some people that are driving fanatics actually ordered one (I won't give names :P). True, the competition for COTY makes it fade in the background pretty quickly, but that still doesn't make it the car that was pictured.
I feel like you're not putting emotion into this review, you seem bord and don't want to do it. And it kinda makes me feel like your just good at reviewing things and are not a car guy
For it's fun, practicality, and uniqueness I actually like it a lot but I would NEVER get over the fake front hood scoop. I get some people just think it "looks cool," but I can't stand styling features based on real features that don't exist. This is an epidemic for most carmakers today.
If this is about the 5 - door version, why was no effort made to tell us about the room in the back or talk about the extra practicality from having the extra doors?!
I disagree. Granted it doesn't need to be a in-depth consumer review but potential customers who will be buying this over the 3 - door will be because of those extra doors, so we do need to know what difference they make .
The first gen BMW mini was great. Great steering, still one of the funnest cars I have owned. After 2006 everything went massive down hill. Theres nothing mini about Minis these days. They are now huge ugly lumps with crap steering and huge plastic arches. Wtf is up with the plastic arches?! The whole mini range is now hideous ugly for me. Bring back the first gen ethos. Keep them small and fun. Look at this thing compared to a first gen cooper s. What a monstrosity!
First gen BMW Mini was 75% Rover designed out of G Dec at Gaydon. I drove an R56 (2nd gen) and thought it quick - but dull and ugly soI bought the last of the superchargers and I love it
Damn it's ugly! Even the bread-van/hearse MINIs are good-looking by comparison! There's not a single redeeming feature about that body aside from the fact that it has 5 doors now. And I'll always prefer the old supercharged cars to any of the turbo Minis. They're so much more charismatic and responsive.
If it was my money, I'd lease this for a year or two at most. It isn't the best investment as a car. If I was to own a hot hatch in the long run, I'd either go with the Fiesta ST or Golf GTI. Mini are notorious for their reliability issues. This should have been addressed in the video. On a side note, the presenter should stick to writing, he isn't the best personality to put in front of a camera.
As an R53 Cooper S owner I found this informative and engaging. Good understanding of the various dynamics and settings and remained coherent - even when lift off over steering. Give the lad a chance - I know who'll who have more views by the end of the week.
MINI? That thing is bigger than my mk7 GTI. I had a r56. That was a real MINI. This is a, we'll there's no nice way to say it - this thing fucking sucks. You could almost land a 747 on the roof of that barge.
As an R53 Cooper S owner I found this informative and engaging. Good understanding of the various dynamics and settings and remained coherent - even when lift off over steering. Give the lad a chance - how was your first video received - oh you haven't posted one.
You're right, his review was informative and useful for someone in the market for whatever the hell this car is. That's why I recommended consumer reports (see my comment above). I'm not paid to create videos for automotive enthusiasts, but if I was I would probably smile a bit more. P.S. This is merely constructive criticism, although I don't want it to sound supportive. You know, when in Rome.
I d take a Subaru WRX for about the same price over this ugly (in my opinion), overpriced throwback to the real mini which this car embodies in idea only but misses the mark in all other areas. I guess the marketing guys were really leaning hard on the old heritage of the mini when trying to sell this one, probably made a few Brits feel misty eyed and thoughtfull of they're old Mini's while BMW went off laughing to the bank.
it's a nice car and it's not ugly
Dan you're a fantastic reviewer. More reviews from you please!
I've read a fair few of Dan's reviews on the print format, quality stuff. Nice to see him on the channel!
Great car!
4 doors on a mini is just wrong!
when You change the chrome Ring around the taillights to a Black one, the whole rear end looks more pleasant
Very good, informative and detailed review. I can almost feel the car described. Keep on!
Seeing a lot of B.S about the new guy, given its his first review of a relatively important car I think he did a great job. He reviews cars guys, he isn't an actor. Everything he's said is on point and punches home everything important to an Evo reader: the way the car feels and performs. Exactly! Heck of a lot of pressure for the first review and I'm sure over time he'll releax more in front of the camera. Good work Dan.
Most helpful car-review in terms of driving-dynamics I've seen for a long time. VERY GOOD!
"I can't believe the amount of fun I'm having. Its Incredible" -- while having the most serious/bored looking face while driving ever hahaha. But damn he can sure whip it! Nice vid
Great review - detailed, enthusiastic, interesting. Thanks guys!
Nice review Dan!

Excellent review from Dan - Looking forward to the JCW review!
such a fun little car! I always hated the new mini' because of the way they look, but after driving one a few years ago on a road trip I fell in love with the go cart handling.
I like this new guy. Very articulate and on point. He should do more reviews.
A surprisingly glowing review! Good to see MINI hasn't lost it's touch, even if the styling is too puffy.
Awesome review!
classics never let you down.
Good review
Well done Dan, you are a welcome new wheel man to the team, articulation and oversteer go a long way. Mini, 189bhp from a 2ltr turbo engine that doesnt like to rev? Really? Much more to be had from that engine surely...
BMW on point, this backend looks very good on track
I love my new mini!!
Andres Saavedra 😊
The rear lights are a bit too 'anime' lol. Don't know what BMW was thinking there.
I agree that when they lit up, they did look a bit like anime eyes but I really like these new mini lights
In person they look good, and the upgraded headlights are amazing!
true. the rear lights and the new styling in general is clearly aimed at the female market which is a shame
Schleberger
My grandparents use 'lol'... Not sure how you judge age with it
LOL
Nice review :)
Is it better or worse than the 3 door?
Contemplating part exchanging my Colt Ralliart for one of these but still not sure about the looks!
From what you have said, I really like this new cooper S. Only I really dislike the styling. We have a Vw golf gti 5 door and it just looks so much better, in my opinion.
I can't tell if it's Q7 or Q9 rival...
he is being sarcastic
More details about the interior??
as an older cooper s user (turbocharged one), newer sounds better i have to say. and you are the first person i heard that older engine was more fun. it looks hideous though.
Why is everyone talking about the rear, did you look at the front, that think hit ever ugly branch on the way down.
great reviewer !! one question tho, what happened to the other guy ? or do they both do reviews now ?
Electric steering? Erm. Hasn't that been on minis for ages?
Was about to post that lol... they've had electric power steering since 2007
yeah, I caught that too. an embarrassing case of "I don't know what to say about the steering so I'll just complain about the electric rack like everybody else does".
Try 2002 that they have had electric power steering in all minis as im sick of changing them out of cars and getting them refurbished
i like this guy
The rear lights are hideous.
... whole fucking vehicle is garbage and hideous
Can anyone please give this guy a soul?!?
Fwd slides! I like that. Well done bmw
A sexy interior and sounds nice.
But would still have a old cooper
Why? You idiot
i want one of this.....hopefully available in JCW S 5 doors...
Defnitely looks awkwardly long with the extra length and the tinted windows make it seem even longer somehow
It looks good but here, the price of a 5 door mini cooper S is at 2,800,000 Php. Convert it and it would be a whooping 62k USD. The dealers in the country (only 2 of them) offer it at $62k starting price and I dont know why.
Dan Prosser is a good presenter (y)
I think that's Dan's first effort at a full length video isn't it? Can be forgiven for being a bit stiff don't you think? I'm sure he'll ease up with practice - the content was good which is half the point…
Is he the Cold Play singer ?
is it AWD ?
FWD only
Considering it was so fun and exciting, I didn't even see an attempt as a smile from this guy. Quite an incomplete review I feel with no comparison to rivals, especially when there are SO many alternatives in this marketplace.
He smiled a little at 6:02 and that's about it. Lol
***** yeh and that's because he almost lost it
wurdup354 I thought he was good. I was glad to not hear the typical fake giddy laughter that seems to be part of car review videos now a days.
Why did they come out with this if they released the countryman and the coupe version of that
Four door Cooper S is several hundred pounds lighter than the Countryman and it looks more like the two-door. Countryman is way bigger and Clubman has strange barn doors instead of a hatch.
a real mans car...
Tbh id rather have the base 3 door 3 cyl. With a little cash added in it could be just as good as the S but also unique :)
Had one before. Recently upgraded to the 2.0S. Completely different animals...
Dan Prosser is the Journo's name; just in case anyone wanted to know.
love this video, looking at buying one of these 5 door S mini's, a Focus st, an Audi s1 or a Peugeot 308 gti and this videos reaaally pushing the mini on me, shame the S1 evo review is rubbish
I'd like him to wring the new M4/M3 on that circuit, to undo what they said about it on the ECOTY video.
Haha you're right on both counts :)
fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun... and fun. :) so many funs
It is, to quote SniffPetrol "fucking massive".
pretty sure all 'new' minis have had electric power steering, not just this latest version
Nice and strong car should available to be competitor with TOYOTA and KIA in Saudi Arabia
nice review, just wish he had a little bit more personality!
Ford focus st goes by
I feel like you're not putting emotion into this review, you seem bord and don't want to do it. And it kinda makes me feel like your just good at reviewing things and are not a car guy
Cool review for a gigantic car. What's lost in styiling was won in balance.
For it's fun, practicality, and uniqueness I actually like it a lot but I would NEVER get over the fake front hood scoop. I get some people just think it "looks cool," but I can't stand styling features based on real features that don't exist. This is an epidemic for most carmakers today.
The car was a saloon - i.e. it has a hard top. If you want a car with a hood, buy the cabriolet.
That is not a fake hoodscoop at first I thought so but when we opened the hood of Cooper there were 2 holes from the hood scoop so yeah case closed
189 bhp from a 2.0 turbo is kind of crappy
Even the early supercharged cars' 1.6's produced 169 BHP. Not far down from the new guy, but it weighed a hell-of-a-lot-less.
In what universe is this "mini"?
The car has 192 HP or 189 BHP you should know that!
This is incorrect. 😅
If this is about the 5 - door version, why was no effort made to tell us about the room in the back or talk about the extra practicality from having the extra doors?!
Evo's not about it. There are other channels for that.
I disagree. Granted it doesn't need to be a in-depth consumer review but potential customers who will be buying this over the 3 - door will be because of those extra doors, so we do need to know what difference they make .
No other Evo vid showed us rear seats etc.
Goodbye Mini, goodbye forever...
British Hipster
Too much "yeah", Dan.
Silly car

Me no wike IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Are we really testing a Mini S on a circuit? I mean, really? A JCW I'd understand, but this is meh. It's like testing a 3-series BMW on track, why?
Ghastly.
Mini grocery getter.
Stop talking about this car on the track....we get the point! There is no track around here in yorkshire!
Fa fa f a fa fuh fuh fa. Fa fa fa fuh fa fuh fuh! Fuf fuf fuf fluh.
Just buy a Triumph.
Definitely a car for the ladies.
Plop.
So it is a downgrade, got it
If it was my money, I'd lease this for a year or two at most. It isn't the best investment as a car. If I was to own a hot hatch in the long run, I'd either go with the Fiesta ST or Golf GTI. why BMW keep making bigger and bigger mini.... this is not mini anymore
My wife has a 2014 Cooper S, horrible car. Slow, cramped and noisy. She likes it though because of the colour..!
Its bloody hideous!
A bit too big to be called a mini.
Henry Catchpole back plz. The car is ugly
wheres jethrow this guy is chump
So this new guy doesn't really review cars, but rather try to sell them... Great EVO just got a bit more dull.
As an R53 Cooper S owner I found this informative and engaging. Good understanding of the various dynamics and settings and remained coherent - even when lift off over steering. Give the lad a chance - I know who'll who have more views by the end of the week.
Seems like a good car... Just a shame it looks butt ugly.

The mk7 GTI is 167.5 inches long and this Mini is 157.4 inches long. So even the bigger Mini is smaller.
His lifeless eyes and stoic demeanor tell me he should be working for consumer reports, not making videos for enthusiasts.

Sorry dude, nice try but boring. Lets see more of Richard Meaden and Henry Catchpole. They are the best. Jethro is good too.
Damn that's ugly!!
They've made this look like the Chinese knock off
My god is that guy annoying
The mini's are too big and they look hideous. Fire everyone in the design team. The older ones look far better.
+sillymoons oo Totally disagree.
Mini = SHIT
More British snakeoil cars
I d take a Subaru WRX for about the same price over this ugly (in my opinion), overpriced throwback to the real mini which this car embodies in idea only but misses the mark in all other areas.
