@robertbrown7408 - That rich voice developed in the 1940s, after he lost part of a lung due to infection following his trips to entertain the troops in World War II. Check out his recordings on the IAJS website www.jolson.org - where a rotating selection of his recordings are posted. I think you'll find some "blues" type songs among those included.
I discovered Al Jolson in the 1990s and later Frank Sinatra, my two favorite popular singers. Now I sing both of their songs at karaoke. Both have taught me a lot about singing.
Indeed, you have picked two singular singers, representing the top of their craft. Check out the Virtual Jolson Festival now on the website at www.jolson.org - maybe you will want to send along a Jolson karaoke to join others who have done so! Please do subscribe to this channel if you've not already, check out more material at the website, www.jolson.org, and consider joining the International Al Jolson Society for even more material and access to Jolson's legacy.
Thanks, yes, Jolson and Groucho had quite a relationship. Groucho was a frequent guest on Jolson's radio show, and was the guest at his last Kraft Broadcast, on Jolson's birthday, May 26, 1949, the source of this excerpt. Sadly AL JOLSON barely had over a year to live And now he's terribly underated and even cancelled PBS could easily do a total 4 hour documentary on the LIFE AND TIMES OF AL JOLSON unfortunately it wouldn't happen si
It would be considered politically Incorrect. Many Brits including Rod Stewart are big Jolie fans Maybe BBC could produce easier Who has contacts hint the OSCAR LEVANT episode w Al on RUclips is Classic 😁❤️

HOWEVER. there is a Documentary/ all but completed. This guy could have made a blues album...what a rich voice he had.

Thanks again, Marc!! Awesome 👏

Amazing Jolson was willing to put Groucho as the center of attention, and the funny insults.

Walter Wheeler Thanks. See the other Jolson Video podcasts for more entertainment
Al did really well to keep up with Groucho - very few people could.. Great voice, even nearing the end of his life.
A very lavish place.
