Couldn't afford to stay in Margaret River now, yuppies taken it over. Can't camp on the beach, we've lost our rights, it's sad. But the best memories 😎
I always believe Ian Mosse's voice is exceptional, accurate high notes and melodic. His voice can move around beautifully, his singing of the bow river song is emotional and passionate, 44 years on and Ian Mosse's voice is still strong.
Yes. We were so different back then. I spent my teens in the 80's. This video brought back so many images of the past. The fashions, hairstyles and the natural good looks.
That's Sally Ford in the film clip. She is a great player, and still gigging in Melbourne. The sax on the record is played by another great Melbourne saxophonist and band leader, Joe Camilleri (according to Wikipedia).
I arrived in Aussie from NZ in 1979, I was 17 years old Gee Whiz what a great time to be a teenager living in Brisbane. Cold Chisel was and still is the best band alive. The kids in those days were awesome. This song my baby is one of their best. The girls on the GC are still hot......
Ummm, yeah, okay. Except maybe for stealing garden gnomes whilst high on acid and skateboarding in rich peoples empty swimming pools when they weren't home etc
What strikes me is how shy and bashful the kids look. We were not used to living our lives in 24 hour video mode then. Makes me somehow sad that we have lost something and we will never get it back.
This track is soooo smooth. And it swings. Joe Camilleri's sax takes it to another level. A simple tune with simple lyrics; yet it floats so beautifully. Ian Moss' soul/blues vocals are the crowning glory of this most satisfying piece of work. Phil Small hit the nail on the head. Vale Steve Prestwich.
I can't believe that I have never seen this video clip. I've always loved the song but boy, did that take me back to a lot of things I'm not going to share with everyone. But, they WERE good times! Thank you for uploading this little Aussie gem and for the memories.
This particular performance isnt live but what I meant was that they could do it live, and did so many times. Unlike many manufactured artists these days.
Yeah, remember seeing Chisel at the Elizabeth rugby club in 79 with Jimmy swinging on a bottle of vodka and even though I was off my face,I thought even then these guys are going somewhere.Yeah the 80s were a great time to be alive, when the catch cry "party hardy"was at every gig and very little trouble because everyone was too busy having a good time.Great days.
Moi, been their fan for over 40 years. Have gotten to know them during the years, 16 shows now. Don Walker is the best songwriter, but Phil did here what I consider a perfect pop song.
I agree with Alan Burge. Raw. Such an amazing Aussie band and one of my favorites. I have a real love for the rawness of Aussie movies and music. Look at the classics of Strictly Ballroom, David Bowie s, 'Let's Dance', Original Mad Max, The Castle, Ac/Dc before moving to UK. Also think about The Models, and so many bands in that era. I was fortunate to see AC/DC in late 90's. Best band I have seen. Cherished for a lifetime🥰. I keep0coming back to this era because music soon changed to the MP3 format before we knew it. No one really follows artists any more because there is little connection with the swipe left/right approach. I am involved in start up I will not promote at this time as we are early stage and not appropriate. We are bringing the vinyl experience back. I'll let you know more when we get there.🙏. It's not that far away.
Always enjoyed Mossy’s blues-infused vocals. On another note, still have tinnitus in both ears from a certain gig at Thebarton Theatre when they toured that album (East).
I remember in the late 70s or early 80s driving two blocks away from Chisel playing in Surfers and saying it was too loud from where we were - I expect anyone inside suffered hearing damage.
Perfect... I'll watch this in the UK, knowing the band are undertaking their 50th anniversary tour. This Mikko clip brings me a little closer, even though I can't be at one of their shows

Thats when people could play and sing live.
Sadly, they're probably lip syncing to the studio track. The clue is it sounds precisely like studio, and the fade out at the end.
