Remember that episode where the Tenth Doctor (Sam Rockwell) lost his memories and called himself Crewman Number Six? And the Seventh Doctor (Tony Shalhoub) helped him get his memories back? Best. Episode. EVER.
I prefered the episode where 10 was stuck in a weird time loop on the moon and he had to team up with a past version of himself and a robot voiced by Kevin Spacey to escape the loop
Or that time the 9th doctor was being haunted by his future regeneration in an airport, refusing to accept he'd become so immature. That scene was damn hilarious.

Without a doubt, one of the most imaginative videos I've ever seen on YT. Well done, sir. A great twist on an iconic character. Great choice for all the Doctors - especially Wilder as #4.
I don't get why these "fans" are hating on this, I would've loved to have lived in this timeline and if I was, then by August, we'll finally see Cranston take on the role of the 12th Doctor, ah man I'm already getting chills just thinking about it! Nic Cage as Ninth? C'mon, you know that would've been hilarious and besides he'll just run for one season. Also, seeing Wilder, Mclachlan, Walken and Pryce in the old roles might give me the incentive to look them up as old doctors.
Cage as the ninth is PURE GENIUS. Eccleston played heavies and wanted to be a hero; Cage's filmography is full of characters I hated, but if he plays a hero he does it well.
Hmm. I wonder who would be the 13th Doctor? Since in real life this will be played by Jodie Whittaker, need to think of an American actress who would play the part. I am thinking Gillian Anderson would be a good choice.
Maybe Brie Larson, because of the parallels between her casting as Captain Marvel and Whittaker’s casting as 13, both were met with controversy, however for different reasons. But Gillian Anderson would still be the best pick. How about Kate Mara or Katee Sackhoff Also, Bruce Campbell needs to play him in this timeline.
Being a horror fan, I would have to say my favorite "American" Doctor would be Vincent Price because I know his era would be filled with great gothic stories... same way as Tom Baker is my favorite because of the plethora of horror stories in his era. Though I do like all the American casting choices... it's rather chilling to see how spot on they were in this alternate series.
For the Modern companies Britney Spears as Rose Tyler Zoey Saldana as Martha Jones Molly Ringwald as Donna Noble Bryace Dallas Howard as Amy Pond Camilla Belle as Clara Oswald Logan Browning as Bill Potts Josh Gadd as Nardole Nina Dobrav as Yasmin Khan Kelsey Grammar as Graham O'Brian Denzel Whittaker as Ryan Sinclair Seth McFarlane as Dan Lewis Emma Myers as Ruby Sunday
With regards to the :"American Doctor Who" series: I have to say, and I'm sure a lot of WHOvians will agree with me, that Sam Rockwell's three years on the show as the Tenth Doctor is my favorite run of the whole series - yes, even better than the Gene Wilder years ( heresy I know!!)during the late seventies. However, in my defense, I offer a perfect example of why Whedon and Rockwell worked so great together during their run: THIS, right here is one of my absolute favorite moments from the show: the scene from the Series Four finale: 'The Stolen Planet' - in which the Doctor (Sam Rockwell), is showing U.N.I.T how to 'properly' reverse the polarity of the Sonic- Suspension Beam that Davros (played by MADMEN's John Hamm) has used to steal the solar system in order to create New Skaro. ...And after another long, lengthy, jibber-jabberish explanation; the Birgadier asks just how the Doctor KNOWS its going to work, and Rockwell just flashes him "the smile" that we've all come to love.... Amiright??? sidenote: Some of you may recall that this episode is particularly popular due to the re-introduction of U.N.I.T., and its head commander: Brigadier Stewart (played by series regular Don Cheadle )
+sorry209 Me, I'm loving Cranston's 12th Doctor reminding the universe (and us fans) WHY he's not to be trifled with and why it's always a bad idea to hurt his friends. Don't get me wrong, he still has Wilder's off-kilter curiosity at times, but like Price, he has to patience for fools and Cage's anger is still there if pushed hard enough. Still it was a treat seeing Sarah Hyland come back as "Me" again as the Mayor of a hidden street in the middle of NYC.
Rockwell was my first Doctor but I think Glover will always be my favourite. He just came across as more eccentric, and I think he was better at portraying the Doctor as an old soul than Rockwell
Your math is off. It's 5 years, not 3. You're thinking of the Glover's doctor. Anyway, while I started with Cage and NuWho, I think Sam will always be my Doctor. Best of luck to Rosario Dawson all the same.
Firstly I love the Gene Wilder and Kyle McLachlan choices Secondly where are Vincent Price's speech (2:05-2:13) and the Sara Teasdale poem (2:53-3:40) from?
Vincent Price's speech (and maybe all of the Vincent Price clips, unless I am misremembering) comes from a movie called "The House of the Long Shadows" The reading of the Sara Teasdale poem, "There Will Come Soft Rains" is from a recording Burgess Meredith made of Ray Bradbury's short story of the same name, which contained the poem in question.
With Kate Mara as the Thirteenth Doctor, Whoopi Goldberg as The Futurative Doctor and Sam Rockwell as the Fourteenth Doctor and introducing Jack Quid as The Fiftteenth Doctor. 😁
+Solidus327 Watching MacLachlan and Rockwell bounce of each other for that charity special made my month! "Wow, still rocking the Fed look, that's cool and all" "Excuse me?" "I'm not gonna judge!" "Look, I'm in the middle of something here, so could you just keep your running commentary to your self, please?!"
@@wesprescott7277 nah...I'd say Jon Pertwee was the most sane, he was always reasonable and had a good head on his shoulders. But Nicolas Cage as the 10th would be a trip to see, omg, LOL! Been watching Cage Matches on Cinemassacre, funny stuff.
@@wesprescott7277 also, i dressed up as a dalek when i was like 11 years old in 1991 and scared the heck out of some kid dressed up as a Native American(Indian)...omg. I wanted a skateboard to roll around on, but i had to just kinda of hobble underneath the 100% accurate full scale Dalek shell my mom hand crafted from stuff after pausing a video we bootlegged off PBS for hours studying every minute detail...sadly, no pictures were taken as evidence, because that was the year the camera was broken. =(
Kudos to taking an already great idea and running with it ... the editing is pitch-perfect, and the inclusions of "multi-doctor" moments is outstanding.
Cool video. I still wholeheartedly think an Americanised Doctor Who just wouldn't work, or would be considered "not serious enough" to be as mainstream as the British one. But that's clearly not because of a shortage of good actors.
I still think Donald Glover was miscasted and they should have had Adam Brody be the 11th. I loved Brie's Amy Pond (the little Canadian girl who kept her accent) but Brody would have been the better pick. Still that scene when he first met Clara in old New York and the Great Intelligence was voiced by Patrick Stewart... yeah, Glover was great in that, I can admit.
Far better is the simply magnificent casting of Jeff Goldblum as the Eighth. It's a pity that the movie tanked in the UK, or the BBC's attempt to reboot the series might have succeeded.
Kevin Allen Well, I personally think that the reason the movie tanked was because of the casting of the Master. I mean,seriously-- Woody Allen? Yes, he wanted to expand his range beyond comedy, but still...
I gotta say, when it was announced that Harrison Ford would be in the 50th anniversary special, I was excited as hell out--Star Wars and Doctor Who were finally coming together! But when it was revealed that not only Ford would play a big part in the special but also as an unknown incarnation of the Doctor, I screamed the rooftop off my apartment!
True but the end of the Angels Take London was a tear jerker. Also, Doctor Who is proving surprisingly popular in the UK. So much so that they filmed large parts of Series 6 and Series 7 on location in the UK. So the episode in which River Song appeared out of Loch Siliceno was the Ponds were vacationing in Scotland was part of that, as was the episode in which the Doctor got to meet Harold Wilson.
Who can forget Susan Dey as Romanna II, her and the 4th Doctor were brilliant. It's such a shame the ABC destroyed most of Meredeth's and Van Dyke's episodes but I hear their trying to restore as many as they can...
+john smith Dude, seeing Van Dyke and Price arguing back and forth is always made of win, if you ask me. And I don't care what anyone else says, hiring Frank Welker as the new voices of the Daleks and Cybermen was genius!
Oh, and you can't forget the introduction of Don Marshall as Colonel Stewart in that Yeti story set in the New York City subway system - even then he and Van Dyke had an amazing chemistry together. And when he got that promotion to Brigadier and teamed up with the unforgettable Mr. Price, magic... pure magic. Of course, he also worked well with Gene Wilder... Don Marshall was just that good!
Sometimes I like to think of Carl Sagan as the American equivalent to the fifth doctor. I know he's not an actor like this, but still his personality just fit so perfect. The arbiter of peace, just wants to educate people about the cosmos. Just think about one of his most famous quotes. "The Cosmos, is all that ever was, is, or ever will be."
Didn't know what to expect when clicking on this judging from the title. Was impressed enough to write a comment commending its editing and choice of American actors over the ages. If it had been American, I can see each actor that was chosen being perfect for that time as the Doctor. Very well done.
This could be the First Doctor's reflection upon seeing an abandonned New York under the Brooklyn Bridge in the alternate history American Version of "Dalek Invasion of Earth".
Thank you for making this. It's definitely more fun to watch than the meager teaser trailers that the BBC has thrown at us for the first Capaldi series. Of course, you've just made me wish this really existed so that I could watch it all.
You would need an actress used to physical demands, but still recognizable to the public. As an American version of Jodi Whittaker, I would choose Julia Styles. Her work in the Bourne films would be the background needed to become the 13th (American) Doctor!
This is very good. I'm giving this a "like" mostly for Burgess Meredith's speech at end of video, it's so First Doctorish. Is it from one of the Rocky movies? I've never seen them, not really a Sylvester Stallone fan. I've liked several Meredith movies.
It's from a recording he made of the Ray Bradbury short story "There Will Come Soft Rains". In it is contained the poem of the same name by Sara Teasdale.
Sam Vestey Oh, thanks for answering. Silly me, I noticed Rocky, but not Bradbury, in credits. That's such a lovely, sad speech. I have a lot of old Bradbury paperbacks (from an inheritance) I've never read. I'll have to see if I have the story. Fahrenheit 451 is one of my favorite books. I enjoy this video more every time I watch. I tend to be attracted to quirky actors, many of the classic Doctor choices are personal favorites. Love Christopher Walken for 6th Doctor. I may be the only female Who fan who thinks Colin Baker's Doctor was hotter than David Tennant's 10th.
Lee Hurtado Yeah, the story is fantastic. I was experiencing it for the first time when I gave it a listen while researching for this video, and I was excited and planning to use a lot of segments from it as sound bites during the short, but then it got to the recitation of this poem and I knew I had to include it.
Seeing a video like this, and envisioning the possibilities makes me really wish that I could live in the parallel universe where Doctor Who was an American invention, because those actors playing the Doctor (I think) would be absolutely fantastic. Also imagining all the possible adventures you could have is really cool. Also, LOL, if The Day of the Doctor was an American episode, I think that the US would go out of its way to get every living actor who ever played the Doctor to be in that episode!
Man 11 ( Glover ) Had so many companions my favorite were Annie and Abed but they really worked better as duo to his doctor vs a solo companionship of just Annie at the start., Britta trying to date him was handled kind of awkwardly ut felt like a Doctor and annie stories but the they really tried lean into the romantic potential, Him and Jeff's playful rivalry was fun to watch, I wish Shirley had been his lone companion for one season she was hilarious mean while Pierce was really weird but kind of a nice shake up for the status quo, kind of wished he gotten be more of a on the tardis companion rather than a when the doctor stopped by companion The best part though Ken Jeong's Master the way he could go from inquisitive yet humble Senator"Ben Chang" to manical master Was amazing I mean he literally turned America into a dictatorship that takes skill.
This is a brilliant selection of clips. Dead-on, including the (apparent) addition of various SFX. I would've hoped to see a (de-chromaticized) clip from Mary Poppins of Dick Van Dyke dancing with penguins, or possibly "clips" from multi-Doctor episodes (though I don't know that any of these actors have ever worked together, at least in any appropriate films), but that's a tiny quibble.
Pretty good compilation. If only Americans got on board with the Dr Who it would have definitely expanded the franchise. One thing is for sure the special effects would have been much better as would the sets.
Yes, Vincent Price is a perfect stand-in for Jon Pertwee, and Harrison Ford for John Hurt (his 'War Doctor" talk about war & morality fit perfectly), & the narration of the Sara Teasdale poem There Will Come Soft Rains was beautiful. Any thought of using footage of the walking Statue of Liberty in Ghostbusters 2 as the Weeping Angel in The Angels Take Manhattan ?
Welp, Sam Rockwell is back as the 14th doctor, that’s unexpected.
Man Wilder's "You lose" monologue to Davros at the end of Genesis Of The Daleks is one of my favorite Doctor Who moments of all time
Yeah just before he blew through the roof of Davros’ ship with the TARDIS was so epic

Probably the best fan casting I've ever seen.
I think I'd sell a kidney to see a Christopher Walken-Doctor.
Something feels so wrong yet so right about Harrison Ford and Donald Glover playing technically the same character lol
I don't know why everyone is upset the ABC cast Kate Mara to replace Cranston, I say give her a chance first.
kate mara.. nice
Not bad i like
The same thing with Whoopi Goldberg as the fugitive doctor

Rich Goranson Oh, yeah... that's true.
I love the idea of Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as the Seventh Doctor - the dark yet laid-back portrayal they were hinting at has won me over completely.

Hmm. I wonder who would be the 13th Doctor? Since in real life this will be played by Jodie Whittaker, need to think of an American actress who would play the part.
I am thinking Gillian Anderson would be a good choice.
Gillian Anderson is a great choice!
Maybe Brie Larson, because of the parallels between her casting as Captain Marvel and Whittaker’s casting as 13, both were met with controversy, however for different reasons.
But Gillian Anderson would still be the best pick.
How about Kate Mara or Katee Sackhoff
Also, Bruce Campbell needs to play him in this timeline.
@@tardis7395 i mean kata mara would not be a bad choice
Being a horror fan, I would have to say my favorite "American" Doctor would be Vincent Price because I know his era would be filled with great gothic stories... same way as Tom Baker is my favorite because of the plethora of horror stories in his era.
Though I do like all the American casting choices... it's rather chilling to see how spot on they were in this alternate series.
For the Modern companies
Britney Spears as Rose Tyler
Zoey Saldana as Martha Jones
Molly Ringwald as Donna Noble
Bryace Dallas Howard as Amy Pond
Camilla Belle as Clara Oswald
Logan Browning as Bill Potts
Josh Gadd as Nardole
Nina Dobrav as Yasmin Khan
Kelsey Grammar as Graham O'Brian
Denzel Whittaker as Ryan Sinclair
Seth McFarlane as Dan Lewis
Emma Myers as Ruby Sunday
Sometimes I come back and watch this and remember how fantastic this video is. So good
I just did this.
Hugh Grant as Captain Jack!
With regards to the :"American Doctor Who" series:
I have to say, and I'm sure a lot of WHOvians will agree with me, that Sam Rockwell's three years on the show as the Tenth Doctor is my favorite run of the whole series - yes, even better than the Gene Wilder years ( heresy I know!!)during the late seventies.
However, in my defense, I offer a perfect example of why Whedon and Rockwell worked so great together during their run:
THIS, right here is one of my absolute favorite moments from the show: the scene from the Series Four finale: 'The Stolen Planet' - in which the Doctor (Sam Rockwell), is showing U.N.I.T how to 'properly' reverse the polarity of the Sonic- Suspension Beam that Davros (played by MADMEN's John Hamm) has used to steal the solar system in order to create New Skaro. ...And after another long, lengthy, jibber-jabberish explanation; the Birgadier asks just how the Doctor KNOWS its going to work, and Rockwell just flashes him "the smile" that we've all come to love....
Amiright???
sidenote: Some of you may recall that this episode is particularly popular due to the re-introduction of U.N.I.T., and its head commander: Brigadier Stewart (played by series regular Don Cheadle )
+Anthony Eldridge And Allison Janney as Missy is fantastic.
Rosario's first season was alright ^_^ Though I seem to be in the minority here.
Firstly I love the Gene Wilder and Kyle McLachlan choices
Secondly where are Vincent Price's speech (2:05-2:13) and the Sara Teasdale poem (2:53-3:40) from?
Vincent Price's speech (and maybe all of the Vincent Price clips, unless I am misremembering) comes from a movie called "The House of the Long Shadows"
The reading of the Sara Teasdale poem, "There Will Come Soft Rains" is from a recording Burgess Meredith made of Ray Bradbury's short story of the same name, which contained the poem in question.
With Kate Mara as the Thirteenth Doctor, Whoopi Goldberg as The Futurative Doctor and Sam Rockwell as the Fourteenth Doctor and introducing Jack Quid as The Fiftteenth Doctor. 😁
Kyle Maclachlan as the fifth would be so awesome. Would love to see him in the current series as a time lord or something
+Solidus327 Watching MacLachlan and Rockwell bounce of each other for that charity special made my month!
"Wow, still rocking the Fed look, that's cool and all"
"Excuse me?"
"I'm not gonna judge!"
"Look, I'm in the middle of something here, so could you just keep your running commentary to your self, please?!"
I really hope this goes as viral as the blog did. It's really impressive.
Burgess Meredith and Vincent Price? Two actors who were villains in the 1960s Batman series?
I was thinking that!
But let's not forget The Curse of Fatal Death, starring Robin Williams as the Doctor.
Now we just need the Thirteenth!
2022 edit: And the Fifteenth!
Oh GOD Robin as The Doctor. That....I'm gonna go cry now.
@@JnEricsonx ...don't worry you're not alone in that department.
Emily Wickersham or Kate McKinnon as 13?
@@tardis7395 I'm not too familiar with Wicksham, but McKinnon I think would be a fun energetic 13th Doctor.
Tardis739 how about Claire Danes
OH MY GOD NIC CAGE
BUT LEGIT HE MAKES SO MUCH SENSE LIKE IN MARY POPPINS OMFG I JUST HAD A MENTAL BREAKDOWN
……….OR IS IT BREAKTHROUGH???
High praise
Now I'm going to forever grieve that this could never be a real thing. Kyle MacLachlan would have been amazing in that role.
This is still a masterpiece
At first I was like, "Nick Cage? Really?"
But then I was like, "Yeah, we need a few weird ones here and there."
Like Christopher Eccelston was the most sane Doctor ever.
Kenko706
Yeah, that was truly sad. Still, thank god Joss Wheadon came in and rebooted the series before he passed it off to JJ Abrams.
Kevin Allen
Well, I personally think that the reason the movie tanked was because of the casting of the Master.
I just now discovered this... this videos is amazing!
this is the best thing ever made of all time you are a genius
Love this casting and the excellent choice of clips. Would Captain Jack Harkness be Australian in this AU then?
Good call, sounds like a job for Hugh Jackman!
This is brilliance beyond brilliance!!
Christopher Walken truly looks spectacular as the Doctor, that's quite amazing.
This is done so well!
Bravo!
Now that I've seen Solo: A Star Wars Story, I know who Donald Glover is and I support him being the Doctor. L3-37 has to be his companion, though.
Super impressive-loved this!
12th Doctor: Clara we need to cook!
Who can forget Susan Dey as Romanna II, her and the 4th Doctor were brilliant. It's such a shame the ABC destroyed most of Meredeth's and Van Dyke's episodes but I hear their trying to restore as many as they can...
john smith I see what you did there, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice AND salt on it! ::Cries:::
"The Cosmos, is all that ever was, is, or ever will be."
this fan casting has some very good picks for an american doctor
That WAS a hell of a thing.
I can see every one of these actors as their respective Doctors.
Didn't know what to expect when clicking on this judging from the title. Was impressed enough to write a comment commending its editing and choice of American actors over the ages. If it had been American, I can see each actor that was chosen being perfect for that time as the Doctor. Very well done.
The "There Will Come Soft Rains" was very moving and very 1st Doctor departure
This could be the First Doctor's reflection upon seeing an abandonned New York under the Brooklyn Bridge in the alternate history American Version of "Dalek Invasion of Earth".
Ray Bradbury would totally have written for this show.
Walter White as The Doctor? I got goosebumps!
This my friend is possibly my most favourite thing on the WHOLE internet right about now :D
Please make an updated version 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm still bitter that they passed over Billy Bob Thornton as Nine. "Lots of planets have a South!"
"Can we talk this over?" Totally sounds like something The Doctor would say! And Vincent Price would have made a great Doctor!
Thank you for making this. It's definitely more fun to watch than the meager teaser trailers that the BBC has thrown at us for the first Capaldi series. Of course, you've just made me wish this really existed so that I could watch it all.
Every several months or so I come back and watch this video again. It is such a lovely game of "what if?"
This need an update, especially now with the first Female Doctor
who would you cast?
Tatiana Maslany would be an amazing Female Doctor - the brouhaha could rise out of the fact that she's Canadian.
I think Kate McKinnon would be good too.
You would need an actress used to physical demands, but still recognizable to the public. As an American version of Jodi Whittaker, I would choose Julia Styles. Her work in the Bourne films would be the background needed to become the 13th (American) Doctor!
Scarlett Johansson as the Thirteenth Doctor hands down
This is very good.
Kitty Plechaty
You'll find "There Will Come Soft Rains" in "The Martian Chronicles." And the story Bradbury built around that poem is DEVASTATING.
Lee Hurtado Yeah, the story is fantastic. I was experiencing it for the first time when I gave it a listen while researching for this video, and I was excited and planning to use a lot of segments from it as sound bites during the short, but then it got to the recitation of this poem and I knew I had to include it.
Lee Hurtado That's great. I know I have The Martian Chronicles. I' ll definitely be reading the story soon.
Man 11 ( Glover ) Had so many companions my favorite were Annie and Abed but they really worked better as duo to his doctor vs a solo companionship of just Annie at the start., Britta trying to date him was handled kind of awkwardly ut felt like a Doctor and annie stories but the they really tried lean into the romantic potential, Him and Jeff's playful rivalry was fun to watch, I wish Shirley had been his lone companion for one season she was hilarious mean while Pierce was really weird but kind of a nice shake up for the status quo, kind of wished he gotten be more of a on the tardis companion rather than a when the doctor stopped by companion
The best part though Ken Jeong's Master the way he could go from inquisitive yet humble Senator"Ben Chang" to manical master Was amazing I mean he literally turned America into a dictatorship that takes skill.
The Eighth Doctor audios on Audible are amazing and it was great seeing Goldblum reprise his role in "The Night of the Doctor"
i was worried as hell when i saw the link but pleasantly surprised. that was really good. interesting choices too.
You obviously did a ton of work editing all that together, it's really well done. Great job!
Glad to have Sam Rockwell back as the 14th Doctor, but I really can't wait for Michael B Jordan to step into the TARDIS!
Gene Wilder as the Fourth Doctor is absolutely inspired! I’m fairly certain Willy Wonka is a time lord anyway.
I cannot love this ENOUGH! :)
Great video Sam, and to this list I would have added Robert Lansing, with clips of him from the *Assignment: Earth* episode of _Star Trek: TOS_
....THAT WAS BRILLIANT! This needs a lot more views!
Pure dead brilliant. I'm standing and applauding you!
Why hasn't this exploded yet? !
I forgot this genius piece of imagining existed!
Missed a great opportunity to cast Grace Jones.
You did a really good job of putting this together and editing.
An alternative history...and it looks brilliant!
[via Yonatan Zunger]
Maybe in a parallel universe this has been done.
Pretty good compilation. If only Americans got on board with the Dr Who it would have definitely expanded the franchise. One thing is for sure the special effects would have been much better as would the sets.
Nathan Fillion as 10
all these actors are great choices as the Doctor.
What hard work you put into this!
Thanks!!!
Very Clever alot of hard work has gone into this well done
Dang, this would be an epic series. I could totally see a version where Doctor Who meets American Doctor Who.
Why? Alternate Universes, that's why.
Still not a ginger xD
