When we were classmates in high school I told you "listen to this song, it's beautiful". A few months later we kissed for the first time. The first Christmas together you prepared all the Sigur Ros CDs by printing the covers from the web because being students we didn't have the money to buy them originals. On one of them you wrote "I hope they will keep you company while you drive to my house". Then we grew up together for many years, lived abroad and faced the difficulties of life together. Now that you are gone it's emptiness at every step. You were my first love and I will always love you. In the bathroom I still keep your toothbrush in the hope that one day you will return. In the meantime, when, as now, I listen to this song, I think back to us.
This song is out of this world, probably my favorite ever! I want this played at my funeral, been a fan of Sigor Ros ever since I saw Vanilla Sky. Pure genius!
This song is so nice that my wife and I used it in our wedding. This is what she came down the isle to. Right at 1:06 is when the doors opened and I saw her! Between her and this song I lost it and just broke into tears!
this kind of songs have the perfect combination of sadness, liberty, peace, hope, pain, loneliness, love, strength and forgiveness... its simple and complex, like itself... just ear and feel... take your conclusions.... excellent!
This song proves to me that there can truly be happiness and sadness at the same time. Imagine a good and bad feeling which can not cancel each other. You would think these forces truly would leave you at a neutral position in any case but the fact of the matter is that it leaves you in a lost parallel axis only to find that truly is it as bad as it seems. Good does not always defeat evil as your mind bounds you to a cerebral prison in which escape is impossible but rather punishable by death.
gives me the chills. to me this song represents the end of something beautiful and teters on the edge of the happiness it gave you and sadness that accompanies the end of something really good.
Many moons ago, I was experiencing extreme writer’s block for just over a month but had 2 15-20 page papers due for a couple of Philosophy honours classes. This track randomly came on one of my playlists and the words started to flow. It sounds crazy put I placed this track on a loop for about a couple of hours and both papers just wrote themselves. It was magical and I am forever grateful for this fabulous musical masterpiece.
Fucking incredible band. Soundscapes, the purest textures of color and tone that words can't describe. Simply beautiful...the kind of beauty that makes you cry because you are at peace with everything when you hear, see, touch, smell, taste, that special place we all have inside of us. What would the world be without music? I'd rather be dead than to find the answer to the question. Some things can't be taken from you...music is one of them. It rests in your heart and your soul...forever.
avedic Danke. Music is my oxygen, my sustenance, my therapy. Without it, I would've been dead years ago. Music, like math...is absolute and UNIVERSAL. Thanks for your comment, cheers!!!!
Will always remind me of my freshman year in college, fall semester 2001. Right around 9/11. Vanilla Sky came out around that time too, with this song being used at the ending -- when they're on the building and we see the montage of his life. Great song, brings me right back.
I like that interpretation. This song is always the crutch I go back on when life is a bit shit... helps me wallow in my depression but somehow get a strange pleasure of it.............possibly my favourite song of all time.
Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since i've heard this. Reuniting with music like this after years is happy and sad at the same time. I'm grateful to have it back, but sad that I abandoned it for so long.
This song, for me, encapsulates the feeling of a Portuguese word that I discovered, 'saudade', a concept that has marked my entire life. A feeling of yearning for something that might not exist, an existential sorrow that feels greater than me, more than mere fleeting sadness. Something that will continue to haunt me forever, I expect. But when I hear this song I feel that I am not alone, at least.
Saudade is not a good thing! You get stuck in a place that you don't know and, therefore, you live in a imaginary world where everything is beautiful and ethereal... And that's bad because you're living a lie and not living at the same time, trust me I'm Portuguese...
If you see them live once, you'll want to see them again. They sound as good as in the studio, and their music gives anything but a corpse goose bumps.
Look at us… I’m frozen & you’re dead… and I love you…. It’s a problem ….. Remember what you said… “every passing minute, is another chance to turn it all around” I’ll see you in another life, when we are both cats ❤❤❤❤
I remember seeing them 20 years ago at the Granada Dallas TX. The crowd was left speechless. No one knew whether to clap or cry (in a good way). It was unforgettable.
I wonder if this song would mean as much to me if it was not connected to the emotions invoked by the movie it was sync'd to? People eith love Vanilla Sky or hate it. It makes me feel good to be with others who are moved by that final scene.
SouthwayJunebugg's Lyfe me too, I feel like my life has been just a piece of poop. And somehow I've been cursed to live a life of sadness and pain. Like if god punished me:o and then get I listen to this and I feel somewhat a sense of peace
On the album ( ) which this song is from, Jonsi sings in "vonlensk" (hopelandic). It's just sounds and made up words that sound beatiful, and has no meaning. It's open for interpretation :)
Without Sigur Ros and Radiohead, Vanilla Sky would've been so much less that what it could've been, which is a fantastic movie. Sigur Ros is like Morgan Freeman - if they're in it, it's automatically better ^-^
@@angelamonteiromendes6846 Actually, Love_Morphine might be right. I do know for a fact that the version in Vanilla Sky is a live version. I remember an interview saying they had to use a live version for the film because at the time they hadn't finished and recorded the Unititled album yet. Vanilla Sky came out in Dec 2001, while ( ) didn't come out till Oct 2002. I'm just not sure it's the same live version, but if it isn't it sure is similar.
Jonsi is singing in what's called Vonlenska, or Hopelandic, which they describe as "gibberish lyrics" that fit the music, kind of like scat singing in jazz. The phrase that is repeated in this song, and throughout the ( ) album in some form is this: "You xylo, you xylo no fi lo. You so."
Perhaps their "signature" song. Purely majestic. I didn't think I could love it any more until I saw them perform it live last year. That took it to a whole new level. The whole crowd was hushed in silent amazment of the beautiful sound they were hearing. Best concert I've EVER been to.
My 12 year old cousin laughed at me when I first told him of this song. Now, he thinks its the coolest thing ever. Funny how music like this can reach to people of all ages.
This is your modern day Pink Floyd. I mean with Pink Floyd and Signor Ros if you take just the vocals alone you would not say they are "great singers". If you take the drumming and baseline alone you say nothing a person in marching band couldn't play. (Example..this song and Floyd's Us and Them)..but when it all came together...OMG...Pure Magic! I love groups that make you "Feel" more than hear.
@yesplease91 Oh yes. I agree totally. I was not trying to say they were like Pink Floyd as much as say Pink Floyd and Ros are two bands where the sums of their part are100 times that of each individual artist. Seems like most bands these days have one or two incredible musicians who are brought down by the rest of the band lol.
Get their album with them streaking on the cover? They title a song or two based after the english language, That's not much, but I still am interested, as that particular record was mostly created in the states, so the tiny print reads...
One of the best Pieces of music ever written. To me they are singing It’s I alone, It’s I off alone… Still gets me through the days after all these years. It’s interesting because it can mean whatever you want

I named my daughter Sigurrós Lena!! You all have a nice weekend. Cheers from Iceland.
I ♥️ Iceland
What's that mean in English?????
@@williamsmith8041 Sigur Rós directly translates to Victory Rose but a common name in Iceland and is also the name of Jónsi's sister.
