    I remapped arrow keys to Ctrl + HJKL. That is second best decision I've made after replacing CapsLock with Ctrl, HHKB style (I still have regular keyboard). Now I can use vim-like navigation in any program.

    I have the HHKB type S. There's a way to avoid pinky fatigue when pressing the function key by holding the button down in a certain way. But it's difficult to explain via text. So I'll try to give you instructions.
    Firstly, hold your right hand out in front of you with your palm facing the ground. Next, rotate your hand clockwise 90 degrees so that your palm is facing to your left. Bend your fingers halfway inwards. Position your pinky over the FN key. Press down on the FN key and then reach out to the arrows with your index and middle fingers.
    In case the above instructions didn't work, here's another: hold your hand in a 'claw' position. Whilst maintaining your hand in this position, rest the side of your pinky on the FN key, then reach out to the arrow keys with your index and middle finger.
    Both instructions above result in the same thing, but they're just explained drastically differently.
    If I was clear and you understood either of the instructions above, you're now holding the FN key down in a way that produces less strain and tension in your pinky finger.
    Another option is to turn on the dip switch that changes the left windows key into a function key. Then you can remap WASD or ESDF to the arrow keys whilst holding down the newly remapped function key with your left thumb.

    Really enjoyed this video. I recently purchased a HHKB and got it discounted as well. I'm in the process of learning to touch type so I can take fun advantage of its productivity boost.

      @@wireshark101 the best resources I used were keybr.com and typing.com. it's supposed to be slow, you're completely remapping your muscle memory built up over many years, so don't feel discouraged at all. you just gotta persevere, there's no secret to it honestly!

    Thanks to a Japanese cult classic, my keyboard grail quest has finally come to conclusion. ☀️ Lubed Topre-switches for the win! By far the greatest keyboard I’ve ever owned. By the way, you can play around with power saver mode with the dip switches.

    My dream board! Still quite pricey for me tho. I'm agree with sometimes after typing for a long period our fingers got fatigue. Especially typing on firm board like top mount or traymohnt. I recently recognise that switches also impact my fatigueness when typing.
    Now I'm still enjoying my 60% and have chance to arrange the keymaps like hhkb through VIA. Not gonna sell it for maybe very long time, coz its have gasket mount structure and make a really really soft typing experience. Last, I still looking for linear switches that suit me. I believe its gonna hard 😂😂

    You end the video by saying that this keyboard is an investment into your productivity, but I did not really get from the rest of the video why that is so. I would have liked you to go over the layout a bit more -- how the differences to standard layouts improves your efficiency. For instance, I understood that there is a function key next to the right shift, but I did not get an impression on how you use it, or how it helps you specifically. Cheers.

    • @pzrsa
      @pzrsa  6 месяцев назад

      really appreciate this feedback!
      the main efficiency boosts come from the positioning of the control and backspace keys. theres less finger gymnastics needed for me to do combos with ctrl, and backspace being closer means less time to reach. the esc key position was something I was already used to coming from a 65%, so using that with vim was already quick.
      I would also say that the keyboard in general being so compact forces me to use keymaps in places I normally wouldn't with say my macbook keyboard. plus it forces me to not move my fingers too far from the home row, and move my fingers maybe 3 or 4 keys at max in each direction.
      and yeah you're right, I think I waffled a bit about the function key being the most important one, but I think I meant that as in it just activating the second layer which has the arrow keys, and I ofc use those quite a bit.
      hope that cleared things a bit, and I do agree I should've gone a bit technical with things. I'll try to be more specific going forward.

    Hey, great video. I'm interested in hhkb keyboards (for programming/typing. However, the price is a little steep for me. Do you have any recommendations for alternatives that would offer a similar performance at a more affordable price? Thanks.

    • @pzrsa
      @pzrsa  6 месяцев назад

      thanks! in general keyboards with topre switches or the hhkb layout are on the pricey end.
      before buying this hhkb I did some research, and I found some mechanical keyboard kits with the hhkb layout (like the d60 lite from kbdfans for ~$120). but honestly wasn't sure on quality, so I think if you could find a way to purchase the original it is a worth while investment. try finding one second hand.
      if not, I don't think you could go wrong with a keychron keyboard, specifically the k2, k3, k6, or k7. they might not be a hhkb, but they're very hard not to recommend.
      hope this helps.

      Just save up for it, mx switches are nothing like the topre stems and domes. If you want it for a work board it's very hard to go past, for gaming not really that amazing but ok.

      I really like the Rama Kara as well for a cheaper MX option.

      I do agree that while I don’t type as fast as I do with my MX, I can type more comfortably for longer with the Topre.
