    The Spanish Guitar you hear is actually an Indian Sitar. The riff is hard to play on guitar in standard tuning because you have to bend the strings to hit those micro tones a sitar is known for. The song was used in the 80s as an intro to a Vietnam tv series called Tour of Duty.

    • @christinerobinson9372
      @christinerobinson9372 2 года назад +2

      As Yves points out, it is a Sitar, not Spanish Guitar. But good job noticing the different sound, which I failed to do. But then, being a woman, I was focused on the lyrics! 😄

    It’s about his wife/ girl died. In England a tradition when you paid off your mortgage and owned your house you would paint your door red. Now he wants it black because she died.
    ‘I see a line of cars all painted black
    With flowers and my love never To come back.’ =Funeral parade and hearse.

      I found no reference to the death of anyone connected with any of the band members, and I did find a line saying "the lyrics are a bit of a mystery", so it seems that it is a poetic death in a lyrical story, and not about anyone's personal loss of a loved one. But it's a very good poetic death in a lyrical story!

    • @jamestickle3070

      @@christinerobinson9372 yes, I meant the ‘singer’s’ wife or girlfriend died, not Mick’s actual wife. The lyrics are poetic about losing a loved one. But not autobiographical.

      @@jamestickle3070 - That's interesting. I didn't know about that tradition in England....In America it's actually somewhat the opposite. When you're in deficit you're said to be "in the red," and when you're making a net profit then you're "in the black."

    Church doors are often red. He wants them painted black to match his feelings. The line of black cars is the hearse and the funeral procession. The flowers and his love will not come back because they will stay at the graveyard. Death, like a newborn baby happens every day

      I agree LeAnn. It was a magical time musically. My older (4yrs) sister and I spent all our money on records. We had both of these and MANY more. Quite an eclectic collection. I was just a teeny bopper and was into Monkees, Herman Hermits, BeeGees (pre-disco), etc - along with such classics as Yummy Yummy Yummy, I have Love in My Tummy - LOL LOL. Thank God my sister had more mature tastes, so I also grew up with Hendrix, Stones, Who, Cream and all the great 60's classics. I wonder what happened to all those 45's?? I would love to have them now.

    There is something about the early Rolling Stones era, with the original line-up, that they never recaptured once Brisn Jones was no longer there. They became a more powerful live band and produced arguably the most perfect 4 album run in rock history, but there was something about the energy and willingness to experiment about the original Stones.
    And all that after beginning life as a straight up rhythm and blues band.

    So Biz, I've been watching your steady climb into The Stones ! For the most part, you've covered most of the different styles of the stones . And i was just about to introduce you to the "funky" side of the Stones with a song called MISS YOU ! But then heard you were thinking bout doing the album SOME GIRLS ! If so, well then I believe that MISS YOU is the opening track on that album ( either the 1st or 2nd track,, I think )! But if for some reason you don't do the album , definitely go check out MISS YOU ( I think you will 100% enjoy the funky side of the stones) ! Anyway , I'm gonna go catch up on all your other reactions !! Keep on rockin , bro !!

      Awesome bro !! If your going with SOME GIRLS,,that's definitely a good choice ! You kinda got to be selective when doing Stones albums ( the die hard Stones fan will probably be on my ass for this LOL ...but 65% of Stones albums,, there is a lot of "filler" ! Which really cant blame the band too much, cause they were always touring 9 to 10 months a year) ! But as of the early 2000s, they had about 8 albums in the Rolling Stones (magazine) top 500 albums of all time ! Now those are awesome, you stick to those and you'll be just fine ( off the top of my head...Some Girls was on that list and Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St , Beggars Banquet , Let It Bleed and a couple others ( cant think of all of them right now) ! But you really seem to be getting into the band, and those albums plus a couple I couldn't remember are a "MUST" ! Anyway, just didn't want you to go on a ALL OUT every album review , I think you'd be a little disappointed ( like I said,, there were times the band just didn't have the time to go all out on many of their albums ! Their a "LIVE" band, and touring around the world and selling out stadiums( for 60 years) was their thing ! BUT..when they had the time...they created "MASTERPIECES " !!

Finally everyone goes thru this blackness sometime so what is the big deal...ROLL ON STUNNING STONES...

    OMG! I'm gobsmacked. Look at it this way: The early Beatles had a very unsophisticated sound, and the lyrics were all about young love. Very much like the music they grew up on, but they brought a new energy to it, and they soon began exploring very new ideas. The Stones came on the scene close after the Beatles, already their sound and lyrics were more sophisticated. And then, Led Zeppelin, with a new hard edge to their rock sound. How you could get that wrong I don't know. You don't have to know who was first, just listen to their first albums, it's so obvious. The Beatles were first, their audience was younger, 13, 14, 15. The Stones came immediately after, their audience was 16, 17, 18. And then Zeplin. 17, 18, 19. Young love, easy instrumentation. More sophisticated lyrics, more exploratory instrumentation. The introduction of hard rock. 1,2,3. Beatles, Stones, Zeplin.

    Here is something I have noticed about all male reactions: you always talk about the instrumentation first. To women, the lyrics are the most important part of any song. We love the music and the instrumentation too, and the expertise of the musicians, but first, it's the lyrics and the meaning. That is the singular most important part of any song to women, what is the poetry about? Not so for men. For men, it's the expertise of the guitar player, the drummer. It's the sax, or the bass. What instrument is that? Is that a piano or a synth? The lyrics come later, and they always come with a question, "what does he mean by that?" Women rarely need to ask, "what does he mean". We get it. And the instruments we get later, and we get them one by one. After we learn the lyrics, then we devote attention to the drummer, the guitar solo, the bass. I don't mean to say that one way of listening is wrong and the other right, it's just a difference between male and female reactions I've noticed. I mention it as a point of discussion and interest, nothing else.
