      I am a long time MGS fan, and I looove MGS V - it is probably my favourite game. Yes, it is a bit unfinished. A few of those plot lines lead to nowhere and the story in general wasn't as coherent as for example in MGS1 or MGS3.
      But the gameplay - MY GOSH THE GAMEPLAY🤯🤯🤯. Also the controls. And it has content for months (in my case: years). And on the technical side: smooth 60 fps on PS4 in an open world game.😊👍🏻

      so in the ripe old year of 1994 I had an NES, the SNES was all the rage but we couldn't afford it. I saved up for 2 years to buy a ps1, I was 11. so I didn't save up shit lol. but eventually I got there and MGS1 was the first game I bought. I remember how big of a fucking deal MGS2 was with the PS2 launch. the demo was the most insane thing. yeah, that's where that sentence should end. IT WAS CRAZY FAM. all of this to say, well there's MGS3 and MGS4, also 10/10's, no matter, all of this, to say, MGSV is an incredible video game, it's a 10. ridiculous story beats because 5 games of this is ridiculous, mixed with "yo you wanna do that?" "hell yeah you can totally do that" gameplay. chef's kiss

    • @BogusMeatFactory
      @BogusMeatFactory Год назад +1

      Yeah the story is rough but what Kojima story is honestly "good." The game play is unapologetically unique, just letting you PLAY in the world and it easily is my favorite MGS game. It gives you so much agency.

    • @cosmiczeppelin
      @cosmiczeppelin Год назад

      MGSV certainly can be enjoyed by new fans, because the quality of the gameplay is capable of carrying the entire game, but the story only truly works with the context of the other games. I'm a long time fan of the franchise and MGSV is a masterpiece in both gameplay and story in my opinion. Admittedly you can see some minor cracking at the seams, but the fact that MGSV ended up as rich and polished as it did despite the troubled development cycle is a testament to the talent of Kojima Productions.
      The selective criticism about cut content is so strange to me, because it either points to a lack of understanding of game production or to double standards. Virtually every game has cut content. In most cases people are simply unaware of it. Sure the Eli ark is unresolved, but so are many other aspects of the franchise, before and after MGSV. Trying to answer every open question and tie up every narrative thread was never gonna happen in a franchise that spans 50 years of story.
      Taking the main themes of the franchise into account, it's kinda ironic that a meme around the lack of definitive and objective answers to every open question has spread and become the biggest criticism of the final game. Isla's presentation is a good example of groupthink influencing ones worldview. Complaining about an unfinished game, while not having finished the game is a perfect display of a presenting a second hand opinion as your own. Like often with Kojima's games, everything that happens around the game, including pre-release hype, expectations and even the criticism only seems to underline the key points these games are trying to make.
      That's not to say the game can't be criticised. I could probably come up with many more criticisms than most haters do, because I actually paid attention instead of simply parroting other people's criticisms, but when I play Metal Gear, I'm not looking for a perfect game. Perfection is boring and can only be achieved if ambition is scaled back sufficiently and Metal Gear games are nothing if not ambitious.
      I prefer to focus on the things we've got instead of the ones we didn't get. Viewing anything through the latter lense would always end up in disappointment. The selective use of that lense is absolutely fascinating though.

    Metal Gear Solid V, sheesh.
    I would have been right there with Isla... 7 years ago, when it came out. But after years of digesting the game as a fan, 2 full playthroughs, multiple discussions, watching and reading essays analysing MGSV, I managed to get over it.
    More than that, I'm now satisfied with the ending.
    First of all, it's not like there's nothing there at the end. Some of the best stuff happens in Chapter 2, which can be considered post-endgame content. The epidemic, Quiet's last stand, Zero's recordings - there is some good MGS storytelling and atmosphere right there.
    I've read an interview where it was stated that the missing chapter was apparently cut VERY early. It wasn't a last minute decision and Konami's intervention. Moreover, while it might have felt essential, it really wasn't. It had little to do with the main story, the ending, and its themes. It was just connective tissue with MGS1, not offering much more. While this might have been PR talk, looking closer at the existing material makes this interpretation very believable.
    While we can argue all day whether MGSV is finished or not and what does it actually mean to be finished, there is some artistic merit to that ending and the game's structure. It might be an accident, but I believe the weird non-ending WORKS with the themes and the story about a never-ending, pointless war.
    But the worst part about that pick - to me - is that nothing substantial was said. Isla didn't even get to the ending, just heard about it from others - did I get that right? Now that's some bad criticism... Shaming a game for its "unfinished" ending while never experiencing it? It wasn't even properly described, only that it "just stops" and "doesn't have an ending" which is not true - or rather is not that simple.
    Sorry if I'm coming across like I'm trying to be mean, that's not what I'm trying to do - call me passionate ;)
    I get it, believe me, I was there. I'm just disappointed with the lack of substance in that not-so-hot take.
    Love and respect ;)

    Gotta agree with Brad. The first 2 Banjo games were really special. Nuts n’ Bolts had some interesting ideas but didn’t have what most people wanted. Imagine if after waiting years for Kingdom Hearts 3, it was all just gummy ship stuff.

    • @BC-wt6dw
      @BC-wt6dw Год назад +1

      Wrong, and the gummi ship comparison is trash. Nuts & Bolts is a good game, the only problem with it is people expected a traditional platformer for Banjo 3 and it wasn't that. If it were a new IP it would've been praised. Brad sat up there screaming and yelling to chat that they're not allowed to like it because it's shit, meanwhile it's actually a solid game if he was able to just put aside his incoherent immature crying for a second and look past it not being a platformer. There's a lot of great depth to the building aspect of Nuts & Bolts. To call it a garbage game is completely ridiculous.

    I think what AC: Valhalla should have done (aside from being a better Assassin's Creed), would be the streamline the gameplay that is available at launch, just have the best parts of it, a tight "start to finish" 20-ish hour game, and then _after_ you complete it, or _after_ they unlock new stuff, they add in a lot of the "more stuff" options, so if you want to keep playing, you have stuff you can do, but if you just want to have a focused experience, they make it clear what is vital to do first off.

That was one of the most fun games to play I've ever experienced, but the absolute rug pull that takes place partway through the game is so heinous, I did the exact same thing as Isla and stopped playing so it wouldn't further tarnish my experience with it. The fact a studio would ship the game in that form is truly shameful. Like giving someone ice water in the middle of a desert, and then when they were only halfway through drinking it, you slap the glass out of their hand and tell them to drink the rest from the ground. They *should* be ashamed for releasing a game like that, and for their actions that led to it, having demonstrated its own potential and knowingly squandered what they were already capable of doing. and like Isla mentioned and Huber reinforced, that franchise is never coming back. one further iteration in, and it's clear it did not survive and cannot outlive the damage done. it'll never be whole again.

    The way Brad handled the whole situation during his Banjo presentation was actively obnoxious and made me look at him differently honestly. Just very immature telling people in chat to shut up because they said they liked the game. He could've given that presentation without just actively shitting on anyone who likes the game. Dude was straight up yelling and acting like it was the worst game to ever exist. It's a solid game, and it's not nearly as bad as he was trying to proclaim that it was.

      That’s the joke. Brad being a acerbic is his Schtick. Don’t get offended. It’s just games.

    Brad's argument sucks. The game is very well made and at least a novel idea, just not what he and some others wanted. Going by this logic, something like Kirby's Canvas Curse would be considered terrible just because it's not the same as previous entries. Series should be allowed to experiment. Also, strongly disagree with Isla's pick. Gameplay is too good to even consider.

      "just not what he and some others wanted" SOME? 99% of Banjo Kazooie fans didn't want this! Don't abuse a beloved franchise for a quirky idea that has nothing to do with the series, especially not after years of silence. Kirby series shits out more than one game a year on average. Don't like Canvas Curse? Well maybe you'll like the game next year!

      Agreed. I actually was really annoyed by the way Brad handled that whole situation too. People in chat pointing out that it's actually a solid game but it just wasn't the Banjo platformer people wanted and he's telling them to shut up and shit. Just immature nonsense and it rubbed me the wrong way. It's a good game and if it were a different IP then it would've been praised when it came out. It just shouldn't have been a Banjo game.

      Nuts&Bolts is awful. He's right, it killed Banjo.

      @@FakYuhGoogel That doesn't make it a bad game. Most of his argument is that it's not a platformer. He also says the world is empty. If anything Tooie is worse in this regard. I honestly can't believe that anyone wanted another standard platformer from Rare after Tooie and DK64. Both of those games are incredibly tedious, bloated and terribly flawed. Nuts & Bolts is at least unique and you can do some really cool stuff with the vehicle building. Long time fans got a taste of what a Banjo 3 would probably look like with Yooka Laylee. I'd take Nuts & Bolts over that any day of the week. I also don't think Nuts & Bolts killed the franchise. That was likely to happen anyway because of what plans MS had for Rare. If you don't like N&B, that's fine. I think you should have a decent argument if you aren't going to bring games that are clearly terrible like Blood and Damiani's picks though. Don brought actual reasons why SimCity 2013 is a terrible entry in the series. Honestly wish they would just drop Hall of Shame and do another Hall of Greats in it's place.

      Frankly, this entire concept is just going to make certain people mad. Personally I would pick ocarina of time and rip that game a new one. I hate it. And I feel like i could bring a dozen solid reasons as to why, as a Zelda fan size the original. But it would just make people mad. And frankly the better my arguments the more it would anger people who disagree with me.
