When I was little, my mother would tuck me in at night and sing me songs from Tapestry. When I got older, we'd stay up past my bedtime singing them together. This is the first time I've listened to Carole King since my mother passed a few months ago. Thanks for sharing her amazing, moving, meaningful music with people who haven't heard it before.
"It's Too Late" was her breakout hit and Carole King was the first woman to win a Grammy for Album, Pop Female Vocal, Song of the Year.
I think my favorite from Tapestry is Will You Love Me Tomorrow. It is a great album. She was one of my favorite artists from back in my high school days. Thank you for this.
Same here.
One of my earliest memories; early 70's, Corpus Christi Tx. Riding with my aunt Arlene listening to this song on the radio..
Good times...
This is my time, my favorite along with Janis Ian's At Seventeen.
Her voice is absolutely unique - deep, twangy but very thick and rich. Super talented songwriting and composition skills. She’s written pieces arranged for orchestral sized bands. Very, very creative. Obviously Gerry Goffin and her worked together during her early years (Oh Carol, Oh Neil - the Neil Sedaka song and the retort to Neils song - Sedaka dates Carole King in high school and Gerry Goffin and King were married at the time ....
She also worked quite a lot with James Taylor and they’ve produced more than a couple songs together
Anyway I’m sure you knew all that or you can google it if you’re interested in more info if you didn’t
Yup. Genius.
Her Tapestry album is my favorite album ever. Been listening to her since I was 16 and now 67. Saw her and James Taylor live on their Troubador tour. Phenomenal. Love your reactions by the way. I am also a Pentaholic and love your reactions to their stuff. PLEASE get headphones and listen to The Prayer.
The musical play Beautiful is about Carole and her then-husband, Jerry Goffin. A lot of great music, and you get to see how many songs they wrote that were performed by other musicians. I saw Carole live in 1975-ish when I was stationed in Germany, and she dedicated the song "So Far Away" to us American military members.
She is a beautiful amazing person. She's in my top 10 of the best female singers, piano players, performers, etc ... Shes just awesome.
I love Carol!
I love the whole Tapestry album. Over the years I’ve had the vinyl, 8 track, cassette, and cd copies of this album. 😁
As you may have guessed Tapestry came out after her divorce from Gerry Goffin. They got married in 1959 when he was 20 and she 17- and pregnant. They began writing straight away. Their first song was the B side of a Neil Sedaka song in 1959. The Shirelles had sanf their first big bit, Will You Love me Tomorrow in 1960. Carole was 18 years old. The song's lyrics were by Gerry Goffin. Many of their songs concerned teenage heartbreak, romance and uncertainty. Up on the Roof, Make the Night a Little Longer, Keep Your Hands Off my Baby, Is This What I get for Loving You. I Have a playlist here if you want to listen ruclips.net/p/PL8B6783CDF70B756C
Great classic song. Amazing performer.
Carole King is the best ❤️ Absolutely love her...
Yes, you are right it was the most brilliant album ever made. I was 16 when I bought this with my babysitting money. I still and will always know the worlds to every song. The whole album is a MASTERPIECE. Just pick a song. You can’t go wrong. Great job as always...Judy D.
I love this song. I was only 1 when this came out, but as a young boy 3,4,5 years old my mother played her album Tapestry often. She was a great song writer for others long before this came out, something of a prodigy. Nice to see younger people appreciating it.
Tapestry - best album of all time and this is the best song from that album.
It's nice to see younger people watching singers when I was young because I listen to many current artists
Such a strong voice. She's an idol.
She is awesome! So Far Away is one of my top faves of hers. The lyrics and sentiment hits hard.
Love that you’re exploring older music.
If you ever get the chance to see her Broadway show Beautiful (I don't know if it'll come your way or not, I hope so!!), you should definitely see it!!! It's got basically all her best songs in it and it's amazing!! I really appreciate these reactions, thank you for doing this music!
The 70's. Wow, she's great.
You would almost certainly love the work of Eva Cassidy.
I'd love to see you Dive into 'Transatlantic Sessions' from BBC4.
They rounded up the best of roots & folk music from both sides of the pond, stuck em on a Scottish Island, & started the cameras!
The results were astonishing!!
