i lived in kingston, ny, with my family back in 1980's, while working at a computer company, that was much greater than apple at that time. we often went shopping at then newly-built hudson valley mall. 🛒
Born and raised there. Left almost 36 years ago. Kingston for the most part was safe, we walked or rode our bikes every where. Don't remember locking the doors at night either. People living there for the most part where nice and friendly. The spring, summer and fall are beautiful there, the winters where rough. But it's's a small town with small town mentality every one knew your business. Worked at IBM in Kingston, it offered decent pay with excellent benefits - happily Quit in 1986. I use to go back every 5 years or so to visit my parents who are now deceased but my daughter still lives there. I found Kingston boring growing up not much to do there - always had dreams of moving out of there. I was back 3 years ago it looked more run down than I remembered it. I still have childhood friends there that I visit we have fun reminiscing good old days. Would never move back there not much going on compared to where I live now. And my childhood friends are stuck in time 🥰 of days gone by. I have new memories now, Kingston is in the past. My daughter says crime is high, taxes, utilities are outrageous but she loves it there, she loves living in a small town 💜 I'll be back the end of September hoping to catch the fall weather ☺️🌡️
I grew up in Kingston. All my childhood memories, awkward adolescent years and young adult years were all spent in Kingston. If I could go back in time, there are so many things I would do differently. I had the kind of friends that would just drop in on ya, hang-out and drink all your beer. There were also abandoned building and mines to explore. Loneliness and boredom to romance and adventure....and the crazy shit that teenagers do.... I left Kingston 25 years ago when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend.
@@TrvlXLTV I went back to visit for a summer. I dropped by the home of the ex-girlfriend. She basically told me to leave so I did. I made the rounds visiting with old friends, but mostly I met new people to hang with in New Paltz and Woodstock. I attended some cool parties. I was staying at my parents' house in Kingston. My dad didn't like this and he kicked my out after a few weeks. I stayed with an old friend for a couple more week until that got exhausted. Then I camped out near New Paltz. By then it was nearly mid September so I loaded up the motorcycle and headed back to California. That visit was 17 years ago. The next time I visit Kingston I will be considered a complete stranger. I don't believe I have any friends that live there anymore. My old life in Kingston is now a complete loss with a mixture of memories of good and hard times.
@@leocatcruises that's too bad we haven't been here in 5 years before this year and it actually looks a little nicer than before. maybe things will turn around for the better
We really wish visitors and the new residents would not only SLOW DOWN but STOP completely at stop signs. I was hit by a car and a cyclist was fatally hit just a few weeks ago. It pains me to see this driver never stopping at stop signs. Without lights, pedestrians never know when to walk because althought they have the right of way, who dares to step in that crosswalk? Please think about this.
He was my friend Matt's brother. He was on his way home from a job interview on his bike. He lived on coffee st. They were so heartbroken the family that all lived in one house, split up and moved. So sad. Could have been prevented.
If you made a right onto Hurley Ave off Washington then a left on Quarry up to JWB and Edson schools that’s the neighborhood I was raised - grew up in😀

Uptown Kingston was booming when I was growing up there
It’s funny watching someone drive through where you live lol
You live in a pretty cool area! 😎
ik right lol
I lived there 50 years ago and taught at Kingston High. Looks so different.
would you say its better or worse now? granted your still in the area
@@TrvlXLTV I am not in the area any longer. It looks like a typical city that has suffered over time.

It’s horrible homicides
Even killing children on their own porches google it
Horrible place and the politics and corruption they can keep it
Feels like it’s worst the past few years.

Sorry to hear about this, hopefully things turn out for the better
The cyclist was hit at the traffic circle.. There are no stop signs
@@artdriscoll4500OMG! THAT'S RIGHT! TRAFFIC NEEDS TO BE REDONE TO PEDESTRIAN & CYCLIST CENTERED!!
Somejne was hit by a school bus today. 2nd one this week. It's only getting worse. Cops don't care at all.

Sorry i'm italian and maybe i'm moving there. Is it kingston better than rinebeck or the opposite
Hey there, we visit Kingston a lot but not sure if it’s better or worse then Rinebeck, hopefully someone can answer this comment for you
Rhine beck is safer but more expensive.
Rhinebeck is way more expensive and nicer.
i left kingston roughly 10 years ago... looks like it has been destroyed...
I know you're gonna pass by Lucy...she screams at traffic all day. Don't come here.
