Love this channel, would be nice to have a video on recovery on court, and a video on strategy for singles & doubles as well :) thanks for all the video so far, it's food for knowledge. Cheers !
I believe if you’re patient to work on your defense you will definitely improve. I hope you work at it and that you can control your defense even better! 😁🏸
Thank you Coach! As usual, a very neat presentation. Can you please share a detailed video on doubles defense? We see players with wider feet apart while defending in doubles. And also their position. The smash is also very powerful in doubles, which seems more challenging. Thank you in advance.
Many thanks coach, this will really help me in preparation foe a better defence against smashes. I really appreciate the advice on the squat position and a short backswing on returning the smash. I assume when defending in mens doubles everything is similar except the shot going down the centre, which is normally took by the player with the forehand on that side, or the stronger forehand if playing with a left handed partner. Many thanks.
Hi D K! Well in many aspects i feel doubles defense is a bit different as the attacks are faster and more consistent with 2 people there taking turns attacking so even the way you will return them will be a bit different. Don’t worry we will get more specific and have a video on doubles defense... thanks for your support as always!! 😁🏸😁🏸
Hello coach. Your lessons have been so helpful to me. When defending smashes, why is the racket kept low rather than raising the racket up as frequently advised in general
I advise for rackets to be lower in the simple fact that smashes are fast and strong with a trajectory going down so keeping the racket low lessens moving time and you can immediately get to the shot! 😁🏸
Coming soon... ok i’ll let you in on a secret... we just shot the video for it 😉 ... but its gonna come in 2 parts... doubles positioning/rotation & another is doubles strategy... oh i can’t wait to hear some of your friends telling each other see i told you so thats how its done hehe😜😂... 🏸🏸
I'm beginning to realize just how important the footwork is coach Kennie, 😊 your student makes it look effortless here in the video and you can see she does it automatically. How important are the right shoes for springing from the semi squat position?
Thanks Mark! Well, it takes a lot of years of training to make it look easy haha... I am particular with how the sole of the shoes are so it grips well on the surface of the court. 😁🏸
Thank u. Rackets are personal for me i like to grip and hold on to one swing it a bit and its a gut feel which one suits me more but all of your 3 choices are pretty good!😁🏸
Coach, could you make a lesson how to defense a smash and execute good return it that aim chest, head and hip?? It's quite hard to anticipate and execute a good return that aim those points
Coach 8 months before I twisted my knee while practicing multi on overhead smash it was my favorite shot but one day I got acl injury now I want to learn it from beginning so please can u teach me that overhead smash footwork for advanced player and speed reach timing and some deceptive or trick shots so that I can forget the fear of reinjury and can easily continue my my game without any fear I am playing badminton since my childhood and that surgery was really so painful painful
I’m sorry to hear you had acl but these days they are a very common injury. Focus on strengthening it and i’m sure you will be back in shape before you know it. Your request has been noted down. Hopefully we could get to that sooner. Thank you. 🏸😁
Pls bring video on how to dive for returning side line smashes.I saw lee chong wei dive skills on smash return but could not get techniques of dive.will you plz bring session on that .😊😊
Practice a lot of the footwork before you start playing then practice footwork with hitting the shots. Be patient in doing so, its just timing but once you get it, it will yours to keep😁🏸
While serving for both single and double. If the shuttle touches the net while serving .does it considers as the point to the opponent as foul or wrong server ?
How to return the smash that comes to your face or your body? Will you move aside and hit the shuttle as a return to the side smash or is there a way to return it? @
Ideally, we try to keep our rackets in front of us that when the shot is targetted to our bodies we can put out our rackets and take it before it gets really close to the body but that is the ideal way. However, majority of the time we are slightly late and the shuttle comes really close to our body, if you have that quick reaction to move your body a step and hit it, that would be great ... i will note your comment down so i can discuss this issue in one of my videos especially since its easier to demonstrate as opposed to explaining it via messaging. I hope i was able to help😁🏸
Hi keney mam but i have one question how we defense smash when its come on our body u know that its not on right or left but on your body its to difficult for me to swong the shuttle from my body to take a point plz gave me reply
Hi coach, your tips is very useful. My commons problem is to receive/return a flicks service especially in my back hand direction. Please give some advice, thank you.
Will note this down and show u via upcoming videos on how to return them. For now i suggest when you have a hard time with the flick, put up your racket in a good position and anticipate that serve. 😁🏸
If your racket goes over the net while the game is ongoing it will be a fault for you and an automatic point for your opponent. Same goes with touching the net, if your racket or body accidentally touches the net while game is ongoing it will be a fault... that’s if the umpire sees it and calls you for it otherwise if the umpire doesnt see or call it then the game continues...
My returns would mostly be a mid court clear only which would give the other team the chance to smash it again easily, any tips to send it further back and much higher? I'm using a 4U head-heavy racket with BG66 ultimax string on a 25 lbs tension.
Are you standing way back when waiting for defense try getting closer to the mid court or slightly forward and see if that helps. Sometimes we stand to far back for defense and it makes it harder to push it to the back...
omg I think you're right. I just realised I'm usually at the end of the court when defending that's why sometimes I can't reach fast if they drop the shuttle 🤣 I'll surely take note of this on my next games. Thanks coachie! Appreciate it 😊
I don't seem to be able to put my racket where the shuttle is going so that I can hit it back. Mainly if it is coming towards me. I can twist my body so that I hit the shuttle behind me. I have instinctively returned a couple of hard smashes near the floor, but I'd rather be more intentional. I noticed that professional players don't seem to be bothered about getting smashes and that many return with backhand swing from the floor.
Great for you, you are good with those shots, not everyone can return those kinds of shots. The pros make it look so easy and really there are many different styles and approaches on how you want your game or style to be. I’m glad your good with yours... thanks for your comment😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion I mostly have a difficult time when the smash comes very fast. I do not seem to put the racket where the shuttle is going like Momota or Lin Dan would. Your insights about your own game play is good. Not many can analyze their own games. Yes you are right you just need to practice with more games. If you have opponents that can challenge your defense more, play with them more often & sometimes purposely give a high easy to attack shot then practice your defense & anticipation with it... 😁🏸

Every now and then we’d have 1 or 2 good players who’d perform well but support is not enough and not continous for different reasons. That is a bit late & at that time we had to look for our own sponsors to fund our trips... but then again, I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be another Filipino player who can do better bec they are getting funded more now by the association so hopefully its a brighter future for philippine badminton. 😁🏸

Coach,my son Aditya couldn't attempt 'split jump' while playing. That's why he couldn't reach to the shuttle quickly. In defense he face the same problem.please suggest. Thanks.
I suggest he does footwork as much as he can 5-10min before he actually starts playing. When he does certain drills like multi shuttle, ask feeder to slowly speed up the pace, fast enough for him to have a hard time maybe it might shuffle his legs but it will be a good practice... when his footwork is good enough it will be much easier to work on returning shots to his opponents. Not a must to do split jump if he’s not comfortable with it ... 😁🏸
