  • Learn to execute the smash in badminton, also known as the “winning shot” with the intention of ending a rally. But if you don’t execute it correctly, you could be taking a risk and actually be putting yourself at a disadvantage!

    The smash is one of the most powerful badminton shots that is hit from a steep angle. But when you decide to smash, it may cause you to lose a certain degree of balance. When this happens and your opponent is ready to return your shot, your offensive will end up becoming defensive. That’s why you have to minimize your risk by making sure the conditions are perfect for you to execute your smash.

    Many thanks coach. Once again a very informative video, like the slow motion section. I have learnt that one of the criteria is that you need to move quickly into position before executing the smash to have a good chance of success. The jumping smash looks exciting but needs a lot more energy. Many thanks.

    Hi Ms.Asuncion, I liked the way you are explaining the basics. I have started playing the game with my friends and I don't have any previous experience of playing it earlier. I have been trying to play the backhand in the method shown by other coaches but somehow I am unable to send the shuttle even to the middle of my opponent's court. After they place the shuttle to my backhand, they are ready at the net to smash and 9 out of 10 times they end up smashing with ease. Even my daughter laughs when I play the backhand. Please do some detailing on backhand grip, how to hit, from where to generate power and how to relax my wrist while playing the backhand shots.

    • @CoachKennieAsuncion
      @CoachKennieAsuncion  4 года назад +1

      Hi Rahul Kundurpi! Backhand requires alot of practice to strengthen it. Don’t worry we will get to the more detailed backhand shot, in the mean time i will suggest that you use your overhead (still able to see your opponent but hitting it like forhand on the backhand side) or if you need to hit the backhand shot make sure you are close enough to the shuttle and not overstretched plus put out your thumb on the flat surface where you give that extra push. I hope these tips helps ... 🏸🏸

    Hi Coach Kennie, whenever i play doubles or singles, my smash is quite weak at the back court (hits the tip of the net most of the time too) but quite okay at the half court and good at net kill. So most of the time I tend to do drop shot at the back court (which I'm good at especially cross drop shot) or sometimes drive shot. So does every player especially front players need to be good in smash?

      You still can but its also a chance/risk that you take. It’s a case to case basis sometimes its good to take a chance and force it bec that will be an unexpected shot but if your opponent is ready and waiting their return might come back faster ...

    Coach Kennie i have a question. Why my biceps is in pain when i'm smashing it really hurts. What will i do?

    • @CoachKennieAsuncion
      @CoachKennieAsuncion  4 года назад

      How long has it been hurting? Have you tried resting it for a few days? There could be different reasons as why its hurting, you could be gripping too tight, your smash movement could be stiff as opposed to a relax fluid movement... if it only hurts for a few days it could just be sore. Pain shouldn’t stay and should not be over a week. I suggest to see a doctor if pain has been for weeks... take care...

    • @CoachKennieAsuncion
      @CoachKennieAsuncion  4 года назад +1

      It has to be a very conscious effort on your part to practice and do those full smashes. If you have a trainer or coach that watches you let them remind you everytime you play or have someone feed you shuttles to practice the full smash. The half smashes have become a habit but i belive it is workable if you always put your heart and mind into changing that habit! 😁🏸

      We can discuss further on that when we make a follow up on the smash video. There’s so many points to discuss with smash but we had to start with how the movement should be. But with regards to your question, your grip will not change when you are doing the forehand smash unless its a backhand smash then there’s a small adjustment needed to be made ... thanks for your specific question. Beginner's question, when you follow through a smash with your arm swing, how do you keep the shuttle diving down over the net, when i try to smash it always goes under.

    • @CoachKennieAsuncion
      @CoachKennieAsuncion  5 лет назад +1

      I am guessing without seeing u play, you probably bring down your elbow as you smash make sure that even when you smash with ur arm and try to bring down the shuttle, dont pull your elbow down otherwise it goes down the net or goes directly to the net...
