I just thought of a crazy idea for a fire bending technique. You know how fire benders can remove and transfer the temperature of, say lava? And even redirect lightning? What if a fire bender was able to remove ALL the warmth from the human body? Forcing the target into hypothermia, or maybe even freezing them, making people believe it was a new power from a crazy water bender.

It absolutely is, and its a sub element of fire bending that never gets talked about: near the of ATLA episode "the avatar and the firelord" (s3e6) we see Sozin temporarily come to aid Roku in fighting the volcanoes, and the one thing he actually does, is bend the smoke collecting it together and then shooting it away. Iroh, being both a General and member of the royal family, as well as Zuko being a member of the Royal family, they would likely have received better training than all of their guards. Iroh, also has more experience than any of the guards, so it's not surprising they can take them down. They would want to be better trained incase the guards ever turned on them.
I feel like fully mastered smoke bending is rare because of instances like when Ruko tried rescuing his Island, but couldn't withstand the smoke, but Sozin could control the smoke and wasn't at all fazed by the smoke. Ruko was coughing the whole time, while Sozin wasn't. A smoke blast from a volcano hole ultimately lead to Roku's death. Now I'm beginning to think Sozin blasted the smoke out of that hole to injure Roku.
If there are smokebenders and they become not only canon but the technique of smoke manipulation can be taught, I would be greatly impressed and I love to see it. Generated by firebenders to create a literal smokescreen to escape or disguise their next attack but manipulated by airbenders to destroy their advantage.
It’s suspicious that a nation which spent 100 years dominating a world wouldn’t want to overstep with their power in subsequent years of peace and rebuilding after finally being defeated? Seems to me like not engaging in offensive war efforts is the most logical decision for a former imperial force trying to maintain diplomatic peace.

Smoke bending sounds awesome and makes sense. Smoke is heated ash poisoned air and it could be possible to bend. I would love to see this skill in action it could make a firebender overpowered. Having the ability similar to airbending but deadlier. The bender could lift stuff maybe float and do things with smoke and still have the depending to burn stuff plus I could just imagine the brutality of smokebending used on an enemy
The mako and bolin mom theory is kind of cool... what if their mother was the daughter of azula she has her looks IMO maybe the good side too just like zuko. That would mean that avatar roku's bloodline still helped the newest avatar

I hope they do this. Firebenders didn’t get nearly enough love in legend of Korra. Like we got a whole army of new airbenders, and a 2 masters in Tenzin in Genorra. Lava benders and a whole city of metal benders. Expansion on bloodbending, ming hwas unique bending style and a storyline that focused on the tribes politics. For firebending it was like they said “they can still shoot lightning. That scary woman is a combustion bender just like that one guy, isn’t that cool? You want to see what the fire nation looks like now? No? Okay.”
Everyone who thinks smokebending is possible by firebenders or airbenders is wrong. I would argue that smoke consists of 2 things: particulate (ash/soot/carbon) and atmosphere (air). Heat affects the movement of smoke and fire creates it from what it burns, so fire benders can only manipulate the heat moving it. Airbenders on the other hand could only bend the air, so it would be like an airbender bending a cloud without bending the water in it. If earthbenders can bend and compress carbon, that would change the game.
Zuko didn’t have a new obsession with protecting HIS people. The only assassin we see on page in The Promise was upset because she (and everyone in her city) felt like he was just kissing up to the Earth King, and not fulfilling his duty to the Fire Nation or even thinking of his people. He was treating them like they were worthless in an effort to show the world that the Fire Nation changed. His issue was finding a balance. When he got to the colony that girl that tried to kill him was from, he realized that forcing Fire Nation citizens away from their mixed Earth Kingdom families wasn’t right. Katara immediately agreed with him after she saw how intermixed they were. Aang agreed after Katara pointed out that if the 4 Nations have to be separate, she and Aang couldn’t be together either.
Yeah, when the war almost broke out; it's not like Zuko try to conquered Yu Dao, he just opposed the expulsion of Fire Nation citizens from this land as they have live on this land for almost more than a century now. Basically, what happened was this new city instead of returning to the Earth Kingdom was placed under the international law and govern by a representative from the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Air Nation and Earth Kingdom within the United Republic Council, kind of like the United Nation as governing body. But as the people from all three nation move and migrated to this new land for generation, a new society and nation was eventually formed.
I want them to make a season 4 Avatar the legend of Aang that focuses on what happened after the war. There's probably enough content around with the comics and it would be amazing to see more Azula she's such a great villain!
Don't get me wrong, i love avatar the last airbender, but i don't want to see any more of them. Their story is done, and went out on a high note. Otherwise it will end up like halo, and it justs makes their story lose it's impact.

The way i took izimi's distancing from war is similar to modern day Germany. Last i heard, in Germany it's frowned upon at best to talk about world war 2 outside of maybe an educational sense and they don't even raise their national flag to the same extent as how we do in America out of shame.
I really wish the show will acknowledge hybrid bending and acknowledge that the avatar can perform these bending skills: smoke = wind + fire, sand = wind + earth. Mud/ swamp = water + earth. Lightning = fire + ?, etc etc.
swamp bending is water bending. They just bend the water inside the plants. Mud bending is also water bending. You are just keeping the liquid inside the dirt to move it around.

Ive always felt weird about smoke bending, nature bending, and lava etc. i feel like the mixes that create such things should be reserved for the avatar. Lava bending=earth bending+fire bending. Smoke bending= air bending+fire bending. Nature bending= earth bending+water bending etc. that would have made things cooler but it is what it is.
Actually, it would be a really cool idea to have a 'fire civil war' as the third series in the Avatar world, perhaps even with the next avatar after Korra. Just saying.

I'm thinking about the candle trick of relighting it by lighting the smoke. (Something that to me doesn't make any sense but it's so cool that the flame drops and lands on the wick relighting the candle. It's like a fire drop instead of a drop of water. It's so cool. And I just found out about it recently. And it is crazy to think about because I've never been exposed to the idea.)

I really wish the show will acknowledge hybrid bending and acknowledge that the avatar can perform these bending skills: smoke = wind + fire, sand = wind + earth. Mud/ swamp = water + earth. Lightning = fire + ?, etc etc.
sand isnt wind and earth its just earth you should have put earth and fire= glass
swamp bending is water bending. They just bend the water inside the plants. Mud bending is also water bending. You are just keeping the liquid inside the dirt to move it around.
The only one that might actually be a hybrid is lava bending cos bolin is part earth part fire because of his parents and he can bend lava also the avatar can, we dont know ghazanz ancestry so he could potentially have earth and fire genetics

In my own fanfic of Avatarverse I created Shadowbenders, basically the truest equivalent of ninjas to the world of Avatar
Late reply but, I too have made my own Shadowbenders (and Lightbenders). Light and Shadow are meant to be newly discovered Primary Elements. I think they could work in canon (not that I'd expect that to happen).

Ive always felt weird about smoke bending, nature bending, and lava etc. i feel like the mixes that create such things should be reserved for the avatar. Lava bending=earth bending+fire bending. Smoke bending= air bending+fire bending. Nature bending= earth bending+water bending etc. that would have made things cooler but it is what it is.

You don't have to be a fire bender to be the Fire Lord. There have been many fire lords who weren't fire benders Zukos Daughter is one of them

Air benders should be able to sound bend if you think about it and Earthbenders can bend lava. If you think about it more you realize that lava is fire and earth so fire benders should be able to bend lava to.
Air bending really the most op bending and don't need advance bending. Its just that air benders live a monk lifestyle.

Smokebending, Glassbending, Bonebending, Soundbending, Gravitybending, Lightbending, Shadowbending, Timebending, Cloudbending, Sandbending, Energybending, Mudbending
Late reply but, Bonebending wouldn't work. Light and Shadow would really work as Primary Elements. Timebending could only really work for 1 powerful character who might be responsible for protecting the timeline.

I'm thinking about the candle trick of relighting it by lighting the smoke. (Something that to me doesn't make any sense but it's so cool that the flame drops and lands on the wick relighting the candle. It's like a fire drop instead of a drop of water. It's so cool. And I just found out about it recently. And it is crazy to think about because I've never been exposed to the idea.)
