GTF is the member of ITF, the grandmaster(Grandmster Park) who introduced the GTF is one of the General Choi best ex-students. all the qualification of the grandmaster Park GTF is from ITF certificates.
Secondly, when employing a sine wave we have to use the knee spring properly. That is to say bending the knee is what moves our body up and down as we move forward. Using the knee spring while our body is in motion allows our center of mass to travel along a curve, which by definition is another form of acceleration, which then helps us accelerate into a target
As a taekwondo brothership..whether u r WTF or ITF, the most important is we unite together in one name and make taekwondo the best martial art in world
the bounce had a right ame called Sine Wave, Sinewave motion is a movement unique to original Taekwon-do to create maximum force in every moment according to the theory of power. In almost every moment this sinewave is utilized. Sinewave is natural and simple, and often I heard an instructor say: "Simple and natural = beautiful". During class and in seminars Taekwon-do practicioners are being taught to use "sinewave" in their techniques.
The first occurrence of this (Jumping 360 turn from Fixed-Stance, U-Shaped Block to L-Stance, Knifehand Guarding Block) is in Choong-Moo, which is learnt at 1st Kup (Red Belt, Black Stripe) and required for grading to 1st Degree Black Belt. You're certainly correct however, in that that's not the pattern being demonstrated, which is Sam-Il. The think I like most about the video is how synchronised they are as a team. Anyone who's tried this will know how hard that is!
The sine wave is modified so that the body drops as it passes the half way point of the technique, and rises to the maximum height at about the ¾ point and then drops rapidly at the end. The rapid drop at the end of the technique helps accelerate our mass into the target using gravity to our advantage
General Choi Hong-hi left for America and established I.T.F. (International Taekwondo Federation) Taekwondo, as a separate entity, two years later. Demonstrations were given all over the world. It took a while before real progress was made, but eventually, in 1973, the World Taekwondo Federation (W.T.F.) was founded

El Taekwon-Do ITF es el Tradicional Gracias Le Damos Todos Los Practicantes De Este Arte Marcial Al General. Choi Hong Hi por fundar mas que un Arte Marcial Una Forma o Manera De Vida Taekwon-Do ITF POR 100PRE GRACIAS GENERAL
I became a 1st Dan in less than a year in UTI (Unified TaeKwon-Do International). It was only because I've trained before in another style. However, going from 1st to 2nd Dan i had to wait a year, from 2nd to 3rd Dan i had to wait 2 years. I am currently stilla 3rd Dan and I can't test again until 2012 for 4th Dan. My time may get cut by 6 months just because I train under a Grandmaster Instructor and plus I own my own school also. We perform the same katas as ITF just with sine wave.
I love tkd, its more than what you see on these videos. I cant stand people who judge the sport by videos. We dont just kick everything (90%) of the time we do. :) People forget that tkd was created/and is still used to defend a country.
The song is 'god is a girl' by groove coverage, it seems to be a remix of the album version at the start and the techno remix at the part where the self defense stuff starts.
just wanted to add that also sparring rules vary, (in ITF additionaly punches to the face are allowed, and there are no chest protectors), WTF enfasizes combinations of kicks and fighting for points (whereas in ITF ppl try to demage the guy and then gain advance in points). Even the technique of kicks is slightly different.
Breathing helps relax your body. When we do our patterns we realax/breathe then tense up right at the last minute, this causes us not to tire easily and if your match timing is on (breathing the same time you execute a movement) you create more power. Also in combat breathing lets all the air out of your body so if you do take a hit(like to the abdomen) it wont hurt as much.
oh man you got 2 picture of my last club. when he has the two kids's foot in his hand. its in ireland and is the for me the best club there. we got the master of ireland and usually win the trophys from national competition. plus hihi there are 5 champions of the world there :D
In 1962 the Korean Amateur Sports Association acknowledged the Korean Taekwondo Union and in 1965 the name was changed to Korean Taekwondo Association (K.T.A.). General Choi was president of the K.T.A. at that time and was asked to start the I.T.F. as the international branch of the K.T.A. The southern government was overthrown in 1961.
The sound is their breath, breathing out on the moment of impact helps to create maximum power along with other aspects of the movements, i don't know what gave you that idea
yeah it does help for power, but it is also for coordination. in a demo like this you dont necessarily need power, just sharp movements, which dont require yelling, exhaling, or whatever you do. the breathing you talk about is for contact or where a point of contact should be. ie. breaking bricks etc, or sparring.
To correctly apply the sine wave to Taekwon-Do we need to modify the wave shape before we can achieve maximum power. In other words the sine wave is not a uniform curve as shown in the previous figure
I'm an ITF 4th Dan of 24 years training. Have attended seminars with Gen Choi & his son. SherKhanOkay you are confused. Sinewave is, as in maths (google it), the up & down wave movement of the body. It increases power by using gravity finishing the move in downward motion. Breath control is what you hear on each move - it increases power focused at moment of impact. Kihap is a louder shout, though often done at the end of a pattern doesn't merely signify this. It's purpose is as baycobra84 says.
General Choi Hong-hi required the army to train Taekwondo, so the very first Taekwondo students were Korean soldiers. The police and air force had to learn Taekwondo as well. At that time, Taekwondo was merely a Korean version of Shotokan Karate. In 1961 the Korean Taekwondo Union arose from the Soo Bakh Do Association and the Tae Soo Do Association.
There are some key benefits to using sine wave that are linked to the training secrets of Taekwon-Do. Moving our center of mass in the motion of a sine wave requires us to keep our arms and legs bent while the body is in motion. To keep the arms and legs bent during motion we need to be relaxed. Relaxing the body adds speed to a technique because we are not all tensed up with one part of the body working against another. Small increases in speed produces large increases the power of a technique.
Finally, when using sine wave we are dropping our body downwards at the end of the technique with helps us use gravity to our advantage and keep our acceleration building until the point of impact.
What we actually do by performing this sinewave in Taekwon-do techniques is moving the center of our body mass by means of a motion, which would look like a sinus wave if we would draw it.
It depends on the person, not the style. ITF actually allows punches to the face, something that is MUCH more conducive to actual self-defense. Only allowing punching to the body restricts the fighter in an actual combat situation. If they've been taught not to hit the face when free sparring, they instinctively won't after years of conditioning to that rule, and it will inhibit the way they protect themselves.
If people read thru the comments the song names been said loads! Its actually a remix of the Groove Coverage - God is a girl techno remix and the Album version
Very good vid. I am training to compete WTF-style but I love the forms of ITF. The "Self-defense" is highly entertaining but all of the ones in the shown were way too over-the-top for practical application.
Kihap is a form of breathing technique, that lets you exert the energy within your body to a specific point. i.e the point of impact. One of the best fighters in the World (Bruce Lee) and many other great fighters use this technique. if done correctly it makes all the difference and protects the abdomen from injury as well as helping deliver powerful blows and has beens scientifcly proven. i teach this to all my students and i have a black belt in three differennt disciplines
to SuperCrazyDude. Agreed, if you already know TKD, then get boxing as a second style, and the third to be wrestling or jiujitsu or judo. Now you can kick, punch, and grab, how awesome is that.
The Kwans united in 1955 as Tae Soo Do. In the beginning of 1957, the name Taekwondo was adopted by several Korean martial arts masters, for its similarity to the name Tae Kyon.
@Pohjoisennuijamies I think you guys break boards simply because of #3 (it's fun). There are plenty of other ways to harden your fists or other parts of the body or to overcome hurting your fists ... e.g. Thai boxers use palm trees or regular trees with minimal padding (not to scratch the skin) :-)
How much of a sine wave should there be in a Taekwon-Do technique? The displacement that the center of mass moves from the zero line to get to the bottom and top of the sine wave this is called the amplitude. Using too much sine wave defeats a technique because all the body's energy and motion would be dedicated to moving along the sine wave rather than accelerating into the target
Cysterjohn, that why we use punches in sparring too we never inderestimates punchs in tkd. every form in ITF pattern had a realistic meaning for use in self defense not use it for demo only. we also ahd thousand of secret move but what the use ifd the basic pattern u haven power it.. our pattern is learn from basic to complex and must repeat it to show u master and we had theory exam to show that u know the maning and purity of the pattern.
It all depends on what you like. I love taekwondo, but others may not. I'd say: try it out and see if you like it yourself. If you do, great. If you don't, then thats okay too. :D
hello everyone I don't do Tea kwon do. But i do over arts you do the (tssss) noise as you put it, in this art I think it is call a (Kinhup). omg. THIS is REAL tae kwon do. the shit they teach me at my place doesn't help at all. I used to do it, but i quit since i didn't like the way i was taught. well, it was taught poorly to me. but after seeing this video, i seriously wish i was taught like this in the past. im now moving on to krav maga though. great video by the way.
This is the best martial arts video out there, period. REAL breaking and REAL sparring. (none of that "no hitting the head" crap here!) The break at 3:49 is extremely bad-ass, my hats off to the athletes here.
